I wonder why people don't rage at MTG like they do other games with loot boxes?

maybe because when magic started is was a mild thing, and you could resell the cards, some cards value would be a lot more then the price of the booster, try to resell a loot box item for real cash, most are bound to account and companys don't support such things

In 26 years of playing and collecting MtG, I've rarely bought a booster box that had a card value that was less than the cards in the box.  There have been some here and there, but generally the value of the cards in the box exceeds the price of the booster box.

The three War of the Spark booster boxes I bought this month for $90 each, contained no less than $130 worth of cards in each of them.

No only that, but I own them.  I can own them forever if I so choose.  The company isn't going to show up at my house and take them from me, or ban my digital account because they don't like my political leanings or anything else.

If I want to sell them 20 years from now to Billy Bo Bob who thinks he's Billy Jean, then I can.

I don't get it. Why is this a role model for anyone? Because they tried hard and won? Who cares. That is every champion of every game. Are we to see articles of every person who wins a tournament that isn't even an MMORPG?

I think this is more about the champions identity and views rather the win itself. Just ignore and move on to stories that matter to you.

I quit MTG several years ago because it got too expensive and adding the plainswalkers geared the game too much towards singular cards.
I somehow got fished into hearthstone where you cannot simply go with 2 colors and build a great deck, there are 9 classes to build, way too costly.

learn at your own pace..lol,not a bit of truth to that.By time you learn that set there is a new set out to learn. You have to learn EVERYTHING,you must know what is coming from your opponents decks, you must understand every mechanic or you will simply be spending a ton of money to lose.
MTG designs do NOT sit around and WAIT for you to build up decks for free, you will be so far behind and then again a NEW meta arrives where you start all over again.

TCG's are way more about making money than delivering the best possible card game.SOE showed us the beginning of what could be great if expanded on.Since that game and Smedley folding up shop on all his games, nobody has come close to that same effort, perhaps Duelyst is the next best thing.

Gaming is always a popularity contest,MTG of HS might be second fiddle to Duelyst, but they are more in the spot light, popular streamers, more money so they are more popular. If ONE set would last 2-3 years, maybe and just maybe but as is TCG's are not worth investing in.

And I didn't even realize that there were more than 1 "set" of cards. Seems like an extremely expensive hobby.

MTG used to be pretty good, honestly though its 'golden age' was more than a few years ago, must be a decade or so since i played, but i still have all my cards from back then, its mostly nostalgia factor that has kept them from the dumpster, or maybe i am just a hoarder  :p
It used to be a great game but WotC have run it into the ground :/
