imageRazer Phone 2 Review: The Phone that Switched Me to Android - MMORPG.com

I’m a stalwart iPhone user. I have been since the iPhone 4, after two failed attempts at enjoying a Droid Eris and (I know) a Palm Pixi. But curiosity about the other side of the phone world has been getting to me, and when Razer offered up the Razer Phone 2 to test out and review for the site, I leapt at the chance. Worst case, I’d have a spare phone to use for games and movies. Best case, I’d make the switch to Droid with one of the most powerful handheld devices on the market. In this case, it was the latter.

If any Razer reps are browsing this thread i would totally consider buying one of your phones if you make it easy for me. What i mean by that is if you get this phone into say a cell phone provider store like at& t sprint or Tmobile i would probably buy it but im not going out of my way to get it.

One might argue that games and movies are better on an OLED display wielding device, such as a OnePlus 7 Pro. The Razer Phone 2 has an LED display - it cannot reach the contrast, brightness or color depth of many devices currently on the market, and the OnePlus device I mentioned hits 90Hz - best of both worlds.

If I could get it from my provider instead of shelling out the $500-600 dollars up front for it I would be all over it. I've had my eye on it for a while.

You consider going to a website and ordering a phone "out of your way" but feel like getting out of your house and going to an actual brick and mortar store is ordinary course?

One thing you should note is the OnePlus7 pro is 899$ cad and the razer 2 is 459$cad so....kind of an unfair comparison though I would be wary of razer as I find their products, mice at least, kind of flimsy.

I really find it hard to recommend android. Google is like San Francisco. Quick to tell others what they are doing wrong while not recognizing they live in a shit hole.
Their OS is compromised and they won't admit it.

I have no issues with Android phones and even rescued my wife from the Apple abyss about 6 years ago. I am wary of Razor products though, as they have a history of building in a flaw which makes you replace the product every other year.

Iphone haters might be the most edgy of all the tech haters. It's just a phone babe.

@BillMurphy - The specs listed forward facing speakers, how do they sound? I know most folks use headphones but sometimes on trips I've watched Netflix on my phone before bed (dont use headphones while sleeping).

"Back to the Razer Phone 2, another nifty feature it brings for the gamer is its proprietary Cortex software. Basically, this shuts down running apps and conserves battery life whenever you play a game, and then turns it all back to the defaults when you close it out. It works really well on PCs, and I was very pleased to see it on the Razer Phone 2, as well."

What is this Cortex software? I've never heard of it. Any MMORPG'ers use this?

Oneplus make really good phones, they haven't gone the route of adding the IP 67 gimmick, but then unless you're planning on squeezing your phone into your budgie smugglers when going for a swim you should be ok.

IP67 isn't a gimmick. It's a feature that you never need until the device stops working because it wasn't waterproofed or dustproofed.

it's a gimmick on phones, I know exactly what ingress protection is, 6 dust tight, i've worked on sites my entire life where there's dust everywhere n never had it cause a problem with a phone. and 7 partial submersion to a certain depth. Yeah because I often take my phone in the bath with me.

Immersion in a toilet bowl is probably the number one killer of cell phones over the years, especially for women who often carry their oversized phones in the back pocket of their jeans. (I have two daughters ....)

I've been caught in torrential rainstorms while running with my cell phone and just the regular exposure to heat, humidity, and sweat can damage them.

So yeah, water resistance is particularly important to me.

I'm using the Razer Phone 2 myself I fully agree with this.

I hardly play games on the phone but imo Razer Phone 2 just pure win if nothing else other than the fact that:

    1. It is fast
    2. It is battery efficient
    3. Most importantly, Razer don't see it as their business to put all those rubbish pre-installed programs in that you can't uninstall like Samsung and Huawei does (which is probably also part of the reason why it is battery efficient)
    4. You can root boot to the android OS without having to root hack it - which means if ever gets stuck on boot black screen you can just force it to root boot, you don't have pay a visit to the phone store.
