People keep comparing Anthem to Warframe , this is like comparing Diablo 3 to Path of Exile , While they are similar type of games there just not the same quality
They aren't even the same design philosophy. They don't play the same at all.

Warframe is extremely easy. Enemies die basically instantly in 90% of content, and the only "endgame" is hours-long runs of the endless mission types. Melee is more emphasized and mobility is primarily ground-level via sliding, wall running, etc. Also, since loot is crafting-based, gear is more obtainable, but less exciting to obtain.

Anthem is more similar to Firefall in that enemies take longer to kill, classes are distinct, each class has multiple power loadouts, and mobility is primarily vertical via flight. Gear is is more exciting because, like Destiny, it is drop based more than crafting based.

Looking forward to it nonetheless. It's the first interesting release to me this year, in a series of desirable 2019 games (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Devil May Cry 5, Astral Chain, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Shin Megami Tensei 5, if it releases this year).

You enjoy paying full price for a game you will play for a month or pay the 14.99 get a month's worth of enjoyment and be done at a cheaper price. I mean EA will enjoy your hatred of them.

Actually. I stopped buying their games. $99 a year for access to all of there games is a good deal. I dont need to own them...and if i feel like i do then ill buy it when its like $10 for the ultimate pack.

What you shouldn't do is do Origin access and buy there games...makes no sense. You pretty much get access it game with it.

For $99 I pretty much got the best pack of this game and access a week early...and...All the other games Like BF1, BF V etc..

That's only a good deal if you actually like EA games overall.

If you're in my boat and only generally buy EA games if they're Bioware titles, $99/year is more difficult to justify.

Instead of buying the game outright I opted to sign up for Origin Accesss. If it's bad or short lived, I'm only out $16. So far I'm having fun with it on the cheap, so I've easily gotten my money's worth. If the game proves to have any longevity I'll likely dump my subscription and buy the game to save money over time.

But I can happily say "so far, so good."
This to me if I was playing would have definitely been the smart way to go!

Big hyped games are so hit and miss that it really is a 50/50 coin toss for most folks.  Yes you are essentially renting the game but at same time you are not out the full 60-80 depending on edition.
You could honestly make the argument that the Premier Access deal is like the old MMORPGs without the box price.  Only difference being you can't download the client until you sub.  However, I don't think there's any guarantee it won't come out of the vault, forcing you to still pay another $60 to keep playing.  If there were a guarantee it was staying as long as dev support remains, that would make the deal no worse than what we paid to access DAoC or EQ.

I couldnt get into it. It's miles better than the demo, but that's a low bar. Visually it's spectacular, but I find I get bored of it very fast. I think part of it is the loot system just doesn't work for me. There's no thrill of finding something amazing out in the wild, and maybe even equipping it then and there. Also. The enemies are bland, especially while killing them with the under-whelming gunplay. Just not for me I guess.

So far from my experences in game i'd rate it about a 6/10. A lot of performance issues, and every mission so far feels like the same thing over and over: travel a bit, fight a wave or 2 of enemies, travel some more, repeat fighting enemies, till mission end. Its quite boring too. The games load times are also horrible and I have it on a fairly new samsung 860 evo SSD god help console players if it takes this long to load on a ssd in a pc, prob takes a minute+to load in on consoles

I also hate the fact I cannot advance the chats with the npc faster, as I can read way faster than they speak, I'd like to be able to click to shut them up and go to the next line instead of being stuck there with my only option to skip the entire thing. Due to this I virtually ignore the npcs other than ones I need to talk to for the story.

Just glad I didn't buy it, and used origin access to try it out, I dodged a bullet here. I've also never played destiny so just getting that out there before you think I am a fan of destiny.
Yup I could not agree more with this. The gameplay is okay, but performance mucks it up quite a bit unless you are on a 1080 Ti + I would say. I am on a 1070 gtx and games with far better graphics stay at 60 all the time for me. (This game generally hovers around the 40s, with some heavy areas in the 30s and occasionally gets 60 indoors) I posted a quick review of this yesterday in the other Anthem thread on connection problems and just gonna add some more here to what this guy is saying.

The loading is absolutely insane. This is the usual formula for a mission in the game: Interact with an NPC in the (sub 30 fps most of the time VERY POORLY OPTIMIZED) town, skip through the terrible dialogue by mashing escape over and over, go to your loadout bay thing, load screen, equip your gear that you got from last mission often times being overwhelmed at the simple yet overly complicated itemization system in a bad ui, (is this item better then that item? i dunno i guess i will just grab a higher ilvl in this slot) exit the loadout bay thing, load screen back to town, get into javelin with an obnoxious animation that you need to skip every time for your own sanity that likely hides another load screen, use the overly complicated mission launching ui to load into a mission, load for a long time especially if the mission you picked has someone with a slow computer, (lowest speed player's computer you match with determines load speed) do mission that takes maybe 15-30 minutes, load any time you get out of range of player furthest towards objective for 20 seconds or so, load for cutscenes, load for any area transitions, finish mission, deal with annoying stats screen by holding escape to skip a screen then spam escape again cause one held escape is not enough, load town again, load back into your annoying bay to start salvaging / equipping upgrades in the worst ui ever created for a pc version of a video game, (maybe) do it all over again.

So incase you weren't counting, that is something like 11-13 load screens that range anywhere from 5 seconds to 25+ seconds to do ONE mission. This is also on the missions without more then 1 cutscene. Some have more then that and each time you watch it you have to reload the level again while waiting for the player with the lowest speed computer to load.

So yeah, I mean, the gameplay is fine and dandy. It is pretty fun, but there are SO MANY problems with the game. I seriously doubt most of this...maybe barely any of it, will be fixed by next week.

People want to label things as things they already know so those things are more easily understandable to them.

Some of the problems Ive had with other players is that they are bad at the game because they are playing it wrong because they are trying to play Anthem as they would Destiny or Warframe.

They do not utilize the gameplay mechanics of Anthem to its fullest extent because of this. Ive seen people not using their abilities, not using Combos, not using the Dash to evade, not using the flying for mobility, sitting on their Ultimates and on and on and on.

This gives them a negative impression of the game and then they come on message boards to complain endlessly.

But, really, none of this is new or unique to Anthem sadly.

Nintendo had a very Solid nintendo direct this week dont dragonquest builders2 with coop :)
I was even more surprised that Hellblade is coming to the Switch tbh. That will be some true wizardry if it works properly.

    /Cheers,
    Lahnmir
Hellblade was actually an easy bring over to the Switch. The port really required no additional work compared to what needed to be done for the base Xbox One. The Switch is a very capable machine and UE4 runs flawless on the Switch. Which is why so many Switch games run on it and will. It has native support since UE4.16 plus it has Niagara Effects and pushes UE4 on high settings at 1080p. Very strong little machine. Proving once again it is not all about a machine's horsepower but also the software and those running that software on the machine that can make the difference.
@blueturtle13 I was wondering if I should tag you in that post because I know you were working on Hellblade. Then again, maybe you were just responsible for the portugese translation or something like that so I decided against it haha.

But great news, I think Hellblade is an absolute visual beast and one if the best looking games out there. Lets hope not too much gets lost in the transition to the Switch, it is indeed much more powerful then many give it credit for. The simple notion that power wise it runs circles around a ps3 or x360 is still unbelievable to many.

    Thanks for the response mate!

Edit: Just checked some ingame footage of Hellblade on the Switch and holy crap, many effects have been toned down but the resolution seems quite high and it looks a lot better then I expected. Now please no dynamic resolution, pretty please...

The gameplay is solid, but man from what I've seen and heard the story (characters, writing, objectives, all of it) is one huge cringe fest. The free roam is boring to me. I enjoyed the stronghold in the demo, but with only 3 of them I dont see it lasting very long. I was on the fence after demo, but I simply cant justify the price.

For me controls are very important if I find it awkward to control my character I would be hard pressed to like the game. I am glad this aspect has improved and that there is a significant improvement.

Honestly, granting that Anthem otherwise shoots itself in the foot a few too many times with some baffling design decisions, I suspect this issue is the one that will do it the most damage and it's entirely a player-created one.

People see it as a Destiny/Warframe clone, play it as such, fail miserably because it's very, very different, and blame the game.

Put simply, both Destiny and Warframe are shooters with skill systems that add flavor but ultimately don't change minute-to-minute gameplay all that much (if at all). Anthem, on the other hand, is primarily about the skill/combo system with straight-up shooting being something you do between cooldowns and almost being akin to autoattacks in a conventional MMO. The difference is apparently a bit too subtle for most, but drastic from a gameplay perspective.

imo, it really does play just like any mmo(rpg). I never thought about it as a shooter, ever.

Was paying for an Origin basic membership to play through the Solus Project, so shelled out the extra $10 bucks to give Anthem a try. The amount of loading screens in the game is ridiculous.  It reminds of Destiny 2 in a bad way.  Having to endure a loading screen just to go from Tarsis to the Forge UI needs to be corrected ASAP.  I imagine, instead, Bioware will simply give players the ability to load into expeditions and the forge from anywhere in the city, soon.

Having to load into individual areas in the middle of a mission also needs to be corrected, and they need to rethink the forced porting during some of these missions (not because I think it shouldn't exist, but the range on the feature is woefully inadequate in a game with environments scaled this large.

The shooting doesn't have the impact feel that Div or Destiny does, but like many have said, it's far more focused on using abilities via the gear you equip, and I'd like to see Bioware focus on adding new ones, along with adding new javelins.

As much as they encourage playing missions as a group, I wish there were more of a reason to do so.  The objectives never benefit from having buddies along for the ride.  You just get them done a little faster if your pals are paying attention instead of mindlessly slaughtering enemies.

The dialogue is colorful, but the male character you play is....  Well, kind of a doucher.  I get the personality they were going for: sci-fi equivalent of a real life cocky fighter jet pilot.  Only, I've been around those pilots in real life, and this guy is over the top in a way that would have those pilots very rudely and very intentionally cutting him off every time he started to make one of his somewhat-clever, but entirely vacuous, retorts.  The protagonist is like a caricature of a fighter pilot, slightly too exaggerated to be enjoyably believable.

The world, both in terms of beauty and scale of it all, are the game's saving grace.  I would, quite honestly, prefer to never go to Fort Tarsis at all; just give me a station in Freeplay Bastion that triggers that damned Forge loading screen, and have me contact the other characters by radio to pick up missions that would, again (I'm sure), trigger a mission load-in screen once I got to general mission start area.  And that's the biggest downfall of the game: it forces you to spend way too much time away from simply flying your javelins and engaging in exploration or combat.

That's kinda the vibe I got. Fort Tarsis is chore and the stories are terrible and executed poorly. I'd rather take a generic city hub where I see other players. group up and go jump out into the game world.

The loading screens are absolutely annoying too.

The game is all about combo'ing cool downs. The actual guns are just stat sticks outside of the sniper rifle with the splash damage (that thing seems actually useful).

Are there any Ranger players who know what other types of support skills he ranger has access too?

I haven't selected the Ranger, opting for Collosus and Intercept so far, instead.

I will say in general, the flight controls seem much better than they did in the demo, and I didn't need to do much more in the way of tuning controls to get them to an acceptable state.

I think it would've been objectively more fun to have the player remain in Bastion Freeplay and have the other characters chatter with you on the radio (or, better yet, find places for them exist in the Freeplay world).  It's currently all too sliced up into: "Load, now you're here.  Wanna head there/do that?  Load."  That's probably the biggest con it has, in my opinion.

EDIT- I will say that, while the meat of the story does seem fairly straightforward (and not incredibly fleshed out- the people turned on Freelancers completely after one failed mission the Freelancers earnestly gave their lives to try and complete, but the game seems completely ignorant of the fact that this fickle attitude makes the people of Bastion pretty big assholes), the character animations when speaking to folks like Owen or Faye are well-done, if a little repetitive sometimes.  And the voice acting is pretty damn good.  However, again, it lacks the oomph you'd expect from that because there seems to be a lot of lore and story loose ends the game never recognizes exist, much less attempts to explain or rectify.  Granted, I'm not all the way through it obviously, but there's not even acknowledgement given to how fickle the people are for completely abandoning their "heroes" after one failed mission.

Loading screens, the bane of my existence. I remember playing Morrowind on the original xbox and it took about 4 minutes to load every single time, when you died etc. Then when the next gen was around the corner I was getting all excited, thinking about how 90% of the loading screens would go the way of the dodo. I got lens flare instead....
