One has to wonder if we'll EVER get a great modern era Star Wars game? :<
Probably not from EA. They got exclusive SW rights and so far all we've seen are two very disappointing Battle Front games and now two canceled projects. I've said it before and I'll say it again, EA bit off more than they could chew when they took on the exclusive SW license.
My hope is this will make Disney rethink that strategy and kick EA to the curb so some other studios can get a crack at the IP.
Disney is in for the money they'll find a other studios to add lockbox. If not yet seen when Disney clam a fan made video on youtube. Money called Disney this will not change EA only have to do try find ways keep Disney wallet happy at the same time EA taking their share.
Sad if true but there has yet to be any mobile game that I really want to play. Mobile is fine if you have no other choice but for me it is the LAST choice I would make.
That's the whole industry. I'm old enough to remember when most games were PC exlusive now we hardly ever see that. Mobile is the next phase of that.
Personally, I'm done with Star Wars as a franchise. The last few mainline movies have... not been to my taste. I see no reason to believe that anything they make in the future will be any better (though Rogue One was pretty good). At this point, I think it's pretty futile to expect anything good to come along.
I watched the movies for 1) Carrie Fisher; and 2) a couple hours' diversion. I don't geek out on the universe and they served their purposes. Nothing will ever be as good as the original trilogy so the rest are just John Williams music videos with great performances from Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. Now that they're done, meh...I'm probably out too.
I think most of us, even we old SW fans, were just there for the couple hours of diversion. And sadly the film makers failed at even that. I don't dislike the new films because they are bad SW films, but because they are hackneyed films in general. It boggles the mind how a studio with near infinite resources and a ready made fanbase could have produced films so generic and banal.
I'm hoping that the new trilogy being penned by the two main guys from Game of thrones remedies this. The only thing I've heard is it won't have anything to do with the Skywalker era. Here's hoping it's set in the Old Republic. I doubt this part will happen, but I really hope it's rated R.
meh. I'm more of a EU fan anyway. I always thought the OG films were just okay. The EU comics/books are all awesome though, so I really want a open world KOTOR 3 or a Tales of the Jedi game.. that would be sick.
So to me Closing this down is one step closer to the darkside...the best side. cue my imperial march music.

Star Was maybe the number 2 IP ever for gaming (some would even place it above LoTR) now its anon factor. At best the IP is now having to cater to people in at least their 40s for any sort of resemblance of when the franchise was any good at all.
But when Disney is a disgrace and Sears is going out of business it shows the changing times we are living in in general. So in the grand scheme the Star Wars universe having another failure in the gaming world isnt even a blip on the radar. And I doubt anyone even really cares.
They eventually deliver some mobile crap game or maybe a cartoony console game like Kingdom Hearts and slap a Death Star on it.

The people behind it are not smart enough to create anything.
I will repeat what i always say, when i see a game coming out using a known popular IP,imo that developer or investors are only doing it for the instant cash it will generate no matter how good or bad it is.
I feel two things happened. 1 The market does not look good to invest into a large game. 2 They want to move to a less costly ,easier, safer, less risky idea like maybe mobile. There very well could have been investors that wanted this game but after seeing way too much cost and little done, they saw this as being a lose lose. So we can move forward and expect a LOT more developers trying to sell us the Trove's and Devilians and moba's and mobile games and of course the never ending table scraps called early access but nothing will look both grand and polished.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I feel this also proves that gaming is just a money angle. If they were SERIOUS about making this idea into a great game, there is NOTHING to stop them, just money and time. EA has lots of money, they can afford the time,so yep this was another reason based on BUSINESS and not gaming.

These idiots don't care about making good games anymore. Read their social media.

Agree. Nonthing has even come close to the originals. I didn't care for the prequels and the more recent ones have been grabage, imo. I have never really gotten into any of the SW games and as long as EA has the rights, I never will.
It's time to let Star Wars RIP.

EA probably paid EEDAR to run it through its playtests and it scored so low that the most logical decision financially was to cut the losses and move on.
The game must have really sucked.
Why is nobody considering the possibility that it was just a bad project that had no future?
Look at Kano with his common sense.
Weirdo.

Because you could quite literally sell a game that was just cleaning up Bantha shit set to John William’s score and sell a million copies.
It’s possible but unlikely IMHO.

Update on the original story: People in the know are claiming that EA decision makers didn't like the projected release date for this, so have cancelled it in favour of a smaller SW project with a release date in 2020.
So, some pile o'shite they can churn out in under 2 years and just grab cash with...sounds like a mobile title me. Although the article writer believes the 2020 release could coincide with next gen consoles. But there ain't no way you're building a *good* game for next gen consoles in under 2 years starting now.

When was it never just about money? They are a BUSINESS.

The latest development from the Kotaku article is reporting that it was canceled because EA felt the game was going to take to long to complete, so they canceled it in favor of trying to release a smaller scoped SW game(s) sooner. Wouldnt surprise me if they did this in order to satisfy some kind of requirement of the agreement with Disney.
Of course they did! EA knew it was going to make crap it's done that twice now with the other two titles! It was only a matter of time! Hopefully they sell the ip to another studio so they can actually do something great with it!

Honestly cutting losses and moving in is one of the hardest for so many companies to do and that’s why we end up with trash and incomplete games.

EA doesn't have what it takes to make a game that good.

Battle front 2 was pretty good. I just wish we got Real open world mmo.
