NetEase took some time to speak with Chinese media about its work in partnership with Blizzard Entertainment on Diablo Immortal, a forthcoming mobile-only ARPG. Since the announcement at this year's BlizzCon, reception by the online community has been hellish, but developers are hopeful that additional development details may help ease concerns.

Didn't this mobile game rewrite the lore of Diablo? Pretty sure Tyrael never died at Arreat's Worldstone, he merely threw away his favorite sword? Been a while since I've played default d2, mods are too good.

Also isn't WC3 lore being re-written for reforged? More specifically being rewritten by someone who constantly retcons her own writing in less than a month.

Blizzard has become the king of cinematic trailers I'll give them that, as far as innovative idea's when it comes to gaming not so much .

If this was also coming to console and avoiding the usual "auto-play" and cash shop grabs of most Netease games, it'd be a no brainer to embrace it while we wait for D4. But there's still so much unanswered, and I've heard that Blizz and NE are arguing quite a lot over the monetization. Ultimately, I'd wager Blizzard will win as it's their IP.

Most asian developers just cannot make a game that sticks in the west. Netease should not have been handed this role. Blizzard made a fatal error not developing it in house and it will cost them. Myself and all my friends wont be part of the playerbase when we really could have been.

Something I've learned the last few years of mobile game playing:
Chinese devs want you to play hoping that you'll pay to do so. To that end, they make the games readily accessible.
Western (and Japanese) devs want you to pay to play and usually have more restrictive (and expensive) paywalling.

We'll see where this one ends up.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

So Blizzard makes a game, and its game mechanics... and left to decide monetization near launch?

    Right.

I feel like Blizzard could have done this themselves. If Blizzard were to develop the mobile diablo instead of just giving it to another company it could probably turn out like an actual game instead of an auto playing gatcha fest. I will just play Diablo 3 on my Switch for mobile Diablo unless this somehow turns out okay.

I'm sure they'll make a boatload of money with this trash. It just won't be any of my money lol

Yeah as long as it doesn't have auto-play and the monetization isn't shit, I'll certainly give it a shot because I love Diablo, and mobile Diablo that not me buying yet ANOTHER copy of Diablo 3 for a new platform... sure?

I dont know if I feel more sad for Blizzard's PR department (if there honestly is one given how they've been handling things this year) or western market people actually thinking Diablo Immortal was honestly being marketed to them. Maybe they only had 2 Diablo choices for blizzcon to reveal: Diablo Mobile and Diablo BR. Or maybe Brack is a savior in disguise and wanted to give Activision a big middle finger by making this the only Diablo news and show them the backlash it would cause in the western market (one can dream).

Best Diablo game yet! Won't even have to farm I'll just buy good gear from the shop. They tried this with d3 at launch but buying from other players was less fun.

No, warcraft 3 lore is not being rewritten. They are just updating the maps a bit to suit better gameplay and doing small things, such as make the Culling of Stratholme look more like the dungeon map in WoW. The lore is the same though. They aren't redoing VO or anything.

It's a reskin, or a paint job at its best. Which is sad because Blizzard was always one step ahead in their game development, not following trends.
If true, the game will likely not be as big a hit as Blizzard expects.  If Blizzard isn't doing something different, IP or not, this will just become one of a stupid number of titles that play exactly the same.  The mobile market doesn't care about PC's IPs.

Blizzard is a business, phone games are where the microtransaction cash is. Can't blame them for dipping into that well. It made Kim Kardasshian super rich, why not Blizzard? :P
