SWG, even though I thought the game was very flawed. With the emphasis on "old school" and the success of " WoW Classic" I would like to see how SWG does in this current MMO climate. I don't really care about the VR option and I think a vat majority who play the game would play without VR.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
The gameplay of the world ( .hack// story stage MMORPG) is hack n slash using controler , combat type is close to OW .
Basically .hack// tech level is possible now .
The main character is stuck, they are unconscious in a coma, their mind is the control and yes SAO would probably have been a better example but they both have the same type of idea even if the main character's is a special case. It's the first thing that came to mind.

VR is awesome. Sure if you look a VR game on your laptop you may think yeah that is not for me until you actually try it with the hardware on. The problem is MMO is very hard to develop and VR is taxing on hardware, also you spent way too much time in MMO that would become inconfortable quickly. I dont see any MMO that could be dev in VR at the moment. RPG like Baldur Gate or KOTOR in VR would be good.

Depend on what kind of VR we talk about 3Dof or 6Dof . 3Dof MMO can be develop together with PC or console version while 6Dof need to be standalone
3Dof headset can be cheap and can be replace with mobile.
The problem is not VR , but the MMO genre itself being lack of inverstor
Funny, most of the folks claiming VR sucks, likely dont own a VR system.
VR is actually amazing, even in its young state. And its only getting better. I'd love to see Tabula Rasa back, on my desktop system or VR. Just bring it back!!!
If we are talking "Ready player one" style VR then Anarchy online, being a fixer with Manex... such a beautiful world. However at current levels of AR sadly, none.
VR at the moment is good, game like Beat Saber being the best so far personally. But I think we are a way off....way off anything we could say is true VR.
I've played a VR fantasy MMORPG called A Township Tale, and it's pretty well done. Unfortunately a lot of tasks in VR are not nearly as easy as they are in non VR so it makes playing a bit more strenuous and kind of annoying. I tried to chop a tree down and ended up swinging an axe at a tree for like 15 minutes and getting really tired and still not having any wood (probably was cutting it down wrong). But the combat and leveling and inventory were done pretty well, the atmosphere was pretty cool (although kind of cartoony).
But like with most VR games, I get sick within an hour of playing so I can't really say I would love to play a long lasting MMORPG in VR other than dabbling on the side sometimes.
LMAO...So who is going to do the VR mode,i haven't seen one developer come even remotely close to doing anything with VR.
VR SHOULD stand for hands on interactive gameplay, however somewhere along the lines devs and people THINK VR is simply a light show. So if i got my fave mmo remade with VR,i would be looking at a waste of money,i just rather play w/o rather than pay again to play the same thing with slanted mirrors and side vision.
I can't even imagine how much work it would be to do a VR game properly with full on interaction. The way it would be done is by simply taking your KB/Mouse binds and sticking them to various VR peripherals,so all we do is move the mechanics from one place to another.
Then if truly done as interactive, just imagine the lag,the speed of the internet would have to be breakneck and the PC's very high end.

Most of you seem to not like VR. I tried out VR not too long ago and was completely blown away. What an amazing experience. I'm wondering if some of you have really got to experience the good VR and not one of those cheap / silly phone helmet kits.
Even those "silly phone helmet kits" can be pretty good... at least Gear VR is.
Anyway, my favorite MMO already natively runs in VR and traces its public availability back to 2002.

I love VR its a amazing experience and the porn chics are so lifelike , But i can only stand it in small does without getting vertigo. Never realized how many porno's were shot in million dollar homes until VR (Handjobs get boring after awhile so i like to look around), I'm wondering how many of them are empty real estate listings ?

This is the real problem with a VR MMO, currently.
Assuming we are talking a VR game with motion control, then gameplay just isn't designed well for it. Gameplay for an MMO largely revolves around constantly attacking for hours.
It's just an exhausting and tedious process to constantly swing your arm around to "attack".
Designers would really have to alter gameplay to be less auto-attack constantly, and more interactive as @Wizardry was complaining about.
Most of these games' combat systems are designed so poorly that if you waggle your hand rapidly you attack like 50 times in 10 seconds.
As a VR title? Nothing really. I wouldn't even be able to play it as I'm avoiding VR until it's a bit more...uhm, robust. I'd love to see Vanguard or Warhammer Online relaunched though.

When you hit a global or a hall of fame, the swirly effects would bring out my O-face. Rocktropia would also be good eye candy.
