A long story short, most MMORPGs on the market today don't suit my playstyle, that is PvP, open world, non themepark.
Right now the game is pretty bare bones yet fun to play, after a day I
asked for a recruiting guild in chat and signed up straight away ... it
helps!
Combat:
Combat is slow paced with no tab targeting but imagine if Mortal Online
combat were good and worked and then you'd have Gloria Victis combat.
PvP is partial loot, non- tab targeting, a realistic medieval setting so no women in metal wonder bras firing fireballs (not that I have a problem with metal wonder bras). Magic isn't in the game yet since it's still in alpha or early access on steam but when initiated it'll be in the form of curses and blessings.
There are three factions at the moment, one your standard middle ages knight, another more Norseman and the third an arabic faction.
Crafting:
I'm not a crafter but it's a big part of the game since you don't get all your gear dropping from a badger's arse and of course gear evemntually breaks so being in a guild is pretty essential, not for survival but certainly for success. There's also a market system but it's just been implemented so that's kind of got growing pains.
Conclusion:
Gloria Victis does suit my playstyle that is to say it is an open world, PvP partial loot MMORPG with factions and siege warfare. My first impression was of something similar in philosophy to Darkfall with a bit of Camelot Unchained (to which I'm also pledged) added in alongside a Mortal Online combat system (except it works well in Gloria Victis).
Although this game has much incommon with Darkfall it isn't so harsh due to a faction system yet it still contains the sexy elements that kept me playing Darkfall.
I see this game being a niche title but not as niche as Darkfall and certainly not as niche as Mortal Online but probably not as popular as Camelot Unchained will be.
However the big plus that this game has over Camelot Unchained is that I can play it now and it's fun.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
