I logged back into DDO for the first time in 4 years, because my Static decided that they wanted to play again.

I got 2 party invites to do a TR run, and a request to join a raid... and this was before I could figure out why I had a level of Wizard in what looked like a Monk/Fighter build..

anyway.. yes.. joining a guild or social network does make a huge difference.

Turned out, my Static explained to me that I was testing out some kind of Kesni/EK build, before I left (I was testing out a build on a 6th life toon) but could not tell me if I was gonna go monk, fighter, or wizard in the end.. or maybe just go for a racial feat.. I'm still 'deciding' on that one as I re-learn the game.

The point is not about spending money, but no one will spend money when the game is easy and dead.  Guilds wouldn't help you if your level 5 and just passing through and possibly thinking about it.... You will still be alone !

If no one will spend money on easy and dead game, no one would pay subscription also.

But quite honestly, people are more helpful on dead(small population) game.  Top guilds work much harder in niche game to help it's player out since it is much harder to recruit long time player.

Not to mention people like to call wow, gw2, eso those type of game easy game, and those type of themepark game have much more population than other type of mmorpg.  Also since it is easy anyway like you said, you probably don't need helps anyway.  (until you reach max level and have to raid)

My problem with P2P is when MMO's become older than dirt and are in maintenance mode like Anarchy Online Funcom still has the nerve to ask for a full monthly fee and people defend them for it.

They will just change loot boxes to a  "pay to quest" random loot roll. Basically you drop $5 to run a crappy quest line, or play virtual ring toss where you are guaranteed  an exclusive loot drop from a list of crap.

A Static, in the MMO sense, often refers to a fixed group of people that play together. IE: A Static Group, as opposed to a bunch of Rando's grouping. AKA: a Static Group as opposed to a PUG.

Often, when people use the term Static, as opposed to Guild Group, or Team, or something along those line, it denotes a tight knit kinship of gamers that play with each other even across various games. These can be real life Friends, Family, or just people that they have been playing together for a very long time and have formed a friendship that spans beyond any single game. As opposed to say which one of the various kinds of comradery that have formed among them Staic is pretty much all anyone outside the group needs to know. ;)

    Does that answer your question?

Static was made me leave FFXI in the end. I played  a Red Mage/White Mage and this combination was in great demand and I actually could literally log on and be in a group in 15 minutes. I made the mistake of joining a static that required me to log on at a certain time and stay for 4 hours minimum. I simply got very tired. At that time the buffs lasted so little time I even had a ringer tone so I knew when I had to recast the buffs. I was so tired of playing and I just couldn't keep the schedule being a housewife with kids.

One day I logged in and literally just deflated like a balloon and cancelled my sub that very day and I never went back. You know I really loved that game so very much but that group killed that game for me. They were not at fault of course they just wanted a regular means of gaining experience since you need an optimum make up they organised it and had rules.  I just could not shoulder that responsibility in the end.

There are various kinds of Statics, in your case, it was a game based Static group as opposed to just PUGing, which is very common.

Sorry you burned out, but ya know, you could have just left that group and found some other guild/clan/group to run with.

This post is so comical... it's really a matter of perspective.

Back in the day, you could buy a cup of coffee for like ten cents a cup... free refills.  They served you at a table, you didn't stand in line waiting to be served.

Fast forward to now, coffee runs you about three dollars a cup... no refills.  You stand in long lines waiting to be served.

Both are the norm for their times.

Vinyl records used to be the norm.  Now it's digital downloads or streaming.  Again, product of the times.

Paying a sub used to be the norm.  Get over it.  Bitch until the cows come home.  Reality is, the market they are serving is perfectly fine with it.

Hello Starbucks drinking, digital streaming, nose piercing, sleeve tatttooing, e-vaping, <put in just about any other fad here> millennials.  This world is just for you!

MMORPGs are losing player base because the gamers have moved on to other distractions.  Doesn't matter if the game is free, cost a kidney, is awesome, or awful... times have changed.

The only thing that hasn't changed is the OPs incessant posts about it.

Similar to when you had to by a disk in the store for a new game. Everything these days is digital download unless you by a special edition boxed set, even then it comes with a keycode. Even Microsoft removed the optical drive on XB1 in favor for large storage capacity for downloads.

MOST gamer's even after 10-15 years of cash shop gaming are still blind to the whole idea of economics and business. There is no such thing as FREE ...EVER.If every single player tried to play for free the game would shut down,no question about it.

These cash shop games rely on making MORE than what is FAIR because it needs to support free loaders or as the OP mentioned,a dead game will not keep anyone around.

It really is simple math, the developer and/or it's investors want to see a certain amount of money and if they don't get it,changes are made.We saw that change within Trion trying to sell $100 loot boxes<<,outrageous.
No matter how many more years pass,we will still see those claiming "i play for free"NO you don't,your game is paid for by others,if they stop paying, you have NOTHING.

When someone logs in for free and sees the world empty, they will not pay for anything.  It doesn't matter how good of a deal it is. It doesn't help when a base game is "easy and mindless" this makes it boring.... After 3 hours, uninstall !

Now that I have the main topic out of the way, let me explain:
Someone resurrected a post I made over a year ago on the Lotro forum.  The topic goes off on different paths such as Value packs and how to get the most for your money.  It also suggest joining one of the many high end Guilds.

I SAY NO !.... This goes for all F2P

-It has nothing to do with value !
-It has everything to do with grabbing your attention !

A F2P game will not grab anyones attention.  Joining a high end guild will never help the situation.

    A common misconception:
Your all alone in a boring easy game at level 10.  Solution, join a Guild and they all come to your aid and make the game fun....This doesn't happen EVER !... Your still all alone in a boring, easy game.  It doesn't matter how outgoing your personality is.

    Want prof ?
Log into Lotro or ANY F2P GAME and see what happens.

Lets not kid our selfs.... mmorpgs are dead for now :(

Years ago we used to sell 'boosters' that were single use items that were used up when you killed a mob. They could increase the % chance of loot drops. This was a simple consumable item, sold in the cash shop, that performed the function of the loot box,.

Just as in automobiles, ones's mileage may vary in terms of individual in game experiences.

Or are you saying every new player in the SWTOR starter area two days ago ended up in a high end guild?

Hmm, more probable is you were the only new player in the starter area....so yeah.

Sounds to me like you asked for a Guild in a global chat and it so happens their are higher levels...sounds regular standard to me.

In an easy game like SWTO republic, what questions could you need advice ?..... How do you rearrange the UI so your chat window is at the bottom left ?

Funny thing. I tried SWTOR again about two weeks ago and made a fresh character and the starting areas were full of new people and I was quickly invited into a large and active guild before leaving the starter zone full of friendly and helpfull people. I didn’t stick around as I quickly remembered why I disliked SWTOR to begin with but his experience mirrors mine.
