I suppose Blizzard didn't want the Alliance quitting the game entirely since it would mean the loss of subs and they opened transfer for this server and it was open for sometime. They announced 2 days ago that all the transfers were going to shut down tonight. A huge exodus happened and I created a level 1 Alliance on the server and there was no one but me in Stormwind. In Ironforge there were Horde killing the guards and simply having free rein as there were 4 level one's and three 50+ and one level 60 druid.
In one stroke the server was killed. Whatever world PvP is completely dead, well there was none to speak of before either because of the population imbalance but this action decimated the server. How could they do this without any thought to the hours people invested in their characters to find that since they did not log on the last 3 days, they were left out of the transfer and are now stuck on a side that is completely dead, that even your major cities will have Horde in them.
PvP people say is suppose to be great but when you overwhelm one side it kills it completely in the end.
Of course we shall not talk about the server they transferred to that suddenly became overpopulated. The Horde realising the Alliance were leaving from various posts in Reddit, discord and so on also transferred to the same poor hapless server (Earthshaker) . In the process a medium populated realm just became crowded and may have become Horde dominated again.
For a company that has been running this game for 15 years they sure do make some rookie decisions.
What is Blizzard supposed to do? Whenever they announce anything time-limited there will be affected players that won't be aware until that period is past.
Guess you say if it was a "spur of the moment" decision, maybe they should consider in the future posting it in advance. To give those who don't login regularly a chance to know ahead of time. But Horde players should see what this shows when the imbalance gets too great.

Surprised server transfers still cost money at this point. Greedy bastards!
It's an extended service. Those typically come with service fees.
It is common business practice.
If you want a MMORPG that functions like a charitable program or social service you will have to look elsewhere. Blizzard is a for profit company and thus acts like one.
The game was never about open world pvp. When in the past they noticed the the population was mostly pve they never made mechanisms to address pvp population imbalances because most pvp was happening in controlled instances across pvp and pve servers. This means now they have very little they can do and no will to do it.

the process of transferring a character is an atuomated process, and has been for years. other mmos like rift, had free servers transfers for years, it didnt take many moments back then to tranfer a char. Perhaps a few Euros would be fair, but 20 or 25 Euro for a transfer from a dead serer is pure greed.
I would even go so far as to say its a gangster move. the op paid for the game, the monthly sub, and now he has to pay 20 Euros again to play with his friends. pure blackmail right there lol
This feel very authentic. Because i seem to remember the same problems popping up over the years and in fact being the core reason for grouping servers in to shared clusters to begin with.
When things get so bad people transfer - or if they can't they re-roll or simply leave.
And people can give feedback when they leave - Blizzard introducing transfers could very well be because of such feedback. Q: We are losing subs how do we stop it? A: Transfers!
Push a system at one point and you often get a reaction elsewhere however. This is a small tweak and its ripples haven't settled.
And at the end of the day is this a reaction to a bigger tweak: the launch of vanilla?

If such caused them pause they could never act.
Blizzard should have done the transfer via signups. Monitored it and made sure the servers they were transferring to were not then overwhelmed and suffered an imbalanced ratio. They should have when they launched the game in Classic made sure this did not happen in the first place by placing server limits for the Horde and Alliance population. They are definitely responsible for this shitshow.
Why cry about something that everyone knew would happen because it has happened time and again in every game that ever boasted about world PVP?
PVP isn't fair. Never has been. You're not dueling folks. The opposition will use every means necessary to decimate you. If that means 100v1, so be it.
If your server just got decimated... it didn't happen overnight, no sir, it was already happening. Your "team" left for a server they believed would have more of their faction than the opposing faction. They are the very reason why imbalance happens. Human nature.
NO ONE EVER TRANSFERS TO A SERVER IN WHICH THE OPPOSING FACTION DOMINATES IT. That would require overcoming insurmountable odds... winning the big one... having a real set.
Get real. PVP is as much a locust fest as everything else.
Please understand the meaning of a PvE and PvP server. Lots of cry babies rolled on a PvP server, expecting a PvE experience. That is your mistake. I'll really never understand people rolling on a PvP server and then coming to the forums, and cry about being ganged, over-numbered , etc.
PvE server is what you guys are looking for! Re-roll there and you will lvl up in peace.

Nah. They rolled expecting somewhat balanced factions for some nostalgic half-remembered reason, or maybe something they heard if they are new, of large scale world PvP where fights could go either way. The crying is because the reality of WOW world PvP is stomping all over what they thought they remembered.
But in the end I find it funny that anyone would play WOW for its open world PvP. The only consistently fun and somewhat even PvP it ever had was in the BGs that were balanced (in numbers any way) by design. Fun OWPvP times in WoW have always been exceptional flukes that happened once in a blue moon. 99% of the time it has always been gankers camping quest hubs 30 levels below them or a gang of 20 stomping on 2 questers... fun!

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Certainly not me..
No seriously, this scenario could never happen to me....

One of the reasons it was a mass exodus was because it was free.
