Back in 2016 I'd tell people Pantheon would release no sooner than
2020, if it didn't vaporize beforehand. People thought I was bonkers,
now it's starting to look conservative lol.
This is good news indeed. I am just of the opinion many people will love to play Everquest again . I want the game as to be as difficult as the first game. People who get turned off by that well tough titties I say. I loved playing in P99 but it was way easier because too many generous people tend to ruin the game and make it too easy. The WoW crowd won't be able to hack it .
Damn, op. If you feel this way about Pantheon, what is your take on Crowfall and Star Citizen? Matter of fact, back in the day, you would have simply died from heart failure waiting on Darkfall Online. That game took like 13 years to release. You really need to learn what vaporware is. Give it another 5+ years before Pantheon can be given the vaporware moniker. Star Citizen on the other hand, now that is a game nearing vaporware status if it hasn't gotten there already.
I don't think that word, vaporware, means what you think it does.
SC may never fully release, but they already have backers playing what is available on a daily basis, heck, with their many free fly weekends anyone can give it a whirl.
Pantheon isn't vaporware either, but since we've seen very little, and only a very select few have been permitted access to play, it's hard to know what like.
In fact, last I checked, they didnt have a persistent build to test, as stated on their pledge page.

Interesting news indeed, but close to beta, is it even in alpha yet?
I ask because the notice on the pledge page currently reads
"Pre-Alpha sessions are on hiatius at this time awaiting the next phase of Pre-Alpha to begin.
Please sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when Pre-Alpha sessions will resume."
So I have to wonder, how much testing you have actually done and on how much of the game world.
Yeah, yeah, I know, NDA and all that, but I think I'll still view with a critical eye predictions of "greatness," especially considering the level of "investment" one such as yourself has in its success. ($1000 or more backer)

4-5 Years is about average for a MMO release. Hell, WOW took approximately that if you assume the announcement was in 2001, release in 2004. Normally they announce after they've already been working on it for a year or 2.

Star citizen was supposed to launch Sep timeframe this year. Slipped to next year.
Source - insider.
While it has been a shitshow for sure Star Citizen will actually launch.
I think it will continue to "release" ever more content, but never truly "launch" in the traditional sense of the term.
For the multiplayer version launch will be the day they declare no more wipes and start "selling" the game rather than taking donations.
For the single player version once it goes for sale, its launched in my book.
Speaking of donations, just like with SotA, I suspect Robert's Industries will continue to solicit them "post launch" for future content expansions, and they will continue to rake in the free cash.
Probably a great topic for it's own thread so best to not hijack this one and keep the focus on Pantheon.

25 million players in the first 48 hours like Apex Legends?
Or more like 30k players?
The standards for huge success are quite different today than back in 1999
The most important figure for Pantheon will be - 6 months post launch - how many players stick around.
I would say HUGE success by todays standards would be over 1 million subscribers by the first 6 months. if that happens then i can see the game going up in numbers ( provided the content and the experience remains... ). it will never reach wow numbers , not even close , but it will be successful MMO that will cover the social and the PvE aspect better than any other game out now.
Why yes, a sustained million players would definitely be a huge success.
The problem with too huge successes is of course that that happends what happened to Blizzard: the big investors take over and suck the game empty for profit.
As a consequence, WoW never was worked on by much.

As long as what you say, it's made well.
By the way thanks for the update
