Red Dead Redemption 2 is awesome from everything I have read and I am waiting for it to come to the PC . Fallout 76 from everything I'm reading looks like its no match to RDR 2 and would be a waste of money.
Are you indeed trying to compare these two games ?
Let's see.. one is a multiplayer based game which when played alone you are tossed into a barren world with almost no npc's to interact with and a shallow story presented via audio tapes you find while roaming the empty world. This is paired with dated graphics and a number of glitches and bugs.
The other is a fully fledged experience with an extremely detailed and wast world, a meaty and excellent presented story, memorable characters and solid gunfight & gameplay mechanics.
RDR2 is just downright amazing- Its just an incredible experience as opposed to just being a game.
You will get one of the best single player experiences of this generation and imho one of the best games ever made- Plus you'll have access to the online portion which has potential to be something special. Even if the online portion ends up being a cash grab the single player portion is worth far more than the price of admission and online is just icing on the already amazing cake.
I dont hate FO 76- It was one of those games I pre-ordered and messed around in the beta but its not a very solid title. Ive found myself not being able to pull myself away from RDR2 to even try 76 since the first beta. I hope sincerly it turns out to be great but right now its just- Not.
-Id also say that even if 76 was great right now, I'd choose RDR2 because- Damn. Its just really that good.
@OP RDR2 is single player and F76 is only worth it if you really really want to play multiplayer in Fallout universe. Ohterwise I would suggest playing Fallout 4 instead.
So, if it's for multiplayer go for F76. Singleplayer go for RDR2 or Fallout 4.
Anyway, a strange selection on your side to choose from as those games really have nothing in common.

Nah, sometimes you enjoy both styles of game and can only budget one title so you just look for the better game (in comparison to its respected genre)
However, I'd say RDR2 online looks like it could be better online/multiplayer game than FO76- We dont know much outside of speculation and a few things Rockstar has said but with a continuing story, property ownership, camp upgrades , posses and the sandbox-ish world to play around it, I believe its going to far surpass FO76 even with its online portion alone.
note- I'm know I come across as a fanboy on anything regarding this game and I'm okay with that . I havnt fanboyed about a game since Morrowind. I'm allowed to fanboy every now and again.

Multiplayer is coming to RDR2 and you can be very sure that it will be far better implemented than FO76 is, though i do have concerns about how badly the cash shop is, that is also a concern with FO76.

I honestly imagine the cash shop is going to be on par with how bad things have gotten in general- Rockstar claims it will be cheaper than GTA Online but that still leaves a ton of room to still be in 'rip off' territory.
BUT-
No matter how bad it is, the single player experience is incredible and worth every penny and the online portion is just a bonus. If I really enjoy it though, I wouldnt feel ripped off spending a hundred or so dollars a year mainly because I would be viewing it as a sort of F2P hybrid.
I've more than gotten every pennies worth from the game and still have a ton of stuff left to do- I dont think there will be a really high level of replayability once you've done it all but I view the online as a sort of free DLC where even if it is terrible or the prices are insane- It doesnt diminish the game for me or its value in what ive already received.
76 is different in that theres only that one mode and the cash shop could really be a dealbreaker depending on how its all handled considering I'm $60 dollars or so in and the cash shop affects the entire game and experience..
FO76 is such a letdown, underwhelming PvE and underwhelming PvP... have no clue who the target audience was for this shell of a Fallout game
I guess you never had to endure a sudden horrible toothache while vacationing in a remote island. The things I was willing to trade for a root canal......

It really depends on you OP. RDR2 which i own, play & love is a Cowboy simulator not your typical GTA set in the wild west rockstar game, Know that going in.
Fallout 76 which I dont own, never played but have watched streamed is a Open world Multi player survival game set in the fallout universe.
With that said, the only way i could possibly recommend FO76 over RDR2 would be if you are a HUGE Fallout fan , otherwise in any other scenario it would have to be RDR2. Keep in mind RDR2 is getting multiplayer very soon so if Multiplayer/online is a big factor in your decision its just one more reason to go with the Cowboy simulator.
Don't you guys think that this game is over rated or Over hyped?
Not in the least, but I suppose much of that depends on your own perspective.
To be completely honest I expected RDR2 to be really good but not even close to the masterpiece I believe it to be- Hence to me it was under hyped.
I think as far as it being over rated, again thats totally subjective. Many of the complaints I hear from people are totally legit but those same complaints are things I enjoy. For instance, the slow pace of the game and the time it takes to really do things are positives to me but someone wanting a non stop action GTA style game is going to be disappointed if thats what they had expected.
To me, this game is solid 9/10 and the only way it could have been better would have been if it had been set up with more re-playability in mind...As it stands I dont really see any reason you would replay this once you have completed it (to see a different ending among 4 possible endings probably isnt going to be enough) but that being said , you're looking at a 60 hour experience and if you do all the side activities, you're probably far past 100 hours (I havnt completed all the side activities and I'm sitting at around 75 hours)
edit- I'm also still playing since I plan to complete everything or at least attempt to until RDR Online drops and I hopefully just end up playing that as my main game.
This game isnt going to be for everyone- Obviously someone wanting non stop action is going to find this game over-rated. Its a slow build.

Call me a romantic, but nothing beats riding around a Godforsaken wilderness on an unruly mule before galloping into town in a cloud of tumbleweed and blowing some local hoodlums away.
But hey, that's my day job.
Likely I'd opt for Red Dead. could be a great excuse to learn to play the banjo.

For people actually interested in FO76, give it at least another 6 months. The game is in early beta level of polish.
Remember NoMansSky at launch, that was better than FO76, the best you can realistically hope for is that in a years time FO76 is less 'buggy' but seeing as one of the main issues with FO76 is also the game engine the game was built using, i suspect that unlike NMS things are not really going to get any better. My only recommendation, which i am only really echoing others who have done far more in depth reviews of the game, is FO76, don't buy it.

Fallout 76 is a decent game, but Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent game.

Wouldnt even play it if it was free and included everything in the cash shop.
