It is good to see talent going into Blizzard, but only a change in direction for WoW will convince me anything is really being done.
At this point the only thing can save WoW is a do-over. Roll her back to Wrath of the Lich King and start from there with a new series of events, expacs, and ya know... actually listen to what the players want this time.
Kinda sad to see CDPR leaking talent. Not only that but they go straight to a company that ... is well known to underpay, massively - unless you are a long-time worker.
I was going to disagree so I looked it up and found this from Indeed. Lessons learned kids, game development doesn't pay, work for a bank instead.
"The average Blizzard Entertainment salary ranges from approximately $34,727 per year for Customer Service Representative to $135,676 per yearfor Technical Lead. Average Blizzard Entertainment hourly pay ranges from approximately $12.72 per hour for Game Master to $42.62 per hour for Software Engineer"
And like I said, the cost of living there makes these salaries even worse. A moderate 3Bdm 3bath house in Irvine can run about $1 million. That's a house in Woodbridge built in the late 70s. If you want to live in a nicer area, the prices go up from there. Then there's property tax and all that. And consider the housing market.
Edit. I saw a video or read somewhere that those hourly salary employees have to commute pretty long distances unless they are rooming with several other people in a cramped house or apartment because the rent is so high.
This is the house I grew up in, it's in the suburbs near Vancouver BC
If you're making 12.75/hr, you should be looking for an apartment with three rooms. Not a house with 3B&3b. And there is nothing wrong with that.

$12.75 an hour means you are likely living out of a cardboard box, especially in Irvine.

We're starting to see the detrimental effects of this in Nashville. People commute 1.5 hours or more because the jobs they can get won't allow them to afford anything closer. Even those with roommates; rental properties are charging 2.5-3 times the mortgage costs for things like townhomes.
For a 3 bedroom/2 bath townhome that mortgages it to approximately 700/month, the rental market is currently charging 1500/month+.

Which makes you wonder how much Blizzard offered him to go work for them.
Well the last guy who took a job there got $15 million.
Actually, no.
He might end up with $15 million, but he might not, what he actually got, is $900k a year and a $3.75 million signing bonus.
Oh way to rain on the comedic value of what I said. I know everything you stated, but that wasn't the point.

Oh I wish. I could afford that.
Here in the Harvard area (Cambridge MA) that's starting a $3500 and then goes up from there.
I guess that's the issue with living in interesting Urban places, they become expensive and to live in the country seems like "nothing"
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Costs of living are interesting in that it's so regional.
The costs of living here are far outpacing the wage growth for the vast majority of jobs. About the only folks getting paid enough to keep up are the healthcare industry folks as Nashville has a lot of healthcare industry infrastructure.
I'm lucky; with the VA loan, it was an easy choice for me to invest in a property to live in, then rent out once I chose to move. Not many are so lucky, and are facing exploding costs.

US companies pay significantly better than EU or CA companies for any sort of IT or Dev work.

Yes, it was literally the house I lived in as well. I have a nerdy hobby of checking real estate values as well. It was around 300k when my parents bought it in the late 70s. They flipped it a couple years later and we moved to a nicer place by the beach, rinse and repeat. That was the 70s and 80s real estate market in California.
Am I the only one who thinks this a bit of a wtf moment? While CDPR may make good games, it doesn't mean everyone who works there is some kind of genius, it the combination of a lot of things from the owners down to the artists and devs. From what I know of what a Creative Director is, that isn't CDPRs strong suit. I wouldn't give any of the Witcher series or Cyberpunk a high rating on creativity. Maybe a 6? they are like Blizzard already, they aren't breaking ground, but they make a good product.
A good fit that way maybe, but from the little details I see in Blizzard games they already have an abundance of creative people that likely have tons of awesome ideas shut down day after day by the same people that seem to have told the dev team to make Legion again but with half the money. With a complete absence of clue it doesn't matter who they hire.
Lol why ppl assuming we just buy homes in Cali in cash. We get mortgages so no one is dropping 1mil. plus you're not losing that money the house is actually making you money so its not a loss of income.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
