What's the deal with this game?

in Fallout 76
I've heard basically nothing about this game, and didn't even realize it's releasing on the 14th. What's the deal with the beta impressions? Cash grab? Or does it have actual substance? What games does it compare to?
When all is said and done, more is always said than done.

    Its a online survival lite game with a Fallout skin. Think Conan Exiles, Rust, ARK ect ect... But not as complex. Basically its Fallout 4 CO-OP minus alot of stuff, thats my take at least. Its not a crash grab and as far as substance it looks like you kinda make your own fun.

    On a related note my game "box" came in from Amazon today which contains a key code only so no big deal.

    But I also got my hardbound Prima guide which looks pretty sweet, probably much better than the game will turn out to be.

    Looks like it will be the last one as well since Prima announced recently they are closing their doors in a few months.

    watched 2 hours of twitch and confirm it is a horrible cash grab game...

    My friend likes fallout 76 about as much as Fallout 4. And he said at least on the consoles, everyone is friendly and people RP as merchants. Hasn't been killed or attacked by anyone.

    Take that as you well, cause some people have the opposite experience from what I read. I myself don't have FO 76 yet, since I bought AC Odyssey this month.

    Not really surprising. Most Prima guides, even for singleplayer games, are outdated even at release due to launch day patches, day one dlc, etc. Add in the fact that Google is free, and there's really just no justification for them anymore.
    Yeah,  but they are so big and colorful, with maps and stuff.

    It's the end of an era.

    Prima and strategy guides in general are awesome. I like them for the art inside, and the maps (like you mentioned). I got a Dark Souls III one recently for 1 penny at bestbuy in an error, and it is really cool. I'm sure there will still be some company making them, just not as widely as prima was.
