If progression servers are you bailiwick, you may be interested to note that Funcom is planning an Anarchy Online progression server in 2019. According to the game's Facebook page, "Anarchy Online's 2019 server invites you on a voyage across space...and time! Start fresh with original content from launch, then experience additional expansions and level caps over time. Coming soon!"

Please, Funcom, bring the old Secret World back ... it was amazing. The setting/lore is unique. People are tired of fantasy themed MMORPGs and you can see it dying. If you only find a solution for the faction imbalance during PvP and keep updating the game with fresh ideas, I will be one of the first to dive head first. I really hated what you did with SWL ... you took out the complexity and the soul of the game and what remained is a husk of its former self. Watching how people dived into ATLAS and swallowed all those failures they did made me realize how gamers are starving for the next WoW/big thing. If DUNE is going to be on par with TSW I might give it a shot but honestly I am reluctant with your past decisions.
    Peace

Anarchy Online still to date has one of the deepest character progression systems available , betwen skills /gear/implants its a really great system with so many options, I still jump into AO every year for a 3 months or so , and will be joining the new server should be fun .

"Join humanity nearly 30,000 years in the future in a world of perpetual conflict and scientific marvel."

..yes, because 30k years into the future, there will still be some "heroes| who will use a .. Hammer to "punch" his enemies.

    Makes sense..

Anyway , I remember I tried AO in .. 2005? Didn't like it back then and I will surely not like it today.

    Good luck .. I guess!

Well, who knows... from what we already know, hammers are still widely used as weapons 40k years into the future :)

They updated the engine a few years ago, and added a new starting area. The last time I considered playing there was some exploiting going on with players having unlimited money, and lvling up like crazy, have they fixed that problem? I understand Funcom is going a bit better these days, maybe they've put some people  back on the game?

Anarchy Online was a pretty bad ass game back in the day. I love Sci-fi so that probably helped a bit. I don't know how you couldn't like it back in 2005 though. I understand how someone could feel like that today though.

Sadly the graphics are still 18 years old, or else I'd pick it back up for a little bit out of nostalgia. To bad no one has really done a modern version of this kind of MMO. If I heard whispers of an long over do sequel, I might get excited. Unfortunately the age of the true MMO has mostly passed.

The game was pretty cool played a couple years of it before going to TSW. Now I'm hooked on SWL. The AO players look like the Microsoft Help stickfigures from win 95/98 LOL. :)

The game received a new graphics engine upgrade. Honestly, I feel it looks a full generation better than it did previously, especially when comparing the old engine vids to the new and even against SWG vids.

This may still not be enough for some, but then again, it was never a game for the masses to begin with.

I'm very interested, but I have a major concern: the cash shop.

The recent Funcom Twitch promo for this wasn't ready to talk about the full details. I have no interest in playing a fresh server, old school MMORPG with a cash shop reflective of their current servers. They hinted of it being limited to a degree, but I'll wait for the details before committing.

They are using their current patch level mechanics, much the same way as Lotro just did for their own fresh servers. I'm not sure if this will impact the experience at this point.

Yeah, I'd like to play through this server the hard way, with people. Grinding 2000 tokens does suck for the 12th time, so I get why the cash shop is nice.

On this server, they'll need to dial it back with the cash shop.

Vanilla grind won't be bad, but when AI XP and Research hits, yikes!

I'm going to just roll my top 3 favorite professions this time around. 1 solo, 1 raid support, 1 pvp until they release Shade. lol

Sadly Docs suck. I can't die, but I can't kill anything either. I rolling one anyways because they are too fun and I am a dummy.

    Back on point:

Limit the cash shop to cosmetics
Address Agents CH AS (without killing the profession)
    Limit multiboxing
    Fix any exploits/dupes
A shared bank -OR- Larger bank space since we won't have froob bank alts (which will be another issue) -OR- make NO DROP twinking items account bound so we can mail bags (not individual items) to ourselves.

I'm still going to play even if they do none of that stuff, but it would be great if they did.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I still recall taking my Trader I think the class was to the fields looking for a leet to drain and then equip my shotgun from the upgraded stats.

I still recall after only having played games like Asheran's Call and Everquest I try this game and am amazed by their skill system and the way you advanced your characters buying those syringe looking skills. Every aspect of this game from the unique classes like Metaphysicist, Fixer and Engineer to the grid travelling system made me goggle. I so loved this game.

Yes I would play on a progression server for sure.

I remember on launch day, we were all trapped in the Backyard. lol I wonder if they'll re-create that for old times sake.

I've really enjoyed AO over the years....The character building is the best ever with implants and other stuff......Like many, I would prefer a new 2.0 rather than a replaying the original...The only thing  iwould like about starting over from the beginning is losing the dailies, which made the missions worthless.
