Money that is sold by Rockstar and loads of it will be needed, not something we should be endorsing.
This is not simply an update, this is a new angle at getting more money,so they should not be praised as the good guy delivering content, their agenda is money and only money.
How much effort does it take to make a gambling casino like building in a game...well 3-5 people about 2-3 months,so not an overly ambitious effort.
1-2 Very skilled people could pull it off in 2 months, but i assume some and the only effort was spent on working how the money will work, how much ideas will cost, like that Penthouse. So they likely spent a bit of time monitoring how much money people have saved up and went from there.
How much is content like this worth if i judge it based on my years of knowledge and if i assumed it was done AAA>>>$5.Well many devs now a days won't even sell you a cash shop pet for $5,they know how easy a target gamer's are so the prices have gone up.Easier to implement gambling ideas that need ongoing money, never mind a $5 sale when you might be able to grind 50...100 maybe 200+ dollars from some gamer's.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
At a time of increased scrutiny over lootboxes and gambling mechanics in video games, how insanely tone-deaf can Rockstar be to introduce a casino where you can...wait for it...gamble with in-game currency earned by purchasing it with real-money!?
This is no different from those iPhone/Android Casino apps. Idiots.
Ok so first off you get the DLC for free with Twitch Prime which you can get from a free trial of Amazon Prime. If you're spending real money for in-game money I feel sorry for you. Even if you have to buy the items from the new update with in-game money it won't be a big deal if you have actually played the game for a while like any other MMORPG. You can argue that it's not an MMORPG but I'm not going to listen to that. You play and acquire things the longer you play so pretty much MMORPGish game. I have $135,000,000 all made legit. The crew I'm in doesn't mod and we don't accept modded money. The only "REAL MONEY" I have spent on this game is the $30 I spent to buy it. For real, get an active crew and learn to play. If you need a crew to help you learn how to make money and survive in Los Santos then hit me up but all of this nonsense about spending real life money to play in the casino just makes you sound like a retard. There is absolutely no reason to buy shark cards for this game if you have friends and can do basic math...
What a great idea. This will give kids the option to gamble wisely. Hopefully if you lose it all you can just pull out a gun and Rob the joint also very educational for children for when they get older. Thank you Rockstar. Maybe sex ed could be the next update.
This is two fingers from Rockstar to anyone with concerns about the casino like nature of gaming today. I hope it comes to bite them on the ass as governments move to investigate the dubious business practices that are common in the gaming industry.
People are surprised? Rockstar makes Chris Roberts look like a an amateur when it comes to ways to monetize shit in their games. (although roberts has been doing it in something that isnt even a game yet so points for that I guess).
What will be interesting is to see how private servers will be able to implement THEIR mechanics and spin on it.

So Rockstar put all this effort into a new casino expansion to NOT make any money? Wow that's some savvy business practice there.
Kind of amazing how some folks are unable to see the forest amidst all of the (money) trees, eh?

Legislators move slow, Rockstar will make a fortune off of it first until and if it is ever reigned in.

For the regular game, big yikes except the story missions that will go with it. For GTA V RP it just adds more realism when that gets programmed in, which is sweet.

For those saying oh look what it will encourage the kids to do, well first off this game isn't made for kids in mind, its made for those 17 and older so if a kid is playing this game and blows money on it via gambling even when the game is 17+, then it falls on the parents and bad parenting, its not rockstars job to be the parent for someone else's child.

Loving my new penthouse. I'm selling everything I own to gamble in the casino now. Have't fed my kids and also getting evicted in a couple days because I have spent all of my real life money on this update. It's ok though. It really is that amazing. I'm only keeping my job so I can keep giving money to R* so I can keep gambling...
On the realz though, the gambling is meh. The update is meh. It is a nice addition but I really wish they would have made it so you could gamble with your friends more than against the house. Really thought it would be a blast to sit around with your friends and play poker with all the money we have made over the years. Kind of disappointing to me. The S8ORR car is pretty awesome and it's cool they added a random car per week that you can win off the daily wheel spin. The missions are also just kind of meh. It acts like it's a heist but without the heist rewards. All in all the update is so so to me. Nothing super amazing and definitely not addictive. I have already been playing other games more often so it is what it is. For real though in a game about killing people and selling drugs but you're worried about gambling addiction; you should really rethink what you're priorities are. GTA has never been about morals but if you want to complain about that, I feel like gambling should be one of the last in line from what the game has to offer. Go ahead and shoot me down some more. That's all I expect from this tryhard keyboard warrior site anyway. That's why I barely come here anymore.

Game devs rely heavily on them.
While both arguments are viable, it's the select few who refuse to understand what a compulsive behavior is. Gambling IS an addiction for some, and the fact some people aren't as susceptible to it is great, but not all humans are the same. Removing RMT from online games is about the only means to ending this discussion. Once that happens, game developers will have to find a new way to make easy money. Like going back to subscription models in which these F2P players who claim they don't spend money will be shit out of luck than, lol.
Government should get right on that, after they ban alcohol because some people are alcoholics, and smoking due to the addictive properties of nicotine.
Oh, yes, they need to ban social interaction as well due to some having social anxiety.
Funny thing though, the government, at least in Canada, runs their own gambling operations, in the form of casinos, various lotteries, and scratch tickets. They also earn a great deal of revenue from additional taxes on alcohol and cigarettes.
I wager if they find a way to apply additional taxes to loot boxes they won't be so horrible as was originally thought (as soon as they became a hot button political issue.)
In other words, governments have traditionally been more inclined to profit from addiction rather than protect addicts. I expect they will largely continue to follow suit when they feel the political benefits of the well they are currently drinking from runs dry.

In what world do you live in? If the average age playing this game is above 15 I would be shocked.

Government doesn’t profit, they go deeper in the hole every year. I would bet that the taxation they collect doesn’t cover the criminal/social costs. I pay into the seven figures every year in tax, last year was over 2 million. My way of making money doesn’t feed into addiction. Why the fuck should I and other tax payers have to subsidize the criminal/social costs of an addiction industry be it gaming or drugs. Make those industries pay their own way for the crap they cause.
Lets not forget that governments don’t have any money, they only have our money.

Except here in Canada since lots of stuff like health care is freeish they monetize bad behavior they know they can't stop to try and recoup some losses.
For example you can't just start up your own gambling business or casino, they are government owned even if in some provinces they are not government run. Also they make money off pot while making it illegal for anyone else to sell it except for them.
I have no problem with this I would rather people buy pot at SQDC, pay thier taxes, know what they are smoking rather than buy w/e off the corner street.
Same could be applied here I guess though from what I gather there no way to turn any of the "cash you gamble" in gta online into real live monies? Which mean I think they would go more with some kind of age limits.
