I can only give you my personal view on things, based on experience in many different space games (a lot of them multiplayer):
Any differences at the beginning in what ships players own become negligible after a few weeks or months, when many players become in-game-money billionaires and trillionaires by gambling the in-game-mechanics-system (especially in trading, manufacturing and mining).

There has never been such a blatant pay to win (advance) system ever implemented in any project before.
But discussing how it will effect a game (if its ever released) is way down the road. Cart before the horse basically. There are so many other things that need to be addressed concerning getting this thing released in a fully playable state before even discussing all the imbalances that are sure to exist (if it ever does get that far).
Thats another thing people dont get. When you can BUY everything it tends to shorten the lifespan or at least attention span for any game. Games are or at least used to be about accomplishments and/or goals. When those are all instant gratifications with a credit card it sort of diminishes everything as a whole.
So even if this thing does release and even if it is somewhat playable its life span is extremely shortened. As in a few months for most people at most. Just like every other over hyped MMO that came oujt during the golden age. Where peopel flocked to it because it was new and different, although by the time this things comes out (if it does) it will have a decade of exposure so not really 'new'. But people will go to it because it will be a 'release' version. They will be struck with the reality of it all. Just like all these (paid) streamers were this past week.
"Regular'' people will be ganked and farmed and camped at every station there is. They will be greifed and harassed and exploited. Most (all) will quit long before they ever have a chance to earn anywhere near the amount necessary to survive against let alone compete with the wallet warriors. And once they quit the wallet warriors will be left with nothing to do. Why earn in game money when you bought everything with real world money? Most of these guys will have been playing some aspect of the tech demo for as long as it will have existed so they will be bored of most aspects of it by them as well. Only thing they had to look forward to was 'release' and dominating 'noobs' (guys who didnt spend any money).
Its like every other game (except it isnt a game yet) where they offer pay to win items and people lose their minds. But with this mess its been going on so long people dont even care. Mostly because most people dont think it will ever release. Or if it does theyre not going to play it anyway. But look at how Zenimax was crucified over their Imperial Edition (not even pay to win), or how CoE has been getting raked over the coals because theyre now trying to emulate the Chris Roberts method.
Thats just common sense and any argument against it is disingenuous, but then again you dont practice anything but blind fanboyism for this mess so I dont expect you to admit it.
But like I said those issues are way way way down the road. But IF it ever does get released these things will be the post mortum topics to be sure.
But it has created a new concept. Used to be every game wanted to be a WoW clone, now every project wants to be a Star Citizen clone. Which is basically sell anything and everything you can think of but never implement it into the test bed, but release enough generic and fundamental game mechanics to make it look like youre still actually developing something.
Ah, i see Mr. "The Moon Landing is FAKE" Rodarin is still on his fake movie crusade ... 3 years in.
On the topic of the thread .... with almost 210 M$ reached I personally think this will be the most successful year of Star Citizen crowdfunding ever.
Detractors keep saying a lot of things ... but the backers obviously think different ... and keep giving .. and many more new backers keep joining. Number of "Star Citizens": almost 2.2 million (of which 800.000 are paying backers in my personal guestestimate)
Have fun
Minus the money lost if they allowed refunds. Good thing for CIG, they stopped that real quick.
Minus the money lost if they allowed refunds. Good thing for CIG, they stopped that real quick.
I think things as community subscriptions (and merch too I think) not counting towards the crowdfunding total, that makes it so the total of money funded is higher than 210 million, with extra sources of income it'll never be a minus from the pledged amount on any realistic scenario.
Still completely focusing on the money (allegedly) raised. Test bed still buggy as hell with glitches and crashes galore. Better than most recent 'updates', but thats all relative I suppose.
Even the guys who were getting paid to stream it (not the long standing ones but the most recent sell outs) have stopped going in. More than likely BECAUSE it was exposing the issues this thing still has.
At some point it was said by CIG that refunds were some 0.6 % .... cannot find the exact quote link anymore. It was from early 2016ish.
Have fun
Cause everything CIG says must be taken as gospel right? They couldn’t possibly be making up low numbers to avoid a potential panic right? Not like they have ever given people a reason to mistrust their word lol
This guy is a supporter but talks about the positives and the negatives.
That's not a supporter, that's a whining crybaby who spent 10k without even understanding what he was getting into lol
He bought some capital ship using a glitch in the website and when CIG removed it from him became salty and went on a "I quit ,Star CItizen is bad" only to little later come back with the tail between is legs and going "well Star Citizen is not so bad after all I'll continue to pledge and play the heck out of it" lol
I haven't watched the video, but are the points in it valid? What he bought or lost isn't really relevant I don't think unless the topic of the video.

November 2018 clocked in a 7.971.821 $ ... just shy of 8 million...
If you take the right 30 day period in Nov/Dec 2018 (8th Nov to 7th Dec) you get 10.53 M$ in a one month period.
Have fun
So you are saying they barely covered their operating costs for that 30 day period? Staffing at their present size for two whole years will cost them around 100 million or so.
Maybe they'll eventually get the elevators to run on time too....
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Cant say man as I didn't watched it either!
The little I've known about this character showed that he's just another one of those loving guys with more money than sense who ended up burning himself down by passionately following something he still doesn't fully understand and eventually decided that venting it's frustrations on youtube could make him some bucks, maybe he's trying to buy that idris he loved so much lol

He may have been a bit starry-eyed in the beginning (like most SC backers), but it's funny both you and @Erillion have been exhibiting the exact behavior he uses to conclude Star Citizen is a "cult" (attacking or discrediting his personality because you dislike what he has to say).
Erillion calls him "unstable" somewhere, but in the video he seems quite rational other than the part where he claims to have handed Chris Roberts TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. If that's all you are judging by, however, then there are quite a few unstable people in SC's community.

It was @MaxBacon who made the instability comment, back around page 3. You guys all look alike to the rest of us you know.
“Meh all things aside there's way better sources then FTR, he literally went full dark side then has some moments of calm and quiet, but very very very unstable nature. On discussions I've seen between him and backers I gotta say the exchanges between the fans vs haters vs skeptics here are more middle-grounded and calm. FTR sadly seems to be still covering SC out of spite to a group of backers and a love-hate relationship with SC.”

Yeah that "cult" thing has been another desperate attempt of smart and it's ilk to get back at the Star CitizeN community for kicking their rear ends back to goonland lol
Year in year out they desperately try to attack this project and it's community with shenanigans like doors, coffemachines, doomsday prophecy's, or some technical hurdle impossible to solve by CIG that will collapse the game lol
The small vocal haters rhetoric is that CIG and Chris Roberts are scammers, all backers are lunatics for enjoying the game, all streamers are paid shills, Star Citizen and Squadron 42 will never happen yada yada yada.
Yet, year after year they have to eat crow and digest the fact that Star Citizen just keeps getting better and better and more and more people enjoy the game.
Features they once said to be impossible are now ingame, performance said to be irreparable now we have people playing smoothly in 4k, studios that were supposed to collapse are bigger than ever and expanding, loans and lawsuits that would break the camels back just vanish into obscurity...
It's both funny and ironic, that a small socially deviant group, who gathers in secluded forum preaching beliefs of doomsday, constantly using mischief and obfuscation, trying to desperately turn those beliefs into reality, would call those who oppose that stance as "cultists" lol
Meanwhile Star Citizen continues it's development improving with every patch, new backers keep joining and enjoying the verse and more millions are made!
There's plenty of rhetoric between fanboy and hater that's been included in these discussions. Don't mistake your refusing to acknowledge those points in favor of lumping everyone who disagrees with you into the hater category for a complete absence of rational skepticism or criticism of the game's development.

Rational skepticism or criticism of the game's development could only be provided of value if given by someone with actual knowledge about the subject (Star Citizen) and profession (Game Development) in question.
Unfortunately that's a rare occurrence in most general gaming forums.
You'll notice that the threads with most participation are not technical and objective ones or about ingame stuff, but about drama, redundancy's and other frivolous miscellaneous where facts, accuracy or technical knowledge are not mandatory.

Some of his assumptions are... cloudy. However, the three most salient points I gleaned from his video (I watched maybe 60%) are:
1) Chris Roberts has gone on record saying the game won't be able to handle more than 50 people in the same area, yet fans promote the game as allowing "thousands" to interact; it's not a MMO, but is being promoted as such. Expectations are overly optimistic.
2) The way they are raising the money is shady; there was a key point early in SC's development where they had completely obliterated their Kickstarter goal and were ostensibly only somewhat behind schedule (late 2014 iirc). There was this poll oft. touted as proof something like 57% approved of the direction CIG chose to continue funding and expanding the scope. In truth, the poll only means something like a 7% affirmative because the vast majority of backers were not even aware of the poll as it was on the echo-chamber forums where moderate thinkers had long since been run out of town by the volunteer Lesnik mafia. After this point, CIG used a considerable portion of funds raised to develop not the game but even more ways to raise funds in a Ponzi-like, Escheresque scheme of recursive jpg sales development. They are continuing to capture "new money" by selling war bonded ships that cannot be melted, and tying "Lifetime Insurance" to only war bonded ships.
3) Star Citizen is a cult, due to the way fans will go out of their way to hunt down conversations about the game anywhere on the net and attack anyone trying to raise objective criticism.
From what I saw, his critiques are pretty damning but it doesn't jibe with the fact he spent $10k on the game. It is presented in an intelligent, rational manner.

The best month ever just became the worst realization ever.
At least 3 more years before SQ 42 released. Who knows how long before SC Universe or whatever they want to call it.
And about that super secret story they were protecting with not showing any information about SQ 42 how is that going to work? Are these betas in the road map all super secret avocado or to insure complete secrecy in house?

Self serving proclamations aren't always the facts, especially given CIG's revenue model.

Embarrassed for CIG and embarrassed for anyone who gave them any money...
