Do you guys post reviews on Steam and Amazon . . .

CryomatrixCryomatrix Member EpicPosts: 3,223
I've never left one review for any game on steam. I've never left a review on Amazon. I think it is because I'm lazy or I never feel too strongly about anything to respond or leave a review. I also don't think I'd be a good reviewer for a game.

So if you do post reviews on Steam and Amazon, why? and how do you get over the block?

Also, i'd just like to remind everyone how excited I am about Path of Exile new league coming out on 3/8/19. I'll be mentioning it with every one of my subsequent posts.

Unfortunately I might be skipping the new league,  seems a couple in my group have subpar PCs and can't run the game.

They are going to play on XBOX1 and apparently POE has no cross platform play.

    Weird.

I've left a few on Amazon, usually for products that had a mixture of bad and good reviews and I completely disagreed with the bad ones when I had the item myself. I mean for anything though, not just games.

I leave a lot of movie and TV reviews on IMDB.. I used to want to get into the film industry as a video editor and spent years studying production and broadcast journalism so I have an invested interest about that kind of thing, even though I didn't try to get into the industry in the end lol.

Xbox is not as fun as PC, well in reality, as long as you don't trade, it doesn't matter, but I thought the game ran well on PC. Did they turn down the settings? What are they running, DOS computers?

When your friends aren't looking, play it on PC.

    my in-game name is Cryomatrix5.

I just read the full patch notes . . . OMFG, this game is so amazing, i want to ditch my family this weekend to play. They just made my preferred starter build that i made myself become fucking amazing. I may actually do a build and post it for once in my life.

I couldn't play PoE long term without the loot filters on PC so I'll never even give it a go on console.

Well Amazon is a monopoly i don't intend to support ever so never used the service.
Steam ...I have posted reviews, their policy is you must own the game which is a double edged sword,it is like saying the ONLY way you are allowed to have an opinion is if you own the gamee which undermines the very definition of OPINION.

So what Steam's agenda is doing is protecting it's partners because once you already spent money on the game,it is TOO LATE to matter.
Of course we have seen Steam/Valve's agenda for quite some time, ever since they removed the greenlight and just allowed EVERY single piece of crap to advertise on it's platform.I mentioned it before, there is a game on Steam called "Shower with Your dad"give or take a word.Right there says they have no brain in their head outside of $$$$$,typical of the entire industry right now.

I leave reviews if I have something to say.  But steam frustrates me because there's apparently no way to tell them you already own a game from a different source, so I can't review some of my old favorites.  Apparently people find my reviews of local restaurants and bakeries on google more helpful than any of my reviews elsewhere though - I get way more likes +useful there.

For games never, for products I do (on Amazon) in extreme cases (extremely good or extremely bad).

I used to participate in specific game forums but I learned very quickly those are only for mindless boot licking or maintaining positive appearances while things are going awry. I don't have the temperament in those situations.

Are you seriously complaining that Steam won't let you review a game unless you've actually played it? If so, wow.

I post short reviews on Steam. I know I appreciate it when others give their take on a certain game, so I try to add in when I can.

That's right, Steam won't let you review a game if you haven't played it through Steam.  Bought it from anywhere else, borrowed it from a friend, rented it if there's still anywhere you can rent games... they don't care, you don't count.

How would they even know you “borrowed it from a friend”.  Let’s be realistic here.   Folks that are going to review a game should really be ones that have played it.   Restricting reviews to confirmed purchases just seems smart.   You can always go and post your review for a non-steam purchase on whatever website/store you bought it from.  If that site doesn’t allow reviews take it up with them.

Goodreads does just fine allowing reviews from anyone who wants to write one, while Steam gets some terrible-quality reviews from people who have purchased the game through them.  But really it's not the inability to review that bothers me so much as the fact I can't even click a check-box to mark the game as one I'd like to include in my "show me more like this" data.  It's frustrating to go to a game I've put more than 300 hours of play into and see "this doesn't look like other games you've played" (meaning "we don't recommend this type of game to you") and I can't do anything to fix that.

I rarely do. The few times I have left a steam review is when I really enjoyed a game. The only time I left a negative review was when a game just didn't work. Like Marvel's Ultimate Alliance. Which no matter what I did or how many different controllers I tried, would not work properly. My review was only to inform others that they could possibly experience the same problem. I never leave a review for a game I didn't enjoy. I find that pointless.

9/10 times, if I do, It's a complaint.  I'm never fair to the games that really blow me away, I usually comment on the ones that severely let me down.  But it has to be beyond let down. It has to be abandoned or considered complete, but just broken, that no amount of patches could fix it.

    Spacebase DF-9 level of broken.

I've never played this upcoming Rape Fantasy game on Steam, but I'm clearly of the opinion it would be utterly worthless to do so.

Some things you just know are a bad idea,  like eating shit, no need to actually do it to form an "educated" opinion.
