It deserves an 8 i think. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game. But the de-levelling is the stupidest thing i've ever seen and the controls are pretty messed up.
Getting that out of the way, pretty much everything else is a blast. I think it deserves a nice solid 8. Because comon... If FFXI is a 10 what will EQ2, WoW,UXO,L2 and other games be?
Controls on this game are flawless, but you have to take the time to learn how to take advantage of them. Learn the keyboard shortcuts, set your macros and let go of the mouse, then the controls will become second nature. You only de-level if you drop below 0 in your current exp, I have only ever delevled once and was back up within 15 minutes. You have to be penalized for dying some how and I would take losing exp over searching for my body for hours or I'll lose my stuff. IMO this game is flawless and innovative, it is not just another EQ clone and that is why ppl don't want to like it.

Ok I was exagerating when I said the game was flawless, but the controls IMO are. I think they are very intuitive and become quite natural once you get the hang of them. The only real gripe i have about the game is the world pass bs, it just an unnecessary extra step to get to play with my friends on the same server.

FFXI is one of my favorite MMORPGs. They fixed a few problems that I had with other MMORPGs in the past. Before FFXI I played EverQuest and when I switched I found FFXI much more enjoyable. Two things from EQ that I believe have been changed for the better are MP regeneration rate and the auction system.
In EQ I play a cleric and an enchanter. Mana recovery was so slow for me I couldnt take all the down time due to me having no mana. Even as an enchanter with clarity II (never got up to KEI) it wasnt enough. It defiantly helped, but down time was more than I would have liked. With FFXI I hardly have to sit for white mages and when a group has to sit for MP recovery; it doesnt take too long.
The other big improvement from EQ would be the selling system. EQ only had a bazaar. A player would have to go to the bazaar and sit around for hours, or over night to sell a few items. Nothing could be down in the time period a player was selling. I personally never sold anything at the bazaar because I felt like it was a complete waste of time. FFXI offers this system to players who wish to sell items themselves or an auction house were a player can put an item up for sale and then return to check on the sale status when a free period between groups or fights arises.
Just a couple things I can think of off the top of my head as to why I enjoy FFXI more than MMORPGs I played in the past. TTyL TTFN!
FFXI is a great game, but not flawless. I don't think any game is. The controls are a bit difficult and deleveling sucks, but it is one of the best games around, not the best.
Comments
nooo!
lower it!
Final Fantasy XI
Server: Shiva
Region: Bastok
Character: Ramsez, lvl 21 WAR
Instead of lowering other games ratings, lets just give FFIX the rating it deserves, all 10s.

FFXI flawless! ROFL....damn that's funny. FFXI has its share of problems just like every other MMORPG.

Killer 86%, Socializer 53%, Explorer 33%, Achiever 26%
