I dont know about Wizardry but I'm still playing FFXI and been playing since 2003.
I was just joking. Nothing wrong with liking one and sticking with it.
But see 4 posts above this one for the reason I joked about it.

SWG - It was my first MMO, it's in part rose colored glasses but it had all the things that defined MMO's for me.
EVE Online - I played for 12 years so while it has some deep flaws that eventually pushed me away, it still holds the highest money sink for me. I spent more in EVE than all other MMO's combined (4 accounts) so it belongs on a list like this.
LotRO - It was a very charming MMO. If you have a potato PC and are low on cash, I'd still recommend it. It's just a good MMO.
BDO - It is a burn out MMO but in short bursts, it's flashy, brave and action packed.
FF14 - I keep going back to it. Despise the railroad design and gated progression but I keep going back to it.
Lineage 2 (really can't wait to see what they are going to do with Project TL) EQ1 WoW ESO (would have been higher if ZOS didn't fuck it up so much every patch cycle) Aion or Tera Diablo 3 (not an mmo, more a co-op but still somewhat entertaining for the time being) Path of Exile (again not really an mmorpg but somewhat enjoyable but I found it a bit too "dark" meaning the game became really bizarre and overly violent/graphic toward higher content)

I laugh at how he talks up the FF series as though it's somehow different than other games. If anything its almost as on rails as SWTOR. Anyway, I play FFXIV right now, it's amusing but certainly nothing earth-shattering.
@DeadSpock - Nothing at all against you and your opinion, just Wizardry is a rabid fanboi of the FF series, as according to him it's "no hand holding" etc and all other games are not true MMO's etc ad naseum.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
Fairly easy to guess everyone's first MMO and/or age from this list...
Just out of curiousity,
Here ya go;)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
That's nice. No go away. And tell all your spammy friends, too!

1 - City of Heroes 2 - DC Universe Online 3 - Star Trek Online 4 - Everquest 2 5 - Elder Scrolls Online
These are pretty much in the order of how much time I invested in them. CoH is WAY ahead of the choice in position 2. All of these had the advantage of a great outfit/ super group/ clan/ guild to play with, none moreso than CoH. I played a lot of other games, but none of them held my interest for over a year, like all of these did.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
I had some time during the CO maintenance, so while we're waiting for Sir Agravaine's age/first game guesses, I did some summary data crunching. Just for fun, nothing deep, only a superficial analysis - plenty of games were listed so I only focused on the firsts.
And only where the poster (unlike me for example...) was able to set an order, though I counted the non-numbered mentions too, noting if the game was mentioned first - not that it indicates anything on a list without actual positions...
Of course it's questionable in representation, not even among us mmorpg.com readers, but still has some grounds, the thread had a few days already, with plenty of replies. I just put it here as a disclaimer because there are some oddities, like a bunch of "big" names, both old and more recent, were mentioned a lot, but not once as number one.
To name a few, Wow, ESO, BDO, SWTOR, EQ2, Rift, or even GW2 (which had a lot of second places, and even first places on non-numbered posts).
There were the odd ducks:
Vendetta Online, with 1 first... and that's all, unique taste for sure Tabula Rasa, with 1 first, and 1 mention in non-numbered posts Lineage 2 with 1 first and 2 mentions (one of those on first place) Shadowbane with 1 first, a 5th place and 1mention on the first place.
Then there's the mass, with just one first place like the above, but with several other places and mentions too:
Ultima Online, 3 firsts, 6 other places and mentions (one of those on first place)
LotRO, 3 firsts, 14 other places and mentions (two of those on first place)
EQ, 5 firsts, 10 other places and mentions (four of those on first place), and
SWG, while only 4 firsts, 16 other places and mentions (four of those on first place) and the places are mostly 2nd and 3rd as well. 20 mentions from about 70 posts is a pretty good ratio, we could say SWG is an all-time favourite indeed.
Actually there's also FF XI which is hard to place, it has less mentions than Ultima Online, but a more loyal fanbase: 5 firsts, a second, and one another (non-numbered) mention...
Just a few posters list it, but those few rate it as their topmost favourite.
