I disagree, the hype is about wanting to confirm if it's a train wreck of mediocrity and dialed in video game development or there's actually a gem of a good game in there. For that, I expect there to be plenty of hype.
I'm sure if the game can launch, run properly, and players can jump, fly, pew pew, and do pseudo Fortnite dances people will pull their trousers down for it.
So yeah, the hype is definitely there. The forum is about to be on fire with debate. I just HOPE the game is actually decent because it sure AF looks like a template, open but on rails, 4 player, 4 archetype, 3rd person Destiny competitor, from my perspective.
I love the premise of the game though.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
With the name EA attached to this its still has me very optimistic about whats to come after launch with this game. I will have to pass and allow others to I guess enjoy it.
I will say this, waiting at the login screen and hearing the music, the score is definitely incredible (for the little musical loop I'm getting). Very well done.
I wouldn't be surprised if 'servers full' is being used by marketing, instead of saying servers down or crashed. Reports are that people who are in can't do missions. Twitter feed says they're working on it. #AnthemVIPDEMO

I can imagine they are working out some bugs, to be expected, I'm sure they couldn't really fully load test with the amount of real people that would be joining the demo. This is the time to work out the kinks, through this and the open beta, so launch will be smoother than this. That's my hope anyway....

Good shooting mechanics can cover a multitude of other design sins, for me at least. It does look like what you describe regarding template and mechanics. Either no one has an original though or everyone is trying to do the same thing at the same time but just a little differently so you'll play their version.
I don't think that there is enough saturation in the genre for it to matter.
The competition is Destiny and Warframe.
Destiny is a first person shooter, and thus doesn't overlap that heavily with either Warframe or Anthem.
Warframe is third person, but has a greater emphasis on melee combat and parkour, with less refined gunplay and less polished but more numerous content. Warframe is also all about power fantasy and is intentionally easy, whereas this is not true for Destiny or Anthem. Its reward system is also based more around materials than lucky drops, as everything is crafted. Warframe is thus not an endgame type of game, and it makes no attempt to funnel players in a specific direction, but rather attempts to keep them in a state of constant ever-expanding "midgame."
Anthem is more like Destiny but its third person perspective, increased emphasis on mobility, and more Diablo like loot and customization should help it find an audience distinct from the Destiny/Warframe one.
Nothing to report so far. Once I leave the hub to go on a mission the loading screen locks up when nearly complete. Have to close the game and log back in. I may end up waiting till tomorrow to actually play. I've got free time so no worries. Not surprised on first day really.
And... stuck at connecting screen... Pretty easy to get back in but can't get out of town without demo locking up.

There are tons of good action shooters with multiplayer, both FPS and TPS. The choices aren't just Destiny and Warframe, yuck.
Looter shooters aren't just shooters. It doesn't hold that someone who likes Warframe is going to like Call of Duty, because the gameplay loop is different beyond the surface level "shoot things in head, now they dead."
That's like saying that Diablo is competing equally with all RPGs and not primarily with ARPGs like Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, and Victor Vran.
Or like Crash Team Racing's remake is competing with all racing games equally, rather than primarily against other cart races like Mario Kart.
Anyone have a spare invite code? If you hook me up, I'll make sure to do the same for you in the future
If I did you would have it. My son's friend gave him one (for PS4) and he downloaded it last night I just found out. I've been trying to connect since I posted last but gave up pressing 'X' every 10 - 15 seconds to refresh the timeout.
I appreciate that my friend. I hope your son likes it

Subgenres matter.

Do tell. The only other one that comes to mind is Borderlands. And that is the (yuck), not Warframe.

Shit, man. I can't believe I forgot about the Division considering it's one of the better ones.
"polish up the game"No bias sounding there. Not simply delivering the news but has to put in that endorsed plug like this site actually KNOWS for fact they are polishing the game?Devs say anything they want, there is no law against them lying and deceiving gamer's,so even if they told this site they spent the last month polishing it,it caries ZERO weight on the honesty scale.
There is really nothing left to say about this game, you can watch a 2 minute video and see everything this game is doing and it isn't very much at all. There are ALWAYS tell tale signs of a developer's effort gone into a game and i saw this one when i saw the weak 3 class, all look basically the same mech units. They went for a VERY Easy design, one which would take not much effort to get something done in a single year with an average sized team, maybe even less. What is going on here is typical of big business, this is likely a rather large marketing campaign which will buy this game more sales than it deserves.Knowing we already have a plethora of shooter games to choose from,i see VERY little value in this game, like not worth my time even if it was 100% free, yep that is how weak i consider this game to be.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

We got three others then. And where I enjoyed Destiny for its looks and shooting mechanics and Warframe for its mission and customisation options I really didn’t like The Division.
I do agree the (sub) genre isn’t saturated at all. But Anthem being The Division meets ME:A is a big no for me, I was hoping for a Warframe that isn’t ugly as sin with more focus on proper shooting....

If anyone watched the streams, you go to see just how bad the game is ,from the uneventful town hub with repeated models to mission game play "how creative"to incredibly boring missions with Ai that is more like simple fodder to appease those that need to feel satisfied shooting up stuff with ease, like some moba fodder waddling around.
Watching the pain on AJoe's face was classic,he was hyped but very soon realized, the game is not very good and looked to be very bored playing it after only 30 minutes. Him and his bros coined the phrase "this game is starting to feel like one of those games we just play, instead of WANTING to play",obviously for business reasons only.

To sum up this drivel. "I haven't played the game." "I watched one video and now am a certified expert." You are the poster boy of Dunning-Kruger effect.
Funny thing, any game you dislike I take as a good sign. Never anything but negative bullshit, supported by absolute gibberish. You really need a new hobby.
I have just played this demo for a few hours, and there is one important thing to add:
This game is NOT made for solo players!
You *can* play solo, but this is currently buggy as hell. When setting your play to "private", you will still be put in a group with others most of the time. And when solo actually works, it's VERY clear you're doing stuff meant for 4 players, there is no reduction of enemies or difficulty.
In detail:
I tried the first mission 3 times, it's called something with Threat, don't remember exactly. Even though I set it to private, I was put in a group with 3 others the first 2 times. First time, we started at the end of the mission, well at least that's when I joined. We completed the objective and got rewarded, but for me the objective was NOT completed. Second try, we started a couple of objectives before the final one, and for whatever reason, the session ended before we were done, and I got less rewards than first time. 3rd time the solo setting finally kicked in, and I started a long journey through several objectives and A LOT of trash mobs, before finally getting to where we came on the first 2 tries. Died a lot on my way there, and had no chance at all soloing the final objective. Saw absolutely no reduction in difficulty or amount of mobs compared to when in a full group.
Soloing also makes you miss out on rewards. For example, the Alliance system (not currently active, though) will reward you with coins based on how well the best 5 players you teamed up with the last week performed. No team = no reward at all. You'll find info in-game about this by browsing the journal.
If you prefer solo play, this game is not for you. If you love multiplayer games, though, there's a chance you'll have a lot of fun. Also worth mentioning, be prepared to stare A LOT on loading screens, because they're everywhere, even when doing simple stuff like accessing the forge to upgrade your gear.
My final verdict:
A beautiful world, though EXTREMELY grindy, and designed around group play. Not my cup of tea, will not spend a dime on it.
If you can't try it now, do so on Friday, when the public demo gets available - do NOT buy before trying!!!

I think it's like Left 4 dead 1 & 2. You can play it solo. But it's way more difficult and definitely way less fun goingat it solo. This game is made for multiplayer.
