Overall I am glad they finally did something to at least one of these guys. Now if only they could do that all of them. Maybe though some will say it isn't worth it since they have decided to make an example of this guy.

I have seen murderers get less sentence than that here in the UK.

Talk about what constitutes a real crime eh?

sentence limits aside, DDOS is very much a "real" crime. It's interference in a company's operation of business.

Personally I feel cybercrime should be elevated to a much higher level, perhaps even to being capital crimes in some cases.

In our age, these crimes are very serious and need to be treated as such...These people cause millions, if not billions, in damage to businesses and individuals.

I mean the players probably suffered the most, don't see your point.

    Agree, 100%.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

I guess you missed the part where it said about how Lizard Squad was behind a bomb threat because if you had seen it I am sure you wouldn't be "torn" .

If that's true, that's more a reflection of a broken legal system in the UK than the seriousness of a DDoS attack.

Thats quite a harsh sentence for something that is not even hacking. Unless he also infected the computers that were used to do the DDOS attacks. Then it would be a different story. But if he just used 3rd party tools, then it is quite a high sentence.

His life is destroyed for what is basically blocking a public highway. Not even breaking & entry.

I am not condoning this btw. I just think that the sentence is way out of proportion if he just used a 3rd party tool to do a stupid irresponsible teenage thing.

He wasn't part of the bomb threat but he was part of the group responsible for the bomb threat on the plane and that was probably what weighed on the mind of the person passing this sentence. Deterrence being the operative objective.

The person who said murderers got lighter sentences probably meant manslaughter. I believe there are minimum sentences for murder.

It isn't true . The minimum sentence for murder in the UK is 15 years . It can easily be checked by doing a google search .

I think it might have been an exaggeration on his part to high light that he thinks some types of crime in the UK are punished with disproportionate severity to other types of crime . There might be some truth in that at least .

You can do it to anyone if you want. I can do it right now. But what's the point.

Why don't hackers ever use their nerd powers for good. You can start with adding a couple zero's to my bank account.

Imagine i wake up tommorow and I have like 13 mil in my checking account, I'd shit my pants

Ok maybe just add 1 zero and no one will notice

Just poo on DBs doorstep instead. If caught you just get a 2 year ban from the premesis. Sends the same negative message without a 27 month prison sentence.
