you might as well say ill skip to the last chapter in a book or the last 10 minutes of a film .Leveling for me anyway is the best part of an mmo and i wish there were more that took time to level ,i believe it is why a lot of people are looking forward to pantheon they know its going to take time to level its part of the journey and also keeps people logging on to gain a few more levels so they grow and become more powerful, i cant really see what the op has to complain about in most mmos leveling is very fast and as you have said there are several mmos where you can start with a max level character anyway. and honestly if you play the same game as me and you start with a max level character and i start from level 1 i will not be bothered at all

Levelling is actually the most fun I have. I hate it when people try to get me to speed level because it takes away my fun of working through the zones and experiencing the difficulties without artificial buffs. I love doing content with everyone else and doing dungeons not buffed up the wazoo with no challenge.

How is Gw2 doing? Yeah...The only people don't want any kind of leveling are those that want instant gratification. Most are casual fps players that just want to kill others. Now a game can't have stupid level amounts of grind like darkfall online or linage unless the rest of the game is equally fun or there is enough content to justify it.

When I was beta testing in SWTOR the last phase of the test of to be given a high level character to try out.  I logged in on the character, which had a companion, which we had never seen before, in a high level area.  I was lost.  Even with quests guiding you, starting a high level right away in a high level area can be a challenge.  Normal leveling breaks you in gradually and slowly gets you use to your skills and abilities and introduces you to that world.

It would be like someone quitting a game I had never played before and giving me their account with all their high level characters.  Sometimes if I've haven't played a game in a long time I make a new character and level it until I get use to the game again.
I play Revenant in GW2.  Guess how my Revenant got to level 80.

I learned the class just fine as a level 80 day 1. Being max level doesnt somehow stop you from learning how the class works. You still have the same community of people that provide tips and advice on how to play. Been like this for years now with the age of all these forums and game site guides.

One thing I learned, level grinding doesnt necessarily teach you how to master the class you play.
Me playing a Paladin in Vanilla WoW for years and suddenly 10 new levels get added, doesnt mean the player that's level 70 is more skilled at the class than I am at level 60. This was one of the things that made me wake up to seeing the illusion of this level grind. I myself use to be against not having lots of levels. GW1. Although not a MMO, had only 20 levels I believe.  I thought that was crazy back then. Then I experienced the level cap increase in WoW and realized how artificial it all is just to keep people busy,  when all that level content  that gets added for 60-69 could have been all new level 60 content with new rewards to unlock.  Instead 1-69 content I will likely never touch again since its obsolete to a max level.

But some people like level grind. Do you. I just want the option to skip it.

I did the same thing but after leveling all the other classes I knew exactly where to go and what to do.  I like having the option to skip leveling especially if I've done it around eight times already.

I prefer something simple like this in MMORPG
able to equip 100% of gears at level 1
able to play 100% of the game contents at level 1

it's annoying me when i have to grind boring contents while people have heck of fun playing good contents
well just think how much more you will enjoy the "good contents" by working for it rather than having it handed to you. . .
Then what will happen when you spend all of the work and at the end there are no good content for you but waiting for age to get someone run a raid with you ?

That's why people jump to MOBA and BR . Because you can play without being lock out from main content

We talking about multiplayer game here , not some single player .
I don't see how playing by one's self or with other people makes any difference. . .

but it sounds like MOBAs and BR games are more to your taste, so why not go play what you enjoy?
And let us who like leveling in MMOs enjoy that. . .

Here is "don't like it don't play it" . And when you say you "don't see any difference" between singleplayer and multiplayer , i even doubt you were played MMOs or not .
God . I swear i want to pass your bail post so badly but i have to say some thing
It's like saying go play Destiny if all you care about leveling and gear.  The funny things that the easiest MMORPG to emulate is a themepark because you don't need always online world to do coop PvE RPG stuff.

Well. despite the doom and gloom of the layoffs, GW2 has been doing quite well according to their quarterly reports.

Also, GW2 was plagued with a lot of bad design decisions in their later development of the game, with HoT being near a death-kneel flop to them. GW2 is really a great cautionary tale of not trying to change direction mid-game, and go from a casual's haven to trying to be more hardcore.

Its possible for games to make separate tracks so you dont need 40-140 hours of pve to rvr/pvp.

Nobody makes you pvp before you pve, but the opposite is almost always true.

You call it a level grind, I call it a journey.

Leveling + time required is not the problem I have. It's that in most games the zones used for levelling aren't being used for endgame. Meaning empty zones.

Leveling + open world PvP is something I dislike. When levelling you're basicly the entertainment for some others.
Leveling method has nothing to do with content or the journey.  ESO uses the same method for progression a horizontal progression game would.  You just wouldn't have the issue of leveling up to become competitive in PvP.

    say what...it doesn't?

So if you are force fed a DIRECT path of linear gameplay that does not affect your journey?I think you should think about that statement again.
Pvp is something that should remain out of rpg's because NOBODY knows how to do it right,it has pretty much been as simple as flag players for pvp and that is the extent of their thought process.

Ok flag this zone and flag that zone but not this zone, yeah SUPER LAZY developers. So if your not going to do pvp well keep it out.

The word used in the title "only"is misused so i'll fix it.

i ONLY like grind if it is done very well.If you are simply giving me a super slow leveling grind to get me to buy your +25% xp bonus potion from the cash shop, your game is going in the dumpster AND the lid is getting welded shut.

If your game has literally nothing going for it so you figure you can simply keep me around longer to spend more money by giving me a grind or three,again..DUMPSTER bin.

It is a singleplayer PvE, let be honest. 80% of ESO is not a multiplayer game.
Yes and in this instance I wish I could turn the players off. But oh well.

If the game was less quest based it could have been more multiplayer. Just have players go out into the world like Morrowind or Skyrim. But they made an Elder Scrolls game that was viewed through the lens of MMO mechanics which, to them and the World of Warcraft generation, means lots of quests.

    Different strokes for different folks.

I have read the majority of this thread, minus the people I consider loons and therefore I don't read anything they have to say and it all boils down to different strokes for different folks.

I can see why people would want to skip the parts of a game they are not interested in, I can also understand why people consider level grinding a journey. For me, it depends on the game. I actually, believe it or not, enjoyed leveling in L2. I had a good group of people I played with and we would hang out and BS all night while doing the same thing over and over. It was fun. In many other games, I have disliked the level grind so much I won't play them.

I guess it comes down to the game and the people you play said game with as to how much the level grind is worth it or not. I do, however, tend to agree that if you are going to have PvP in an RPG game then it is a good idea to have a PvP leveling system that runs parallel to the PvE grind.

At any rate, for the people that enjoy the PvE grind, why would you care if someone skips it? Do you believe that having them around you will enhance your enjoyment of the game? I doubt very much it will, people that perceive themselves as being "forced" to do anything, generally try to make everyone one else as miserable as they are.

How is Gw2 doing? Yeah...The only people don't want any kind of leveling are those that want instant gratification. Most are casual fps players that just want to kill others. GW2 is just fine, gross generalization isn't.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

    You bet your sweet bippy!

If I'm leveling, you better be, too. I want to play the same game as everyone else, not some "version" to suit each individual wants.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

While I realize that was probably a moan about the lack of such games, I think that the reason for it is that such games, no matter how highly desired, are actually not very much fun and lose audience very, very, quickly.
