Trove players can relax now that Gamigo, the new owner of the Trove IP, has gone on record saying that the development of the game will continue, though it will be with a smaller dev team than before. According to the letter from the new team, having a smaller dev group will "give us the opportunity to create a more agile development structure and that "by moving away from a massive, monolithic plan" for each update, they allow the team to focus on exciting features.

Small and Agile

Yeah, Otherland and Dragon's Prophet aka Savage Hunt are really good examples. SH was supposed to be entirely remastered but nope they just simplified game to make it way much more casual so it became boring. Otherland was big mess and looking at gameplay videos it still is.
Trove had a small Dev team end of closed beta going into launch and the team grew after the game gained some success. During all of this they released on console and slapped the PC players in the face by making us wait for the consoles to catch up on content which caused a lot of PC players to walk away.
The real issue was when Andrew (Avarem) left as lead and was replaced with a lead that had no idea how to produce this game and talked to the player base like we were all 3 yr old children when we asked why something was going on. The direction the game went was more mobile game like than anything else and was nothing more than a time-gated mastery sink (the games measure of success for players). In which they added a lot of overpriced packs to the store that had no guarantee of even getting the rare mastery items. Store packs are fine if it's something a players wants to buy, not so much when it's a have to buy to advance. EDIT: We used to get small updates on a weekly basis early in the games life cycle and it may be better to get back to that. It's a wait and see game atm.
I see Rift carrying on.
Unlike AA Rift was developed by Trion - and so going forward is a wholly owned IP of Gamigo. So everything it makes will go to Gamigo; unlike AA which will have had to pay some amount for the IP. Cheaper to run therefore. And Rift is an "expansive" game, had lots of development historically.
And going forward the "overhead" associated with the game will be less - as a result of only taking on a small number of Trion's staff.
I could be wrong but I would expect them to be able to run it "at a profit". Its what they have proven to be pretty good at.
Marvel Heroes could be tricky. Whilst Trion owned the game they didn't own the IP. So if the IP rights were terminated or have lapsed and simply not been renewed then a new deal would have to be agreed, money paid and so forth. And then there would be the cost of a relaunch.
However I do agree that they might well do so - just the cost dynamics are not as positive.
People enjoy what they like even if other don't like the graphics.

No good will come of this.. but we shall see.
did the accept they reached everything they could with that engine, and wanna start on something new? or were the out of money? and did they sell any other IPs?
just curious
and for the gamigo part (you actually pronounce it ga-mi-go), they are a medium german publisher with a medium game portfolio.
alot of browser games, even more cash shop games, but that shouldn't be anything to worry trove players i guess. that game always was heavily cash shop focused (after all, you gotta make some money, right?)

I think Rift is in the 50/50 category. It could go either way very easily. My guess is that it will continue, but if it doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised. It's been past its shelf life for some time now. I don't think it was ever able to recapture the enthusiasm it had when if first came on scene.

so say we all
In my opinion as someone who has played both, Rift is a better MMO if for no other reason than the fact they created casual grouping game play with their zone rift attacks. That's the kind of game play that makes MMOs feel like MMOs instead of single player games with others around you.
