Assuming it had innovative and deep gameplay with a non-P2W business model, could you get over such a game having 2D graphics, either isometric or Gauntlet-style topdown?
if Diablo 3 and POE, Grim Dawn are considered 2D then absolutely
Of those I've only played POE but based on screenshots I just looked up of the other two it seems that they're all just 3D with a fixed camera. 2D would be more like the original Ultima Online (1997) or Gauntlet (1985).
Yes. I don't care about dimensions or graphics. I care about gameplay and systems. As long as it was a solid actual mmorpg and didn't try to evolve into some hipster crap for kids I don't care if a game is 2d.

yes of course.
It doesn't matter if it is 2019 or 2099, a style is a style and art design is art design.
A movie from the 30's is still great, it just presents itself in a different way.
Music from the 15th century is still great, it just follows different rules/conventions (which then evolved closer to what we have today)
They just advertised this game and I will be there day one:
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I've played MapleStory, Dofus, Gaia Online/zOMG, and half a dozen 2D virtual pet sites. I would easily play more, but I specifically dislike top-down graphics, since one of my requirements in an MMO is an appealing clothing system.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story. So PM me if you are starting one.
Although there are a few really good games like Stardew Valley that do work well with 2d, i can't help but feel that the game would have gained a lot more if the developer had gone more 'My time in Portia' by using a 3d game world, honestly if they remastered Stardew Valley in 3d i would buy it again without any hesitation, i have already bought it twice, once on PC and also on the Kindle Fire
I love 2D and sprite art work, so yes. Also, Madworld, Dofus, Tree of Savior. In the right hands it can look stunning and sometimes I even prefer it to 3D (looking at you Blazblue).

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

If it were the game I want, and it was a great game, I'd play isometric. I don't like top down. I still want good graphics, though. I don't care what type it is, I don't like uninspiring graphics.
I missed out on Ultima Online back in 1999 because of it's 2D isometric graphics. I went to EQ instead with its 3D graphics.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
I already play Dofus for years now and I'm waiting for the Mad World a 2d mmorpg. If I had a decent official server I would still be playing Ragnarok Online today. I don't care about the graphics as long as the game is good and has a fluent gameplay.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I do play 2D games like PoE and SC 2 but otherwise, 3D all the way, PoE would be secks if it was in 3D.
