Obsidian Entertainment has revealed that a new way to play Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is coming on Thursday, January 24th with the next update. Once the patch is deployed, players starting a new PoE2 playthrough will be able to do so using a turn-based combat system. This allows players to choose between turn-based or real-time with pause modes, though the TBS mode will be considered "beta".

Obsidian proves themselves dedicated to their fans once again. They and Larian are pretty good examples of studios that still seem "in it" for the passion as much as the dough.

In turn-based style everyone act in his own turn, you can be very tactical and precise.
In real time everyone moves together, AI is terrible and most of the time you need to "fix" whatever they're doing.
I don't like it, turn-based sounds better for this kind of games to me. If I want action, I want to move my character in the very best possible way, not babysitting a bad AI and fixing wrong positions through pause and play every time.
Being able to largely just play my created character as a part of the group is amazing for immersion (for me).
