I don't understand or appreciate (apparently) crossovers. I mean...a car in a fantasy MMO? OK whatever
Have you ever played the game? I mean half the story is about corrupted technology. There have been entire games based on sky pirates.
Yeah but how does it manifest? The problem with these games and adding technology is that there is a way to do it that feels congruent with the world. Just throwing in a "modern" bit of technology is not really doing it.
I'm with Suzy.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I wonder if SQEnix knows that they could win a large swath of their audience back jut by making what I can only assume would be a fairly simple option in the game:
I stopped playing FF when they started with the "action combat" nonsense. Now, I am not saying to remove it. I am sure there are people who like it, and I am not one of those "only do what I want" kind of guys. But why not give the option to either do the action combat or turn based? I play all the older versions of the game still. I love Persona. I even love Divinity: Original Sin which has a sort of hybrid turn based thing going on. If they gave me a FF12,13,and 15 with turn based combat, I would play them. As it stands now, it's just a mindless hack and slash.
This just saved me from resubbing. Atleast after watching that video linked, with the car and machine guns with drum mags. Sad to me.
I reckon there are folks asking for this kinda stuff, but man does it kill the game for me. Even in Archeage, they try and make the cars they put in fit the art style at the very least.
Haven't played since it relaunched and only for a short time. It's just not my kind of game as I prefer more "traditional" medieval low magic" type worlds.
I wasn't actually trying to be insulting, it's just that all of these crossovers in lots of games seem odd to me and don't do anything to increase my interest or enjoyment of a given game. That said, I get that some people love it and I say "Huzzah!" More power to 'em.
You like WoW though Suzie....motorcycles/flying robots/planes....that said, the motorcycle in FFXIV was very poorly done when you see it actually working in game, especially when it flies and their recent whale mount confuses me as well, when its a 4-6 seater in the chinese/korean version but single seater in western release. Couple that with this collab being delayed for a couple of years as well, it better be permanent like rathalos.
Square Boardroom Meeting: "Look at Fortnite, they stick any old thing in as a costume, look at the money they are making...**** the lore lets make money!"
I quite like these crossovers as they mix things up a little but are not intrusive to the point they change the feel of the game world. When you have well known and loved IP's why not flaunt them as long as they are done tastefully.
As a long term WoW player I have to say I find it fantastic that you can earn the four player mount in-game as I'm 110% sure this would have been a store exclusive in WoW and they would have charged you £25+ for it.
At least ontop of the same old rehashed events (Christmas, Halloween and so on) you get new events every couple months. Don't understand all this complaining.

Cross-overs seems to be the direction Yoshida's decided to take FFXIV.
Back when they announced the first couple, I posted concern that they would get carried away with it and turn XIV into a cross-marketing platform. I was told I was paranoid and/or trolling, unreasonable. Was told it would only be FF and since it's all the same universe, it's fine (unless you mention FFXI of course, because XI is Satan, apparently).
So far we've had FFXIII, Monster Hunter, FFXI, Dragon Quest, FFXII/Tactics.. maybe some I'm forgetting. Now there's a Nier Automata dungeon coming, and a FFXV cross-over.
FFXIV has basically become a cross-marketing platform.
So much for me being "paranoid" or "trolling", or "unreasonable". Of course, I'm sure those who called me those things back then have already pivoted and will now defend it as an obvious, brilliant move. Because Yoshida can do no wrong in their eyes.
What a disappointment FFXIV turned out to be. Twice.
No you're just a bitter cynic with nothing but vitriol to add.
Oh, look. I seem to have hit a nerve and upset a fan.
How cute.
I was perfectly clear in my last post. I'm disappointed about being right regarding FFXIV becoming a cross-marketing platform, instead of its own self-contained, stand-alone setting (like FFXI and their other numbered titles).
I'm disappointed because I wonder what they could have done if they'd used those precious dev resources to expand on the lore/environments/stories/settings of Hydaelyn/Eorzea, instead of shoe-horning other, completely unrelated IPs - just to get more interest/sales from both audiences - speaking of "cynical".
'A for effort' in your "counter", though. You really tried. I'm sure YoshiP totally notices and appreciates you for attacking his critics.

Yes! That's the one I couldn't remember. Or at least one of them.

So you are going to ignore 99.99% of game just because of temporary colab you can skip? Not to mention that FF xiv is already fantasy and light SF hybrid. There are flying battleships and other technology in game but ok.
Like I pointed out when referencing Archeage, its not the "SF", its the artstyle used being completely out of place in this lore setting. And its not temporary when there will be real world art style cars driving around from now on, drum mag machine guns along with it. The event may end, but they are not taking the cars and machine guns from the people that have them.
And as I have said in other threads in other topics, I'm all for a company doing whatever they want with their game, I'm all for players enjoying whatever crazy to me stuff they want to. I just don't, and as I said in my original post, I'm glad I saw this and saved myself the monthly fee I was actually about to spend to get back into FFXIV, because after seeing where its going in the near future, I don't want to play anymore.
