This is the exact reason our society is crumbling... People are allowed to speak crazy shit like this and people actually will side with them and believe them, or be paid off.
Actually, it's an example of the real reason our society is crumbling. One word. Corporations.
nah politicians do a lot more damage, corporations at least still can't force you to spend money, goverment can and do
Corporations force you to spend money. Many of them pay zero taxes that means the rest of us have to make up for that. And if a big corporation does something stupid, we have to pay for that too. If a corporation pollutes our water and air, we have to pay to clean it up (because asking corporations to be responsible for their actions is SOCIALISM).
So based on this .. Stealing money is a "Redistribution of Wealth"? It is Loot in a box ...
Surprise Mechanics are better in horror movies.
A doctor doing circumcision keep saying "Surprise! I miss"
As someone who does circumcisions, it is kind of like "surprise mechanics", it may not come out well or you may have a complication. You may take too much skin too or make it uneven, or if you have a resident do it and they screw up . . . but I'm a badass, I let parents watch me do it. I figure that I should be confident enough in my skills to do it in front of family. It's kind of silly, because there can be complications .
On another note:
One time i was talking to an employee in the hospital and she was like, "you did my son's circumcision". I was like, "Oh, how was it?". She said, "It needed to be revised".
I was like . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ."ahhh, sorry" in my mind I was like, "FUCKING AWKWARD"
Any way, they are kind of surprise mechanics, just have self control, and they won't bother you. Path of Exile has lootboxes, guess what, i don't touch them, cuz they're silly, just wait for a sale or the next league and you can get em at a reasonable price.

Maybe I should try and have trading card games regulated. I just bought a Magic: The Gathering, War of the Spark "surprise mechanic" and pulled complete garbage. I hate these pay to win games.
I don't even understand - why would they defend these boxes? It's difficult to believe they are getting substantial income from the boxes.
Loot boxes and other "surprise mechanics" (heh) make more money (and they actually factually do make more money if you ask any insider which is why corporations keep doing them) than straight up transactions for the same reason casinos do. They prey on peoples' gamblers' fallacy psychosis to get more money on average in a "The house always wins (in the long term)" kinda way.
Which is why they should have the same regulations and restrictions that casinos and other gambling establishments do.

To be fair EA has the most uninspiring boxes in the industry - either items are bland (like in recent Star Wars Battlefront) or there is way too much useless crap in them (Mass Effect Andromeda).

They make a fortune on them in FIFA. Back in March 2017 over $850M, likely even higher now.

They can go ahead and call loot boxes surprise mechanics and I'll start calling torrent sites where you can steal borrow their games, "Digital Public Game Libraries."

There are a substantial number of financially illiterate gamers, so I think they work quite fine for them.
Yea, just call it something else. Flim Flammers have been doing this for centuries. This is such an old scam, that's there's even an old saying to cover it: Don't piss on me and call it rain.
This typer of attitude just proves to me even more that EA & other gaming companies have little or no respect for their customers & just want our money. Nowadays when I see the EA logo I no longer consider buying it. Just like the argument of developing an algorithm & have it work then not to use it.

Yours for only 5 EA coins each.
That's all I got for this.

Also, Surprise Mechanics sounds like a good name for a non-profit that goes around fixing cars and other things.
