Good write up, appreciate seeing this site focusing more on happenings in existing MMORPGs rather just news about the latest under funded KSer or BR launch.

Eve will probably be solid until Star Citizen launches? SO that's what another 5-10 years easy?

Dual Universe appears to be the nearer term competitive threat to EVE.

Regarding the Alliance Tournament and the problem of space to produce it, later on CCP Falcon comments that the new office building under construction has a room downstairs specifically earmarked as a live-stream studio. That seems like the obvious solution to that.

The only model they have is fighting. If that's all you can do and you can't do things like mining without being ganked, it will continue to drop in numbers. I think people got tired of the mafia nature of even hisec. Corps that went lowsec expected runs against them, but not in hisec. Can't keep players when their being forced to pay "protection" to even exist the station. I'm not saying that most of the game can't model around the fight but newbee's and several more easy going players are forced out for this reason. Over time I think they would get more engaged with the fight to try something new with an alt. That was what hisec was supposed to be, but it was lost with ganking and related methods to attack newbees.
For me I played for years but left because even hisec became a battle zone. I enjoyed mining and processing as a calming experience, but was disappointed with the loopholes for attack in highsec. Others I tried to play gave up because they kept getting killed in hisec.
I now hate the game I loved and hope Eve Online dies on the vine.

It's still a ways out tho, and even then it the community needs to support it long term. Part of EVE's success has been when it launched it was the only game of its kind. Now so many games are vying for our attention and are influenced by EVE, it'll be interesting to see if any of them stick. Especially since many gamers, even casual MMO fans, have shorter attention spans. If it doesn't stick right away, it can be doomed to fail. I'm definitely interested in Dual Universe, but as always I'm cautiously optimistic moving forward with it.

I think Amazon's New World is a pretty big threat to EVE.  It's pretty much perfectly set up to be a PvP Territory Control Timer game, that also has a bunch of grind whenever content.

Since we've gone too that topic.

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

Dual Universe does look interesting, but its not a game i would hold my breath waiting for, maybe it will come out next year, but my own 'guestimate' puts it at +2 years minimum. :/

Naw, the biggest threat to EVE is it's own management team coupled with a lack of resources /will to radically upgrade and revamp it into the modern age.

It's OK, all good things eventually must come to an end, making way for the new.

That is actually a thing for people who don't get the joke.  Amazon owns Twitch so their dream would be owning everything from the dev team, the servers the game runs on, the PC parts shipped from Amazon, and the social media that players interact with out of the game.

I think UbiSoft is trying to cover that angle as well, if their monetization of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is anything to go by... ;)
