Red dead redemption 2 vs witcher 3?(other than main story and its character)

edited October 2018 in General Gaming
i know red dead redemption 2 is 2018 game so it surely it will have better graphics animation than witcher 3 so  how is the game when it comes to open world? there is anything good to do ? (like skyrim does) other than main story  or it just like GTA5 where there are few boring side missions so once you completed the main story nothing to do on the empty open world ?

so which one wins witcher 3 or RDR2  when it comes to open world in which there are so many contents and  we will never get bored without doing main story?

The game came out 4/5 days ago, maybe it's too early to decide?

Tricky, Witcher 3 is a multi platform game which RDR2 isn't, not sure that RDR2 even has as much single player content as Witcher 3. Not that it matters all that much, Witcher 3 might be a better game than RDR2, but since they didn't get released at the same time, its hardly a case of one game competing with the other, i think Witcher 3 would have won if that had been the case, honestly, as good as RDR2 is its not a CDPR game, if Cyberpunk had been releasing at the same time as RDR2 then that would have been interesting  ;)

So much hate.  Its hilarious how much your hatred has blinded you that you can't even notice a simple thing like graphics.

As for my wallet well its mine and if I enjoy a hobby I will spend my own money how I see fit. I sure as hell wont come to some random site to get advice from some dude crying over a video game.

Interesting that you should class that as being Hate, nothing he said was negative and pointing out that you had best get your wallet prepared, well the game costs £80, thats a pretty large shock to anyones wallet, i am just hoping that when it eventually releases on PC that it is a more reasonable £50  :/

80 pounds is brutal, why is it so expensive in the UK?

In Canada the game is $80 Canadian or 48 pounds

thats what iam saying  it cost like hell so it got any contents or just 28 hours of main story like gta5 did and nothing to do outside it than some few little side missions?
  • ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,273
Well leaving out main storyline and main character would rather distort any comparison.

Maybe it depends on how engaged you are at finding "outside" content.

For example, someone here recently posted a video of someone hijacking a train and it seemed "hella" fun.

If stuff like that is what you are looking for then it might be worth it. Probably just watch more videos on game play and make your decision there.

I know the Elder Scrolls games are great with outside content and the Witcher 3 had a nice bit to do. I couldn't stand Dragon Age Inquisition.

I paid $80 for the special edition, standard edition is $60 same as the witcher 3 and any other aaa game so I dont see how ozmodans comment had anything to with initial sales.

As far as gameplay I find it more fun exploring in rdr2 but maybe its thethe setting for me

Its a Cowboy Simulator , Its not GTA in the Wildwest . It is more on par with the freedom and deep RPG experience of say Skyrim than the Witcher 3. You dont Play Red Dead Redemption you live in its world. Very immersive experience. My first 4 hours i was claiming RDR2 was the best game of this year now after 10 + hours Im claiming this is one of the best games i have ever played.

To me RDR2 blows Witcher 3 out of the water, not even close. Bountys, eat, cook, hunt, fish, poker, random encounters, TONS of character customization, random events in the world a morality and weight system , your character grows facial hair, Its a life simulator set in the west, Absolutely fantastic game.

There is just to much detail to go into and i wouldn't want to ruin the experience by telling you every facet of the game

What are you talking about?  RDR2 cost the exact same as every other AAA game has for the last TEN years.

You can easily get 100 hours into RDR2 50 if you just follow the story.  $0.50/hr  or even $1/hr of entertainment in 2018 is a hell of a bargin.

If spending $60 on a video game is a "shock to your wallet" video games should be the least of your concern.

I saw a video that said that if you have facial hair and cut it and make yourself "clean cut" you could actually avoid bounty hunters looking for you.

100% this.  This would be 10/10 for me if not for the clunky controls.

Useless topic, so I'll add useless comment...what kind of joke is this? to try compare Witcher 3 and RDR 2? Witcher 3 is just unbeatable by any single player game by FAR! RDR 2 is just very good game, second best after God of War this year but trying to compare it with gem like Witcher 3? I can imagine old folks on this site mostly from US west having crush for RDR 2 but that's understandable :)

IMO Red Dead - all the way.

Witcher 3 has a big downside to me - Geralt is such a bore

Red Dead is a lot more enjoyable to me since there is no Geralt heh

As far as the actual game - Red Dead Redemption 2 completely blows Witcher 3 out of the water in terms of virtual world immersion.

    It's not even close.

My sentiments exactly. Can't think of any other game surpassing Read Dead's virtual world. It is so good that is horrifying!

This is pretty much my feelings-

I loved Witcher 3 but it was a story driven themepark in a zoned open world- RDR2 is a Wild West simulator with a main story and a dynamic and living world the likes of which ive never seen in gaming.

One of the reasons I rank Morrowind as one of my favorite games (and by far the best of the Elder Scrolls) was its ability to help you totally suspend disbelief and 'live' in the world- This is the feeling I get with RDR2 , but as a bonus it has a really good (if a bit cliched) main story.

Ive put some time in with both games- far more with Witcher 3 and all the Xpacs and have completed Witcher. This game has a far better living world, hands down...If its a better game is subjective (It is for me) but nothing has come close to the living world aspect of rdr2 by a mile.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone gone straight to Blackwater to try and figure out what went down there? Or is it "locled" behind the story?

I'm curious, because I hear "open world" and "live in the world", yet I see scripted events and actions undo-able/unavoidable thanks to scripting. You WILL get thrown through the window in the bar fight (in Valentine?). You CAN'T use a Gatling gun in one encounter.

Also, does anyone else in  the camp DO anything without your help?

    - Al

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Yes there are scripted events as part of the main story or while on a mission- The fight you are speaking of is one, the drunken trip to town where you 'lose' your friend (was one of the most hilarious things ive ever seen in a game) is another-  That doesnt negate anything in the 'living world'...Those 2 events especially were more a part of the tutorial as well as each thing you can do in the game (fighting or getting drunk) is exposed to you via scripted missions.

Shoot an NPC but dont kill him- He will have bandages on his wounds when next you see him and sometimes comments about it- Leave a corpse on the ground, it decomposes and attracts scavengers- buildings that are being  will actually progress towards being finished, logging camps deforest areas... Sitting in a saloon, playing cards and seeing the world go by, NPCs talking together etc.

Man, I could go and on- Its so many small details that have never been done before on top of the things we've all come to expect from an open world game.

You can go off the main story or just 'live' in a way that seems very real, in a world that reacts and presents dynamic events.

And yes, the people at your camp do things (just not as much as you) and also donate goods and money to the camp. Play some gambling games with them and while youre playing you can look around and watch what happens in your camp (and hear a ton of banter which add to their (and your) backstory.

I'm a fantasy guy myself when it comes to gaming, Id put Sci-fi second and i guess modern setting 3rd. Westerns are not in my top 3 that's for sure. With that said, when it comes to movies I love Young Guns, Tombstone, Quick & the Dead , Hateful 8 and of course Django. So my advice would be if you enjoyed any of those movies you are going to lose yourself in this game, Its a must play. I know I sound like a fan boy still raving about this game a week later but thats only because I am, its that good.

The game is a mixed bag for me, theres clunky and quirky, I love the quirky.

The combat for me is really clunky, I tried to do free aim but just get frustrated at how bad I am at it with a controller and put aim assist back on. I am not that good with shooters and controllers but I haven't done nearly as bad with Far Cry 5, Wolfenstein, Killzone SF (for as long as I could stomach fpp in these games w/o motion sickness setting in) but even [s]MP3[/s](scratch that I actually finished MP3 on pc but recently got a cheap ps3 version and I still had controller issues), MGV, Uncharted 2 and even this PS3 game I found in a thriftshop - John Woo's Stranglehold have better shooting mechanics. It was the same for me in GTAV and the first RDR too, the shooting mechanics.

movement in camp (only able to walk)

game auto equipping weapons that I dont want to use at mission starts (so I wind up having to open up horse weapons to get the ones I want to use)

No way to sell or drop guns no longer needed or wanted, so they stay in your weapon wheel forever there to have to scroll through if you want to change things up. I had to buy a sniper rifle for a mission, then later on in game I got a rare sniper rifle which both are now in my wheel. I dont really like the shotgun but cant get rid of it and at almost every shooting mission start the game tries to force me to use it by auto equipping it so I have to go back to horse to unequip it. I dont really like my characters look with 2 long guns on my back, dont mind a bow and a rifle but a shotgun and a rifle just look retarded to me.
It would seem like guns in a western setting should be able to be sold just like horses and fenced goods and watches rings etc.

Just a few of my gripes.
