If it's just cosmetic stuff I'm fine with it.

Just don't let it affect gameplay please.

I hate it when the system tacks in another thread about something that already has a thread.....

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Why is everyone freaking out? CDPR has stated on multiple occasions that the SP portion of the game would not have MTX. The MP portion of the game is in early development and is too early to talk about the monetization it'll have. Everyone is taking this like it's the end-of-days and concrete evidence that they will pull an Activision or EA. CHILL OUT!

    /end rant.

Bash others for microtransaction, then silently add their own microtransaction Feels a bit hypocritical eh?

Depends on what they are criticising. I remember them saying "microtransactions in a single player game? No" (paraphrased) so that seems to, at the very least, stay consistent.

Are they criticising the way other "multiplayer games" implement microtransactions? Or, did they say there should never be microtransactions? If the former, there is no issue. If the latter then sure, it's hypocritical.

I suspect it's the former (for now.)

They bashed the "single player games" , while we are talking about the Multiplayer part of Cyberpunk here. Don't .. mess things around!

People asked for Multiplayer and that requires additional staff, work hours , etc to add and maintain the game. There is nothing wrong with a cash shop in ANY game, if that means cosmetics, that "beautiful" mount or costume, etc, as long as that helps to keep the game updated and with solid and good content.

IF they add micro-transactions in Cyberpunk single player mode , then yeah, you have a point. But I doubt they will.

It's hard to tell, CDPR games are heavily just single-player titles, so don't really have anything to go by as far MP monetization goes.

Cyberpunk most likely will be a sales hit by default just for the SP campaign, the MP microtransaction won't hurt the game either way that goes.

Mind games like GTA V, the MP aspect is monetized in a way that if the main game was the MP it'd be the usual P2W drama-llama, as it isn't, nobody really cares.

CDPR are marketing masters second only to Blizzard, in my opinion. "DRM Free" executables that only work on DRM operating systems for games that have already been pirated. They sell games in Loot-Crate during sales events. My bet is gamers will eat up whatever heavy-handed monetization they tack on to Cyberpunk.

Like I said, they are masters of marketing and PR. There is no rational thought process behind this. The support is completely emotional. You should know this by now. We should all know this. CDPR aren't taking a high road and never have, but they have said the words gamers want to hear and that's enough for most people.

Gamers are willfully gullible and want to believe in something so desperately that they gaslight anything and everything that even remotely looks like it fits the fantasy of an industry 'outsider' that is "on their side".
Well, to me, companies are companies. There are also "good" companies and "bad" companies, but in general, they have to be what they are and they have to do what they do in order to stay in business.

Some companies really do try to be the best that they can, part of the community, give back, treat their customer "right" but they also have a reality to deal with.

I don't doubt that CDPR wants to be "the good guys." But I also think that there is a reality to game development that might mean that they do some things that players will not like. Even though it falls in line with what a company might do given the current environment (microtransactions.)

And, as companies get larger and more successful, invariably someone says "in order for us to continue to grow we need to get different blood to take the company into the future ... "

that in turn gets them more business minded people who then take the company in directions that he original management might not have wanted to go.

I didn't even know there was going to be multiplayer. I'll have to keep a closer eye on this now.

Came out as fake anyway. The outlet translated it wrong. CDPR said they don't agree with scummy business practices. No MTX in multiplayer or single player and the news outlet also apologized for mis-information

Looks like a classic case of media coverage spreading lies for views and clicks.

WTF? I'm not sure how much you know about software, but it only runs on the systems it's been compiled for, and that goes doubly so for games which are often dependant on a lot of middle-ware; i.e. CDPR can't just 'magically' make Windows games run on Linux (or Mac, or BSD) no matter how old those games are... and so what if those games have been pirated? (Or do you think piracy is somehow justified?)

As for the games in Loot-Crates; yeah, GoG (i.e. CDPR) did that (years ago IIRC), but it was never that big and they regularly have plenty of games on sale normally. So paint them as some evil wolf in sheep's clothing if you like, but I'll judge them as I do all companies, on their actions.
