The counterpoint is that paying to skip the story of FFXIV is the antithesis of what this mmorpg is about.

Do you all recall there was this quest that was quite long to get stuff for some party some guy was throwing? Honestly would not have minded skipping that one.

I play it for the story, but most ppl nowdays just want to reach endgame asap and do raids etc.

They cba with doing a few months for just only arr story (working ppl)

Yeah, ARR is brutally long if you're actually following the quests. Even if you don't do optional side quests, it still takes a really long time to get to the next expansion.

Cool story bro. The counterpoint to your counterpoint is there are tons of reasons why this is a good option to have.....and guess what? You don't have to use it! Amazing how that works.

I remember... it turned out the player was the guest of honor for it.  I ran to the far corners of the world to gather supplies for my own party.  I'd estimate this quest represents ~75% of the MSQ in ARR.  Nowadays I just pay for the teleport but back then I had no concept of gil value and thought 200gil was a fortune.

Expansion content has been much better in this regard.

Everything leading to the moogle fight (including the moogle fight itself) was stupid and could've been removed as well as the chain that led to fighting Ramuh. Everything else was kind of meh for the most part but made since to a degree. The saving grace for me with this game is just a handful of characters unfortunately. Y'shtola is bae.

There is only one reason to use this. You want to raid endgame in a different datacenter, but don't want to move your main, who has played the whole main story quest already.

I'd love to hear your "tons of reasons".

The Story would be fine if they didn't make you click 100,000 times to get through stuff.  I paid to skip it, and when the music got too annoying for me, deleted my account.  I now people like the music in this game, but it was a big much for me, and everything sounding like it was blaringly loud.  I like a bit more contrast.  The sound track annoyed me.

Once they came out with that Eureka mess, it completely destroyed the game for me.  That was the straw that broke the camels' backs.

You can also... really not give a shit about hte story.  It's not 1999.  Immersion is over.  I just want to play the game with other people, not high level people boosted down and destroying low level content in random dungeon queues.

Plus, I don't find the story content in this game to be particularly fun to play through compared to something like World of Warcraft - but I reckon the pacing of the gameplay has a lot to do with that.

Some people just aren't interested in the story.  They just want to get past that junk and do high level content with other people.

That's a totally legit reason.  Just cause you think it's "amazing" doesn't mean it should be for anyone else.

Except there is this one word called >>INTEGRITY.I should not have to explain anything any further.
Most understand the meaning but many do not care, those do not belong in a mmorpg...ever.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Except the MSQ are mostly shit.

    -Talk to someone
-Go talk to someone 5 feet way
-Go back to the first person
-Go halfway across the map to talk to someone
-Come all the way back to talk to the first person
-Go interact with a thing a few times

They are boring, uninspired fetch quests with the occasional cool cutscene thrown in, and there are literally thousands of them to you are REQUIRED to slog through in order to unlock content.

Aren't there mmorpgs out there with less to no focus on the story? ESO is pretty great and so is BDO.

Whoa, this guy springs of arrogance and tasteless to the bone :>

To say such thing about MSQ in FFXIV is equivalent of dooming the mankind. Most of the MSQ is absolute 100% masterpiece worthy of a movie. Let me guess, your favorite game (one of them anyway) is Fortnite?

MSQ in FFXIV is the backbone of this MMO and that's why is so fascinating and so well done. Especially at the end of ARR and Heavensward. Currently is the best story telling MMO on the market. There's a reason why everything is gated behind the MSQ, but then again I wouldn't bother to explain to you since your toxicity is beyond any believe.

To any person who wants to catch up, I would advice you NOT to do any secondary quests (only those who unlock something) and the reason to skip secondary quests is because later on when you decide to level up second job (class) these quests will come in handy to boost further your exp gain.

The fact that you list ESO as having no focus on story just demonstrates how weak your opinion is on the matter.

I kind of wonder myself when was the last time you played ESO. You'd may have a point at launch, but right now the story is a fragmented mess that you can pick at any point or ignore completely.

Agree with him hating the gates nature of the MSQ and it's why I will never play this game again. MSQ also has a ton of shit gated by iLvl as well. Its pretty atrocious, IMO, and the quests aren't even that interesting.

Story started off nice but I inevitably shifted to skipping literally everything - even the cutscenes - to just "get through it."

    Not touching this expansion.

I'm not really judging but if any other MMO gated their content the way FF14 does, then tried to sell gate keys (potions) to unlock all those gates, the outrage would be heard on Mars.

I liked the story, but FFXIV is one of the few MMORPG's that requires you do every story quest to unlock the next expansion which can suck if you don't care about story. To get from Shadowbringers from level 67 took me a few days as even when I hit 70 I still had to do all of the post expansion story quests prior to the new expansion. It is very tedious when you just want to get to the new zones.
