Can't... wait... I loved D3 and never got into D1 or D2 when I was a kid, so I'm super excited for D4.

Looks the same as 3 to me. I’ll stick with Grim Dawn for my ARPG needs.

I swore off diablo games as they ruined my undergraduate years (reality was, I ruined it, but d2 was the scapegoat).

Either way, I need innovation in the games I play. A Diablo MMO would have been nice but then again it would just compete with the WoW audience and if you look at Blizzard they have one game in each genre.

So perhaps, Diablo 4 announcement with real cash economy :) . . . i'd play that in a heart beat but then again, i'm a weirdo. Overall, no desire for D4, I got my PoE to fall back on, plus, i have all these MTX cosmetics, can't let that go to waste.

Loved D1 back then, I liked D2 somehow and played it for some time. D3 sucked. I won't buy D4 unless the reviews MONTHS after release shine so bright, I can't avoid the game.

    Gross...

D1 and D2 are the only recognizable Diablo games. So really you have never played a Diablo game.
Diablo 1 is available on GOG.com, dated but still good. Diablo 2 is still a great time with friends.

Unless you enjoy getting a legendary drop every time you turn a corner then keep playing Diablo 3.
But if you ask me, it kinda makes the word "Legendary" hold no meaning.

Grim Dawn is pretty uninspired and visually underwhelming. Cant really wrap my head around your mindset. Considering Diablo 4 is years away and every expansion released for Grim Dawn is even more underwhelming than the last. I sincerely doubt you will feel this way by then. But good luck with that regardless.

I never tried D1 or D2 but i have watched and was never interested at all. Finally i figured after Blizzard made good money i might see an improvement in D3,well i can now say i will never care about another arpg ever again because they are meant to be fast cash grab game designs, very cheap and doing very little.

It doesnt sound like you actually played the game. It might not be as pretty as Activision games, but it’s certainly deeper and more entertaining to me.

I have so much time in D3 where D2 was struggle to even finish as I hated it though played a lot of Diablo as well. I have no eagerness for this as who knows when it will be out and how many things will have been changed by then. I was hoping to hear they were going to bring back the original vision for the runes that was suppose to be in D3.

so the brutal part of the tittle is how bad it will be? becasue knowing blizzard streaks of bad games, plus the whole you don't have phones, plus the bow to china, why its even making so much news?

I'm really looking forward to this. Wen i pre-ordered D3 i was so hyped I couldn't wait the 3 weeks, and ended up buying D2 to fill the void. I really enjoyed D3 at release until the need for great gear came in and it was either spend $948784 in AH or get smashed by elite mobs for 2 years until good things dropped.

I think they always have a good story and great feel to the combat, so I'll definitely be watching for this one. I'll have Baldurs Gate 3 to hold me off.

I would say here is someone who has not played Grim Dawn. A great game, lots of loot and no cash shop at all.

I'm pretty simple when it comes to "lore consistency" in ARPGs. Are we laying waste to the forces of Ultimate Evil through mass mayhem? Is there phat loot? Then the lore is sound. Now onto the important stuff.
Agreed. I play these dungeon crawling looters to blow copious amounts of shit up.

Getting hung up on Diablo lore interests me about as much as trying to figure out where Twilight fits in Vampire lore... i.e. not in the least.

    As an aside...

I was playing D3 last night grinding gear at Torment 13 for my no-set Witch Hunter, when I ran into a rainbow goblin. That led me to Whymsydale all super bright with rainbows, unicorns, teddy bears and pinatas.. and it was glorious because I got an upgrade to my crossbow, gloves and a ring I was missing. No shits were given for the lack of gritty atmosphere because those upgrades were enough to bump me up to playing on Torment 16 :)

It's more than 2-3 years away,  so IMO a bit premature to call it brutal - we dont know yet.

Maybe it will be brutal, maybe not
The reason people are speculating that it will be more brutal is based on the video that they released at the announcement. It was FAR darker and nastier than anything seen in Diablo 2 or 3, almost going back to the bottom levels of Diablo 1.

Also, it's funny watching you say in every post that, "we just don't know how it will be, it's too far out." Yup, that's why watching you try and bash it for the first couple of days was so interesting. You REALLY take sides when it comes to liking or hating companies and lose rationality IMO.

The art, the menus, the icons, the animations, the effects... just everything was in such an early state in the gameplay that they showed. So while we probably should not speculate on how the game will play, balance, even systems that will be in, I think that the video allows us to speculate that they intend on going much darker than Diablo 3.

Good story? But...D3 contradicted established lore more than few times...
I hope d4 ignores d3 lore. d3 lore is a disrespect to the series.

I'm excited for D4 nonetheless. I want Blizzard to succeed in gaming development. They have brilliant people working there who deserve praise... It's just the chiefs... All arrogant bast****.

Sadly, after @DMKano said this is what D3 should've been this game aged really bad in my eyes. Effects and particles aside, if you change the color pallet back to rainbown it is pretty much an expansion for D3.

But I'll take what I get and I wanted a gritty diablo so here it is, and I'm glad.

There is one thing that bothers me tho...

Blizzard is on a streak of making lore important in games that you won't find in game (just in books) and to me Lilith is a nobody that I squashed through in my Diablo2 playthrough... Even if she had a book about her and she created our reality... To me she will always such a nobody that was just Andariel sprite but painted grey.

I'll bash her head (if given the opportunity) and tell her just that.
As much as I enjoyed D3, I have to agree that it should probably be ignored. It's simply...a waste of potential. Az and Bel completely wasted(even if I am of an odd line of thought that they nailed Azmodan to a T), Zoltan wasted etc. The only good thing being the RoS part.

As for Lilith, she is only the mother of all humanity(demon side, forgot archangel's name ; Inarius?). Doing a matricide? Interesting. I'm against battling her(except half jokingly like in D2) because if we defeat her, who's left? Tathamet, that's who and that's...just wrong. Tat is the primordial hydra, the embodiment of Chaos itself. It's not like fighting Khorne or Tzeentch, but like fighting Warp itself - silly beyond measure.

Though it is interesting, very interesting that in this hyper feminine time we are doing a matricide.
I think we are at her side.... and her lover, tortured, is the real enemy.

Also, Rathma, is not evil and he kinda hates his mother... Idk why he would summon her unless there is a bigger threat.
    ???

That was Rathma??? If it is...there most likely is something WAY bigger on the horizon. But...if it was, he could've summoned Lilith just to balance the scales ; the Heavens side "won" (gee thanks for understanding one big fat nothing D3) and the Hell scale is almost empty ; that's no balance at all! And we all know what Necros believe in...

Edit: Where did you read that was Rathma? I NEED to know more lol!
I think it's inferred as he calls her "Mother" with Rathma being Lilith's son. Technically she's everyone in sanctuarys mother but she's literally his mother.

I'm interested in your thoughts. Was Diablo ever as brutal as people make it out to be? I'd like to posit it's another adjective, but...I'll let you speak.

For me no Diablo 1 was not brutal, nor was diablo 2.

IMO Dark Souls was brutal, dead space as well. Madworld.

I doubt that D4 comes anywhere close - it's a big commercial game from Blizzard, they will tone it down for mass appeal
You are comparing games that came out 10+ years after Diablo 1 and Diablo 2. For their time they were very dark and brutal, at least in my opinion. Comparing those to the darker games of today, with all of the advancements in graphics, technology, etc... yeah they don't seem quite as "brutal".

fine then, shin megami tensei was more brutal then diablo, only thing diablo had going was gore, and that is hardly "brutal" messy yes, not brutal, in shin megami tensei the first 2 pretty much you topple down god and lucifer, plus anything btw then and making most of all devils and angels your slaves to fight for you, only diference is it was not graphical

There is an awful lot of creative potential ideas to go towards with Lilith in D4. Sadly, I think she'll just revive Butcher / Leoric / Diablo(pick any number of them) and we'll just need to whack her on the head. Which would be /facepalm

As for Rathma, it doesn't look like him, except the pale skin. Also, would Rathma really be wearing a cheesy pentagram? One'd think that'd be wearing something more related to...idk...Tra(n)g Oul.
It's hard to say since she doesn't want to revive anyone. Her entire gig is that she wants the eternal conflict to end, no more endless revival of demons and angels.

I don't remember the details, but I thought whatever was happening at the time was fun. I don't look into the details and try to find holes. I don't care enough about stories like some, but the story didn't bother me and Heaven vs Hell came off pretty cool to me at the time.
