I'm really, really underwhelmed by this- tried to play this again and just couldnt do it.
Maybe its me or maybe ive been spoiled by a Steam library filled with excellent survival games but this just feels sub par to whats already out there (many done by indie companies) and its only saving grace seems to be the fallout IP.
The problem is, there are so many survival games that are far better than this (or at least thats my impression since I only have maybe 15 hours into 76) that I cannot believe this is a bethesda game, a company I used to rank as among the best.
I was really looking forward to this game as well and thus far its been a huge letdown. What they describe the game as is very misleading. Its certainly not what I expected and again another game with potential that fails to live up to the hype.
They didn't increase the stash amount.. hell at this point I'd pay 20 bucks for them to triple my stash size.
....
There it is. The line-up for future cash shop "convenience items" has started. There's a reason why it's called "inconvenience by design." Aren't games as a service fun?
Well, they mentioned in beta that they will be increasing the stash amount, I though that meant that it would be done by the time the game launched... it didn't happen. They might let people buy things later, like card packs, or size increases...
But... somehow that doesn't make sense to me. Where card packs are concerned, you can't slot a card unless you have enough points in that special attribute.. so... even if I got 10 card packs right now, I wouldn't be able to use most of them unless I liked the card in the pack better than what I've already chosen.
Stash increases may be in the future, but they already said they'd increase them, at least some, without having to pay for it... but if thats only like.. 50 lbs or something... then yeah, that isn't going to do it for me.
I do wonder what their plan is... are they going to have a cash shop eventually? Or is it just going to be DLC or what?
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade and good for you guys that are enjoying yourselves. I've just had a lot of experience over the past 4 years with how Bethesda's sister company, ZOS, goes about creating inconvenience and pressure points deliberately to monetize and it has made me a bit cynical about their approach to MTs.
Not that it's anything new - F2P games have been doing this for eons and some are outrageous with things like 24 hr delays that you can wallet your way around for instant relief. But B2P games doing it is still recent enough that it annoys the shit out of me whenever I see obvious game deficiencies that don't get fixed at the base level but are monetized instead.
Hope for your sake that I'm wrong and you'll get adequate stash size increases at the base game level. But I just couldn't pass up you saying that you're willing to throw $20 at it for an adequate stash size. That's just what they want to hear

played yesterday first time game 1 hour... refund. Its so bad. UI/controls are horrible! lagging/disconnection,bugs, no good graphics choices... tis is NOT fallout u want play. game need heavy modding and its dont support mods.
u may want buy game when its 20€ or free to play...
Poor optimization. Bad gunplay without VATs to make it work. Bad UI. Buggy. Will be hacker filled. Shallow. No Story. Ugly. Bad PvP implementation. No reasonable graphic options on PC. Capped FPS.
my friend is playing it on console (he is more a console gamer than a PC gamer, though he plays games on both) and he says he likes it about as much as fallout 4. He thought it be pvp dominated (both me and him hate pvp after our rust+dayz experiences) and full of trolls and rude people. But he said everyone is really nice and even RP as merchants to trade with others. I guess he said someone or multiple people set up a player city, but I dunno what he meant by that but guess you can make player cities in the game? I guess make the camps close enough that they kinda combine? But I didn't actually ask more about that.
I myself don't have it (at least yet, I bought AC Odyssey so no money for more games this month), so take his opinion as you well. Seems others have the exact opposite experience my friend has had so far. But usually when he enjoys a game, I like it just as much as we have literally 99% similar taste in a lot of things
My Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starbound and WoW + other game mods at MODDB:
Coming in with extremely low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised.
If you are someone who enjoys exploring environments freely in RPGs, as opposed to following the main storyline, this game still delivers that. Cooperation is seamless and quite fun. The world is decent and not as boring as I've read - there are nice locations to visit. You are encouraged to take screenshots and get memorabilia frames/effects from the points of interest you visit.
A few of my gripes:
Cooperation is not strongly encouraged. Most people join up for a public quest here and there, but there is no strong incentive to join strangers for an extended period of time. There are incentives to play as a group. There is not much of an incentive to find a stranger and stick with them for an hour or two.
There is a cosmetic shop. What's more, the SPECIAL (skills) progression is linked to collectible skill cards. For now, these are awarded on each level and in bulk on level milestones. But it does seem very obvious where this is heading. There may be new skill perks released not far from now, requiring a grind or a booster pack purchase.
The lack of NPCs. It is not completely terrible and I somewhat got used to it. The world seems a lot less lively without human NPCs around though. You do have robots acting as NPC traders, so it must be a design choice. It is a fairly strange one though.
Fallout 76 is a MO(not MMO)RPG themepark. It has some survival aspects tacked on for color (they dont change the gameplay) as well as some commonly requested features such as housing. The game is fun, and generally provides enough content for 80-120 hours of gameplay. The addition of Multiplayer Online aspects might extend that a bit, but dont drastically change the type of game, or value. It is not unreasonable to see additional content added in the future that will bring players back.
If you look at the game for what it is (rather than what it is not) it seems like a reasonable game, that is generally fun for most people. Hardcore players will burn through the content, get bored, then complain and leave. Players moving at a slower pace will last longer. Truly dedicated players will make the most of this game, and play it for quite a while.
Once the numbers drop to just the dedicated players (and those picking it for the first time), they can add private servers, mod support, etc to help extend the lifespan of this game. They will also have periodic content updates that will have people jumping back in to experience the content, then logging off again once they are done.
Bottom line is that this is pretty much like most online games. Their timing is pretty good, as people will not have exhausted the game by Christmas (so it is still a good gift), but don't expect it to be on people minds come next summer.
Then again the group that set off the nuke included the player who broke the nuclear code deciphering. That player has created an application that brute forces through the deciphering of the codes.

Umm removing all NPCs and thus removing "meaningful choices" that change how the game plays - is a bit more than slight departure from previous Fallout games.
IMO - they ripped the heart out Fallout and left a shambling husk.
Agreed. Fallout 76 isn't even in the same genre anymore. It isn't an RPG. Choices define RPG's. This is just another survival game.
What??? I thought it was the sandbox mmo we had all been waiting for?

Fallout 76, the game has so many problems right now, its getting review bombed just about everywhere, its so bad that even the console players are in a rage about it, its really not looking good, its actually getting so bad that Bethesda are having to defend their use of the game engine, though they have effectively shot themselves in the foot when they said they would be using the engine again in Skyline and Elder Scrolls 6. Fallout 76 is even being compared to NoMans Sky and not in a favourable way, time to stock up on the popcorn because it looks like 'things are getting a bit real' for Bethesda!
