This is a PR move. I think Diablo 4 wasn't in the works, maybe Blizzard had plans to start such project in the longer future, but not recently. Now they've realized the huge mistake they did (see stocks) and Diablo 4 has just received a green light.
First of all D3 was not very good, especially after the changes, most of the people left.So do we really want a D4,just more of the same old ,auto generate a cheap map, auto generate the quests and mindlessly spam combat,i for sure don't .
None the less, the WHY,should be obvious, more shows to come, need to save something to warrant people spending 100's to get to the next event. I was never there for D2 hype at that release,i just know this series is way over hyped,it is not very good gaming.
Sadly this type of design seems to be common with Blizzard, more about your players build than anything YOU do as a player,so it is always gear based and hardly ever skill based. The series is fun as a noob, without the OP builds, the first play through of maps, after that ,extremely boring.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I love how other ARPG developers are using this Blizz fuck up to hype up their own games.
I'm personally hoping that promising in-development ARPGs step up to the plate. Wolcen and Last Epoch in particular look awesome, both graphically and mechanically.
Warcraft 3 Reforged is a dream come true to actual blizzard fans. Diablo 2 remaster would have been welcome as well. At least they gave us one of them.
I am calling BS, two weeks before Blizzcon it was lower your expectations. Now hey Diablo 4 was a last minute pull from the show. This screams damage control. I think they have games in development I just think they never had plans to show it this year.
I'm so glad that the whole thing wasn't just down right greed....its just incompetence (cause that's how this announcement makes Blizzard look). Its not like they didn't know Blizzcon was this year, and they said publicly back in August that >>> MULTIPLE <<< Diablo projects were in the works, yet they couldn't have SOMETHING ready other than Diablo Mobile? I don't mean like live footage, but people would've settled for concept art. You mean to tell me Blizzard, that you couldn't get even concept art ready? Yeah, incompetence....

Two weeks is last minute actually. I heard the idea for the first time at MrLlamaSC's post conference stream two days ago. He noted that they didn't really seem to know much about Diablo Immortal and could not really answer simple questions about the game during the Q&A. He suggested that this was about to be the side announcement but something crapped up big time two weeks before Blizzcon and they missed a deadline with the main announcement they were going to make so the announcement of the small side project became the main event and they basically tried to manage expectations with that blog post then.

I hope Chaosbane turns out decent. They posted this on their twitter.

They should have said something. Maybe people wouldn't of been that mad with them that it was only a mobile game announcement.
Part of the problem is with certain players.
example: They make the announcement. However, after much development and testing they decide they want to go another way. Except, at this point, several years have passed. The players then rush to the forums that "it's too little too late" and "they had their chance" and "Doesn't matter, I'm over it and moving on to other games" and all sorts of player drama.
Game companies should only ever announce things when they are ready.
If fear of negative feedback is that paralyzing for Blizzard, they wouldn't have made the Immortal announcement in the first place.
I think the announcement for more for investors or perhaps the overseas market where they will probably make a killing. Thought it was odd though to announce it when they did, knowing it wasn't what diablo fans were waiting to hear.

After the backlash, they got that deer in the headlights feeling and just wanted to go home.
Sounds like they expected the crowd of mostly PC users to applaud being able to play on mobile, then be shocked and awed over just hearing that D4 was in the works. They ain't Apple.

For all those who think Blizzard really, truly did mean to announce D4 up until the last minute, I have two words for you:
Project Titan
I wondered about that as well. Maybe they are working on one, but aren't fully committed and didn't want to say anything since it could be scrapped for whatever reason.

If this is true, whoever decided to pull that announcement from the schedule is an idiot and why the hell wouldn't they just announce it now to calm fans having realized how bad a decision it was to NOT announce it at Blizzcon? They should have opened with that announcement .... good lord ....
It appears that they have the same people handling PR with the playerbase for Diablo IV as they do handling World of Warcraft BFA!
They should fire that person and send that person over to Arenanet where they handle Guild Wars 2 since they seem to have the same lack of brain cells as Arenanet does, and hire someone from Bethesda Softworks who handles the Elder Scrolls Online since they seem to have this S**t together over at Bethesda!

I love this comment from the tweet. They're a fellow Inquisitor.
Thank god for that, mobile games are for chaos heretics! Diablo Immortal has been tainted by chaos and needs purging!
Ive been following Chaosbane closely since they announced , ive been wanting a Warhammer ARPG not in 40k for years .. And really glad its finally getting attention .. Also there are rumors to a Warhammer Quest 2 in the works .. Which i would love. I played Warhammer quest the board game and the PC version for hundreds of hours...
