Why even release a game just collect the money and make an excuse why it didn't work out. This is a joke on so many levels but fools and their money are many. This is like going to a strip club and throwing money and not looking...

WOW.... I was so looking forward to the Squadron 42 update this month.  I thought maybe, just maybe we would get a surprise release... but no, all we got was another road map.  Feature complete by the end of 2019 with Alpha testing beginning in 2020... just wow.  I can't believe nearly 500 people need about two more years for Squadron 42 and about three more years for Star Citizen.  We are officially looking at 10+ years of development time.

Please, enlighten us on why it took Rock Star 8 YEARS to finish RED DEAD 2.

So, an injection of 46 million for the sole purpose of MARKETING Squadron 42 and business expenses is of the devil. Alrighty then.

Haha, officially gonna go into 10 years of development, haha, and as we know, things always get delayed, so we are looking at 11-12 years. Remember when people joked about 2020? And fanboys got angry, haha. This is obviously a marketing strategy to get more backers, "ohh wow so much money" tactics always blinds people. I wonder when will fanboys wakeup, after 14 years of development? Or they will proudly wave the flag of being the mmorpg spent most time in development. With mmorpgs like black desert being released these days, we can excpect SC to fall behind graphically in 2-3 years. (compared to other high end graphics games) heck, SQ42 is not that impressive already for a single player game.

Hahaha, how can you compare, a game released after 8 years and already being hailed as one of the best this year, to a buggy demo that is around 60% done by what the company is telling us. (in my opinion its around 25% done)

You mean he spends almost 50 million on the run costs of the company every year and crowdfunds less than that yearly? The financials have been released on their website today.

So it's not free money, nothing that could be anywhere near a profit.

You're delusional if you're trying to imply the investors are seeing the money from the crowdfund like they even have the margin, when in fact, it is the opposite because the company operative costs are higher:

LOL, the irony is strong here. Regardless how long it took to build RDR2, it was accomplished by studio with a proven track record of success using their own money no less. Clearly they are doing it wrong.

Meanwhile CR raised $46M to market a game which originally was supposed to be built for $2 to $3 million.....

    Business, its hard.

So awesome now seeing the pig use the fact that CIG was operating at a negative (for the past 3 or 4 years)  to prove some point he is trying to make about how good they are? I guess?

We all said they were (even if the numbers they claimed were true) not making enough to support what they were doing. Even napkin math proofed that out.

But it also begs the question. If this investment is SOLELY for MARKETING SQ 42, the same SQ 42 that isnt going to be released for at least 3 years and probably realistically 4 or 5. How is it going to help a company that has between 5-14 million in the bank and running in the red for 4 straight years?

And why would they take an investor so far from release for marketing?

Nothing about any of this make sense, at least the way theyre trying to sell it.

They would have been better off releasing the financials (but WITHOUT a 'legit' investor that would have never happened) and pleaded poverty. Begging the true believers to help keep the dream alive.

The fact that no one is focusing on how LITTLE they have left is amazing to me. I guess it shows most people really dont read anything they just read a headline or a post from someone and parrot it.

At this point, if the Forbes article is close to accurate they may go bankrupt before they get through next year, especially if ship sales and backer funding slows even a little bit. If the article is right its actually worse than I thought it was and that 46 million even if they use it for things its not supposed to be used for is only enough to maybe buy them a year.

SOME people do realize it, ironically a few of them were the stalwart SC streamers. Watching them today was like watching someone at their mothers funeral.

Point used to prove against the argument he was implying, as you seem too blind to even understand it in your usual hollow rants. Meh the usual thing why do I even bother xD

    Calling it now:
If... not saying it will... but if this somehow all falls apart, for whatever reason, the hardcore backers and fans will blame the skeptics for creating enough negativity to play a part in the downfall.

Not so much a statement on SC, rather as how the internet tends to operate.

Rockstar never gave release dates or promised anything. . or took people's money based on those dates and promises?  They decided to do that on their own.  I don't disagree with the rest of what you said but that seemed like a pretty poor comparison.

So this going to be the first 1 billion dollar game?
Well, since we were told that every dollar would be worth 4 times as much, since they wouldn't have to spend it on a publisher, advertising and such (oooh, oops), you could say it already is.

    But I wouldn't....

It's still in the top 5 most expensive game development of all times.   And it's running a Red Queen's Race to keep going.

Looks pretty though.  And maybe they'll eventually get the elevators to run on time.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Like we've said, why launch? Everytime we turn around they are  given millions and have no pressure whatsoever to even show a semi finished product.

At this point i'm willing to bet it is the same backers shelling out more of their own money over and over to feed their hope. After all that's been going on with this game i honestly doubt new customers would be interested in paying for this project before an official release. All i can say is good luck with that.

Sure... like the other Clown saying there are only 2000 whales that paid it all... this is just 100.000 $per head :) or they are +700.000 backers who mainly paid not more than the equivalent of a WOW subscription. Guess what is true

The bankrupt story have been given every year since 4 years. Now they have 46M$ extra... and not even started to get new pledges for 2019... bankrupt is for 2019 :) The Clown said: "collapse 90 days top for sure!"... in 2015 lol

    This is so cute.
It's like a classic comic superhero story.

Chris is the hero out to save PC Gaming and Derek Smart is the arch-villain, set to destroy the dream of gaming utopia.

The morale of the story is that Star Citizen fanboys take people talking garbage way too seriously.

The only winners are Goons who have been loving every moment of it.

Very few people claimed bankruptcy was on the cards though. Mostly it was just showing that CIG were consuming a lot more of their funding than backers believed, as well as showing the amount of income required was unsustainable in the long term.
The longer something takes the higher the chance of dissatisfaction setting in which results in less spending, that's a simple fact.

The explanation from Roberts is that the $46M is primarily for marketing of Sq42, not for CIG's operating costs which obviously means they have much less usable capital on hand.
  • hfztthfztt Member RarePosts: 1,401
So, Derek Smart was right? They were just about to run out of cash.
Why else sell 10% of the company?
