During a recent press event, Final Fantasy XIV Executive Producer Naoki Yoshida spoke candidly about why the game is not yet on Xbox One. He does not equivocate as he explains that Microsoft has two conditions that prevent porting FFXIV to XB1 with full crossplay capabilities: First, without the ability to chat across platforms, playing an MMO is impossible. Second, players are not allowed to form a guild, link shell or free company, again making MMO play impossible.

The new CoD Modern Warfare is Cross-play with PC, PS4 and Xbox all together .... Fortnite and Rocket League are too ... All FUTURE next-gen games will be Cross-play. Period. Get the F*** Over it.
Another KEY point: Final Fantasy XI was on Xbox 360.
Why?
Because of FREE Silver Xbox Live Memberships could still play FFXI on the Xbox 360 ... there was no REQUIREMENT to pay for Xbox Live GOLD to play Final Fantasy XI on Xbox 360.
With FFXIV you will be required to have Xbox Live GOLD to play online ... Square Enix does NOT want players to pay Xbox Live GOLD and FFXIV memberships.
Square Enix owns there own servers and doesn't want Microsoft getting more Xbox Live Gold memberships for players who want to play FFXIV on the Xbox.
On the PS4, you do NOT have to have PlayStation Plus to play FFXIV, you only need to pay Square Enix the monthly fee for FFXIV.
It's that simple and Square Enix has stated this before.
Final Fantasy XI was (and still is) a much better hardcore MMO anyways. FFXIV is too kid-friendly.

This means Microsoft will be hosting all of Sony's services next-gen using the Azure Cloud
Streaming services, not all game services. SOny will surely still use their own network infrastructure for their own gameplay and store. Imagine if MS runs all online services for Sony's games and they break up relations... All PS online games will stop working. Makes no sense. This partnership is for cloud/streaming.
All Sony Services including the network, its on the Azure cloud. Read the article. F***** read kid.
"Microsoft Azure to support their respective game and content-streaming services. In addition, the two companies will explore the use of current Microsoft Azure datacenter-based solutions for Sony’s game and content-streaming services."
Sony will be on the Microsoft Azure Cloud next-gen. Accept it. This is a fact.
"the two companies will explore the use of current Microsoft Azure datacenter-based solutions for Sony’s game and content-streaming services."
YOU are the one who needs to learn how to read. It clearly says the two companies will EXPLORE... meaning nothing is set in stone... DUM-DA-DUM-DUM DUMBBBB
As mentioned by someone else,FFXI was the same and still ported so there is more to this simple excuse/statement.FFXI was very problematic for Square so i am certain they still remember that painful process that basically made them no money.
Also mentioned,FFXI is still the best mmorpg going so whatever to me,i won't be playing Wow/TESO/FFXIV anyhow.
I have very little doubt i or we will see a worthy successor to FFXI for quite some time, only Square Enix has shown the ability to make real rpg's over the years, everything else is an Arpg or questfest.
The only rpg i have played in the last year is FF3,shows what i think of modern rpg's.
Square understands the "class"system better than other devs but still FFXIV classes fail in comparison to FFXI classes.14 has a few areas that i like better but overall it still comes down to the core game play...instances and item level gear.so 14 is like Wow 3.0 but still not FFXI.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

There are no general rules within MS that prevent FFXIV from releasing there, these rules are FFXIV specific and MS probably just isn’t that interested. SE wants to put them under a bit of pressure though.

With FF14 it doesn't matter. The entire game was throttled back to suit console users (PS3/PS4), so you aren't really going to lose much playing with them. That's why the combat pacing is molasses and the PvE is designed the way it is.
