Because nothing says "scam" quite like giving players a choice of whether they want to go with the one-time purchase of buy to play or pay a subscription instead of that one-time purchase? And yes, that's "or"; you pay one or the other. Your choice.
I tried the game, its just not worth b2p. Its worth f2p. It doesnt do nothing spectacular.
I see this ridiculous line of thinking so often. Not paying $5 to eat a turd but eating it if it's free... it's a still a turd.

Just look at this silly looking monsters and grafics... This wont work with us western gamers. We can not immerse in eastern style games. Why are they even keep trying?
Another style over substance MMO with sexualized little girls that is F2P in Korea and B2P in the West with a "promise" of the cash shop here not being as over the top P2W as the Korean version... I'm having a strong sense of deja vu here

um, there are plenty of westerners who love eastern games and their art styles.
From what I have read this game could fail for other reasons.

I actually enjoyed the game in Beta. I was hoping it was going to be F2P and not have to buy a package and just buy the stuff from the cash shop instead when I needed/wanted it. I am not hopeful now with this announcement and don't see me playing it. I also see a F2P option in about six months when they realize this isn't going to work for this type of game.
Or you could just give a 7 day free trial. All this does is make it so you spend $10 more than you have to if you end up liking the game and then if you don't like it, you just wasted $10. I don't really see this as a positive thing. I fail to see why you need to charge a fee if the purpose is simply to give people a chance to see if they like your game.

and this is why I like the f2p option better in any game.
F2P games all sell founder packs for early access and p2w shit, why is everyone tripping over selling what is essentially a 30 day fully playable demo for $10? Would a free demo be better? Well yea....but this isn't that crazy.
