If you own a PC copy of Fallout 76 and have logged in to the game before the end of 2018, you'll be pleased to hear that Bethesda is providing you with a copy of the Fallout Classic Collection for free. Think of it as sort of an "apology without anyone actually saying they're sorry" kind of thing or just as a nicely unexpected holiday gift. According to the Bethesda Twitter, "the entitlement is expected to go live in early January".

Unfortunately the mis-steps continue, they should have given everyone including console owners something of real value.
"What, don't you people own PC's?"
"Er, no, we actually don't."
Heck, free Atoms would have been more appropriate.

Interplay licensed the game (and GURPS system). Interplay originally developed it as a Wasteland "copy" due to licensing. Things that far back get fuzzy but as I recall Interplay then assigned THEIR developer BIS to it after the initial GURPs license fell through. But sure... credit can be spread around. Either way.. not Bethesda.
You are correct. The original plan was GURPs; licencing fell through so they developed their own system. The original Wasteland is now freeware. Wasteland and the original Bard's Tale titles were groundbreaking back in the day for the story and introduction of some graphics. I orginally plaged them in CGA
So too for the first fallout games that featured partial voice acting. I still recall them fondly. The stories were great and discovering more about the land was a major draw for me.
I'm looking for some of that in the New Encased game in development.

So far you've failed on all of these, so this gift feels more like a way to say you won't even try and just try to bribe us into silence.

2 Costs them nothing as it is just digital code, not like sending a boxed version of game or anything.
3 Sales have likely already dried up to nothing,so they are not hurting their pocketbook at all.
So overall, this is just the cheapest ,cost effective way of trying to patch things up,you cannot erase a scam job.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I remember getting them for free a few years ago from Good Old Games.
