Honestly your not wrong. After playing the game for four hours I was having fun but it didn't blow my mind or anything with how hard it was like some people were making it out to be. Sure Mana/HP recharged slower and quest markers didn't show up on your map but thats all I noticed. Maybe its because I was a priest and not a hunter who has to worry about ammo
I believe when most people talk about how hard Vanilla is/was, its in comparison to retail/current WoW.
What im really curious about is the average age of the playerbase. I would think it would be towards older players. As I got older and have children now, i couldnt imagine being able to run 40 man raids like molten core. The time it would take since theres no mass pulling aoe everything down strats. Sure people set raid times, but i been in many guilds where it was hard to get 10-20 people show up let alone 40 at the right time. So then pugging randoms becomes a thing. So more time. Travel times....... I feel todays average youthful gamer needs instant grats, so slower leveling, unpuggable raids, heck even some dungeons! Blackrock spire....*shutters* could be a major flaw in its population.
So without the youth of today adding to the population, older players with less game time to commit to 40 man raids (yes i know some people get more time when they get older, but in my exp with 4 kids, nope hell of alot less time lol) can this really be a success? Im not trying to downplay this classic at all, if there was a Burning Crusade or Wrath id be on that. Im just trying to point out that those that make silly comments about this being the best thing of 2019, is merely there favorite of 2019, and that this will be a niche thing.

I have amazing memories of Vanilla WoW, the best guild ever, a great time in my life in general. I thought about returning to Classic a lot. But these memories are the best and I won’t let anything ruin that, not even reality. Big thumbs up to those enjoying it, I’ve decided not to return.

The game is so much more than 40 man raids.
This.
Most people I knew hated 40 man raids back in the day because of how often people would just not show up, or you would have 40 people and 5 waiting, and somehow end up with 35 people and nobody to fill. Most of the time was spent waiting for people to be ready to pull.

I believe mmorpg's as a whole really dropped the ball when they put so much emphasis on raiding. It might of payed off short term but look at where we are today.
I can't say I'm too inspired. I played vanilla originally and enjoyed it. I'll no doubt enjoy a short stay in classic - short being the key word, nostalgia aside I don't feel it offers as much as even retail can for me. Good move by Blizz either way as it's just more money going in their pocket again. Who knows maybe even retail WoW will benefit from this new - old experience. Here's hoping anyway.

The game is so much more than 40 man raids.
True, and what also is true is outside of 40 man raids were still talking time lengths. To run dungeons, to level, to craft, rep grind, no flying, no quest aid (sure hte addons will be there soon if not alreaday)
Its not only a matter of the game being fun or not, its proven to be very fun. Its a reality of is "time invest worth the fun" and by that i mean, with the way todays youth is (in my opinion) in the mindset of instant grats and shiney lootboxes and older players (former fans) with less time to commit really wanna stay in classic?
I been playing GW2 for abit now (level 36) and started playing ESO (a social singleplayer game lol, questing is so damn good in this game, amazed) and Warhammer martyr. When I have time to play I have windows, that i know in advance, squueze an hour here, half hour there. Those time frames dictate what im going to play. Im going to say for sure, in 1 hour of gaming, id have more fun playing something other then classic. Cause ina 1 hour sitting, you dont get to actually do much. Betweeen travel, making sure you got pots/reagants/banages, the total exp to level. if a window is open to have a few hours of gaming, wow would be nice. but I dont get those windows often, 1 time a week, 2-3 times tops ina week. So that means i wouldnt be anywhere close going thru the content in months of time. Game is fun, but the time it will take me to enjoy the game.......too long. If i was younger and had the time id be playing classic right now (for a few months anyway) Knowing this i choose to not play, and I think alot of older gamers will be like meafter a few weeks or even days, and just not see it worth it. And since this is a 15 year old game, drawing in new blood?
I get people are happy, but lets not grasp at straws just because we like something. I could be wrong, I hope I am, i want people to be happy. But being realistic should be ones priority.
I got a Hunter to level 8 last night after playing for 4 hours LOL. It reminded me how hard Classic was as I pulled one too many mobs. And no "tank pet" until level 10 LOL.
Chat was fun too watch. People were sociable and funny "oooh look I need to stock arrows" :-D

I find your view quite interesting.
First off I'm 55 years of age.
I've never given a thought about prioritizing fun, that's a new concept to me. When it comes to fun/entertainment, I just do what I feel like doing at the time. No thoughts whatsoever of what I can I accomplish in a given time. There is always tomorrow and the next day.
Worrying about what I can get done in a certain amount of time sounds too much like work
Congratulations, Classic players. You are now special time travellers, running around capital cities how they looked before and doing exactly the things you might have done 15 years ago, and giving Blizzard sub money to do those same things you have done many times before. I should open an MMO, the gullible bucks would be welcome.
So I take it you've never eaten at the same restaurant twice then? Fancy.
I never played Wow until WotLK so this has nothing to do with Nostalgia. I have never been a big Wow fan, I play on and off, always looking for a game that would grab me like Lotro did up until the F2P change. Lotro is my all time favorite game and playing Classic wow is the closest thing to Lotro SoA you will find. This game has challenging leveling, Group quests (How I miss those Epic Book Group Quests), Meaningful and rare gear upgrades, Long dungeon runs, Huge world that takes time to traverse and so far a great community (Playing on PvE RP server)
I haven't enjoyed leveling this much in 10 years at least. I know some people say that everyone will leave in a week and people are only playing for nostaglia, just like people said PS only had large populations because they were free. This is just a great game. It might be 15 years old but it is new to me and I would bet 75% of those playing now didn't play Vanilla.
Will it be bigger than retail and last 10 years? No way. But will there be a passionate community that enjoys the game? Absolutely.
And about the cheerio thing... you should know me better than that, I'm one of the few who rarely ever visits forums of games he doesn't play and/or doesn't like.

In its time. Well said.

Ironic isn’t it?
The most casual game of 2004 is now the most challenging in 2019.
That shows how badly MMORPGs ‘evolved’. And there are people who think this is a good thing.
Probably greater emphasis on more time consuming, and less so with regards to actual challenge.

To the recent generation, having to make decisions is challenging... so yeah, Classic is more challenging in that department. It's not "hand it all to me and if I don't like it allow me to change it all for free" anymore.
I understand, but these days I'm not much of a fan of time consuming elements as part of the challenge.

As long as I’m having fun I’m ok with it. If I’m not I just move on
This is something WoW said we didn't really want, and they had no plans to do it, and now they are. I think they're going to shit their pants when they see the Classic traffic compared to BfA.
Then they'll be full bore, all in, on doing anything they can to recreate that 12M peak.
Why wouldn't they? They'll do what their investors tell them to and they'll like it.
I bet they start reporting their sub numbers again at some point...good sub numbers are good for business after all.
They could run a few different instances of Classic WoW, Classic BC & Classic WoTLK, or progress to WoTLK. Did the pop start tanking after that?
I jumped in during WoTLK and I'm waiting to see how things progress towards that expansion, if it does.
I think their RNG math worked better back then as well, from what I remember. Either that, or I really AM the unluckiest person I know.... Headless Horseman Mount, you will never be mine.
Blizz says they aren't planning anything, which is probably a good place to be, so they don't sound like idiots when they go back on what they say, or make more declarative statement blunders...

I agree with you on this one. Yes, MMO's are going down badly, by at least 5 years ago. The current MMO scene is in a very, very bad shape, and that's why, for me at least, WoW Classic release, in this time and age, is a good thing.
Last time I played a MMORPG for about 1 month was last year Bless release. Unfortunately, the ones managing it, was doing a very poor job in releasing and handling the game. Point is, if it weren't for WoW Classic release, i would probably just play few games of HS, few matches of Team Tactics and alike games on a daily basic , which SUCKS! ( for a MMO player ).
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
So Blizzard is fully expecting that WoW classic will have a significant drop off within weeks post launch.
Of course they are, they are actively driving people away with 10 hour queues! I could see 1 hour wait, I get it, but no one has time to wait 10 freaking hours to log in, then have time to play the game. of course everyone is going to quit
Blizzard devs behind WoW classic have said in an interview that they fully expect a huge dropoff post WoW classic launch.
"Newman: Why not just open up more servers?
Hazzikostas: We are fairly sure — we can’t know for sure without being fortune tellers, but most of them align — there will be a fairly steep drop off compared to that day one interest, and we want to make sure because of how important community is in Classic in particular, that we have healthy server populations."
Also
"Newman: How quickly will be you be dropping the number of layers, do you think?
Hazzikostas: We actually expect fairly aggressively to reduce the number of layers that are running, even after the first couple of days.
Once the populations spread out around the world and people aren’t all in those handfuls of starting zones, we’ll be able to have even half as many layers as we did initially, with the goal just a few weeks into launch, as we go to phase two, of having all layers stable and having a single layer for each realm as the end state."
So Blizzard is fully expecting that WoW classic will have a significant drop off within weeks post launch.
Doubt anyone would disagree. Its a lame excuse though.
Now I actually think that they will be adopting a "suck it and see" approach to servers and everything else. Two things implications of these comments though:
First: unlike original WoW after word gets around about the servers Blizzard don't expect a continuous influx of new people after the initial surge. Otherwise they wouldn't expect the population to drop off.
Second: they expect people to leave - and fairly soon. Yes people will move out of the starter areas - reducing the number of layers needed but how long do they think it will take for people to hit max level? Resulting in ... population issues, just not in the starter zones. Probably not as great granted but still. And I don't think it will be that long before the vast majority of people hit cap. So is this wishful thinking? Suck it and see? Or have they just haven't thought things through.

Gut Out!
What, me worry?
Last time I played a MMORPG for about 1 month was last year Bless release. Unfortunately, the ones managing it, was doing a very poor job in releasing and handling the game. Point is, if it weren't for WoW Classic release, i would probably just play few games of HS, few matches of Team Tactics and alike games on a daily basic , which SUCKS! ( for a MMO player ).
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
