Every time I see a developer selling items in a game that is not yet even released, I throw up a little in my mouth.

We see a trend now with this developer. They want to show us everything except the game. That alone tells me a lot.

Usually is an automatic pass for me.
When you focus on the shop rather than making the game it rings some warning bells (SotA docet).

"Currently Ashes of Creation is still in development, with its free-to-play Battle Royale Arena game Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse currently available on Steam, with some of the cosmetics purchased for the Ashes MMO available in Apocalypse to use if you want to show off what's available to you when they are added."

image I'm sure its all just for testing!

Yeah, what's next in the game industry? In-app credit lines? Mortgaging of ingame housing?

At least they can be used in the actually available f2p battle royale thing, so it is marginally better than cosmetics sold for games in development that can't be used at all.

Oh I get it now, they wasted a ton of time and resources on a BR so they could show of the stuff you can buy for the MMO. It all makes perfect sense.

Sooo.. when you can´t drum up enough buzz for your game on your own... Try to ride the now pretty much dead GoT wave... Hacks... hacks all of them

I expect to read a "Dear community, we are sorry but..."-type of post anytime soon. This does not bode well. At all.

Ashes of Creation depresses me. The sales pitch was pretty much what I wanted for this genre.

It's either that or they wasted a ton of time and resources on a f2p BR when their MMO isn't even near release.

Remember back then when they actually showed the game on previews... and not how they are going to monetize it... Aw good times.

This game didn´t even launch and it´s a failure already... shame.

How to keep suckers paying for your lifestyle: have an artist from some 3rd-world sweat shop churn our concept art every month that you can charge suckers to pay for with the promise that you'll one day be able to use it in some imaginary game.

Actually I think I might start my own MMO...
