I've never played a lot of games. What I mean is I've never been a variety gamer, at least not since Blockbuster was cool. (Pours libations for the smell of a Blockbuster that happened to have a Pizza place next door.) While I don't play a variety of games, the ones I do play I adore. I don't just adore them, I crawl into them like Tom Hanks in Castaway and let them live in my head - rent free.

Great article Tim i agree on so many points. I'm also limited with playtime and only 16 or so % through the story but most of that is due to just stopping and appreciating the little things. Every time I play there is always multiple stop and look at this running creek moments, Or whats that person up to in the middle of the woods at his makeshift camp, I find myself doing things in this game that I would normally skip over in others. It just doesn't play like previous Rockstar games , They have taken their own formula to another level. It's a Cowboy sim at heart.

The level of immersion RDR2 has achieved with this game is outstanding and like nothing i have played before. Watching videos or hearing people talk about the game really doesn't do it justice. It's a masterpiece.

I am really struggling with the slow... I get distracted too easily I guess... and next thing I've shut it down and moved onto something else... don't even think I am passed the tutorial yet.

Can these guys be responsible for an open world fantasy/sci-fi game too? Pretty please?

Very well written. I have been holding off, but I think it might be time to get either the PS4 Pro or the XboxOne. Any recommendations

The game has some nice scenery, some nice ideas...roleplay going on,some cool scenes.

One thing i don't care for at all and ruins all the good it is doing with immersion and that is Bullet time.Other than that,it does a decent job with the western appeal,i am just not into six shooters/rifles anymore.
Also worn out from the walking through the bush/terrain,been there done that too many times.
My appeal would be if i could roleplay a way to take over a town and become the sheriff.

Now all we need is a good PC port and it might even make GotY. ;)

I broke down and bought it for my PS4 pro. The lure of lounging in my recliner and watching on my big tv was too much.
I can overlook joystick aiming... mostly. Thank god for quick-aim.

    The game is amazing.

Argh. . same spot. . xbox 1s. . soo cheap but this game runs at horrible res on it.
    PS4 Pro. . what I had planned. . then
Gamepass!. . awesome. . but the Xbox One X (4K for this game) is so pricey.

Must. Hold. Out. for PC version.

    This game...

This game is an 'experience' more than it is a mere game- Its beyond just 'good' or 'great' or even 'excellent'- Its art, it moves you and the illusion of being a part of a living and breathing world has never been crafted so masterfully as its been done here. Not even close.

Theres so much I would like to say about this game- It has some flaws (as everything does) but its a masterpiece and the greatest game (or interactive experience) of the last decade or two. Its not the most "fun" game of that time period but thats a whole separate discussion.

Ive now completed almost everything there is to do- As the story began to play out and I knew the ending was coming I literally felt sadness that these NPCs that I have gotten to 'know', have a connection with and feel strongly for (in one way or another) would no longer be a part of my life- That the game will end... That I would miss these "people"- Something ive never really had in a game before. I might miss my character or the game but not the actual NPCs lol

Playing Red dead has been one hell of a ride- Its among the best games ive ever played and its a gamechanger. This has 'ruined' me in many ways as I am going to expect this from an open world from now on and will probably be very disappointed in otherwise good games.

I know this game wont be for everyone- But for those who can handle a slow, methodical game and can really sit down and get involved in it- You will feel the same by the end. For a certain type of gamer this is the holy grail (or as close as weve ever gotten with current tech)

Good review and I hope you review it again once youre finished and we can all have a spoiler filled discussion because damn- Theres alot I would love to talk about and its hard to do without ruining someone elses enjoyment- because even talking about a simple  'side quest' and characters you meet in them often end up with evolving and impactful stories and things thats just...fucking incredible...But hard to discuss.
