If you own a PC copy of Fallout 76 and have logged in to the game before the end of 2018, you'll be pleased to hear that Bethesda is providing you with a copy of the Fallout Classic Collection for free. Think of it as sort of an "apology without anyone actually saying they're sorry" kind of thing or just as a nicely unexpected holiday gift. According to the Bethesda Twitter, "the entitlement is expected to go live in early January".

C'mon, does no one find the fact that Bethesda is giving away the collection (that Interplay made... not Bethesda) that Interplay gave away FOR FREE when they lost the rights to their own IP? It's hilarious on so many levels.

Most of the people that purchased Fallout 76 probably already has these games though. Ya know, because they are/were a fan of the series, duh Bethesda.

Unfortunately the mis-steps continue, they should have given everyone including console owners something of real value.

That's a good way to increase holiday sales for the game.

Interplay licensed the game (and GURPS system). Interplay originally developed it as a Wasteland "copy" due to licensing. Things that far back get fuzzy but as I recall Interplay then assigned THEIR developer BIS to it after the initial GURPs license fell through. But sure... credit can be spread around. Either way.. not Bethesda.

You are correct. The original plan was GURPs; licencing fell through so they developed their own system. The original Wasteland is now freeware. Wasteland and the original Bard's Tale titles were groundbreaking back in the day for the story and introduction of some graphics. I orginally plaged them in CGA :)

So too for the first fallout games that featured partial voice acting. I still recall them fondly. The stories were great and discovering more about the land was a major draw for me.

I'm looking for some of that in the New Encased game in development.

    Already have those games.

I can imagine new players who haven't played the early classics would probably see just how much of a shite game F76 is in comparison

Those early games dont have the flashy graphics but they have something far more important - gameplay.
    And NPCs.

I never played Fallout Tactics. I should check that out. I much preferred the original gameplay from the original and Fallout 2 to Fallout 3. Still, it seems unlikely that anyone who purchased Fallout 76 is actually interested in the original games. And anyone who actually *liked* Fallout 76 but never played the originals is probably not going to put much time in to playing them.

Look Bethesda, that's not what people asked. They didn't ask for outdated gifts. They asked for you to stop being disingenuous, fix your store and at least try to fix the game.

So far you've failed on all of these, so this gift feels more like a way to say you won't even try and just try to bribe us into silence.

Even Bethesda knows how bad Fallout 76 is and wants people to play the older Fallouts instead

1 You already own the game so it does nothing for yourself.
2 Costs them nothing as it is just digital code, not like sending a boxed version of game or anything.
3 Sales have likely already dried up to nothing,so they are not hurting their pocketbook at all.
So overall, this is just the cheapest ,cost effective way of trying to patch things up,you cannot erase a scam job.

Fallout 76 has flashy graphics? Maybe by the standards of last generation.

They could have swindled a few console users with this strategy.

EDIT: just read the tweet and it's people from all platforms, i thought it was PC only.

Those classic games run on anything and i'm pretty sure anyone who owns a console has at least a cheap non-gaming Walmart PC/laptop that can run old FO games.

As was mentioned earlier as well, those who pre-ordered FO76 got them included....so, this means nothing to most people....What the hell is going on with Bethesda, its like they are being mentored by EA
