LAN parties are an exciting opportunity for gamers to come together, play their favourite games and socialise with other like-minded people. They provide a fun, safe space for gamers to connect, make new friends and share their passion. However, for a first-timer, a LAN party can be a daunting experience, particularly if you don’t know any other gamers attending. Check out Ballistix Global Esports & Gaming Marketing Manager Patrick Soulliere's thoughts.

I miss having lan parties. But at this point in life all my friends who I had them with live in different states, so I'm just glad the internet exists.

I clicked on this expecting it to be one of those long lost articles from 10 years ago that somehow find their way to the front here now and then.

What do I know though... I guess Lan parties are still a thing or maybe they're just coming back sort of like bell bottom jeans?

Yes gamers we have to tell you to meet new people! So true.

Don't excessively scream and shout...mum may put up with it, people you meet wont.

Don't play with another player's PC while they are away...unless you want to lose a hand that is.

    Top tips :)

There has only ever been one game i would consider for a lan and that game would be ruined by lan pings.

When i spent everyday playing UT99,it was amazing fun,99% were all on 56k,it was calculative, thinking, strategic combat.Soon everyone had DSL it veered it's ugly face, weapons op,kills so fast you could throw strategy out the window,it became more like a crappy ARPG just spam away.
I could only imagine how bad the combat would have been on a lan,i watched lan play, did not care for it at all because the combat became very predictable and more like see u first, your dead.
Point being, never wanted to play a lan.

Now watching TCG's played on a lan i still feel no need other than to thwart cheating.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I don't really think so. Back when games had servers that could run offline for LAN-based play, these were amazing. But since many games moved their servers into the internet, the best experiences for the players is usually to have each at their own residence so they don't all choke the same bandwidth.

    LOL

I would bring my gamer laptop, power cord, wireless mouse and headphones. I'm too old and curmudgeony to lug my PC around.

    -Start setting up the network.

-Start fixing my video card compatibility issues.
-Start fixing other people's network card issues.

    -Marcus forgot his monitor.
    -Richard forgot his mouse.
    -Shane brought a Macintosh...

    -End up at a bar.

I'm pretty sure i was a Richard type at some point in lan parties (I could swear I brought it with me!) and we appreciated your efforts :P

There is a ton of lan parties still, look around where you live near your big cities, you might be surprised to find one.  There's one in Indiana annually that I know of and a buddy of mine runs the Counter-Strike tournament for it.

Most aren't actually using LAN in the traditional sense, it's more of a gathering and community hang out.  It's funny cause you will see people watching NetFlix and it's like can't you just do that at home?
