During the Game Awards this evening, Amazon lifted the veil on its upcoming MMO project, New World. But what exactly is this new title? We had a chance to talk to David Verfaillie of the New World team about the upcoming MMO set during the twilight of the Age of Exploration.

I'll probably get it, I enjoyed what I played. But that trailer really shows.. nothing even vaguely related to the game (in it's last played state) lmao

    It's hype though

Looks interesting. At least it's not from indie developers. Skill-based action combat kind of kills things for a slow, old man like me, though.

Some interesting new info you guys managed to obtain here. It mostly sounds good, although this whole "100 players per battle" thing has me worried that they changed company sieges into an instanced deal.

Aeternum & Eternal Isle do not sound colonial no matter what "alternate" timeline you're in. Those names sound like some generic eastern game devs were consulted to make the game have more eastern appeal and that SUX. Credit to AGS for actually moving forward with release and/or gauging public interest with preorders.

This really shifted from what I expected, it seems like it has a bit of Secret World to it

    Lol, I know those feels.
That and the heavy PvP focus probably means I'll give it a pass. Since it's a full fledged MMO, that means no private servers to enjoy the game on your own terms with friends then either.

as many as you can hold.”

“Holding territories is going to be difficult, [and] they’re going to be highly desired. I think trying to hold more than one will require a very dedicated group that will be very difficult to do.”

Heard that before and i guess we all know how that will end....

Well a positive is that its a new studio that's actually releasing something, good or bad will remain to be seen but that seems to be a big leg up over half of the "new studios" trying to form over the past 5 years. I will say that the game looks greatly improved compared to the pornhub leaks (I know....) a year or so ago.

I really loved the gathering and crafting

I'll wait a bit closer to the closed beta phase to get it. Maybe more info will be released about it by then.

Or wait until launch? Get a better game experience, more bugs ironed out and more content.

So the question is this, how much MMO is it really gonna be?
Will there be server with thousands of players on each like traditional MMOs or is it a semi MMO like Conan exiles?

Traditional. Had thousands on one server. It isn't a 50 or 100 player servers game.

I'm hoping that by an actual AAA FFA PvP game with timer based sieges around...   Indies will give up on the concept and try something else.

Though that's mostly just hopeful thinking on my part.

I played during the Alpha and it was the best Alpha I've ever been apart of. The game ran smooth, beautiful graphics, great PvP, great in-game mic chat. I'm really looking forward to this one!

Been waiting for the launch date since trying out the Alpha, that was very well optimized and polished for it´s current state. Absolutely loved the experience, an easy buy for me!

they changed the scope from previously showed ?

I would say no. We were shown some stuff and people made assumptions.

It was described by some as a running simulator - until they showed some clunky combat. Then it became a survival game. And when they showed some crafting and subsequently talked of claims it morphed into a PvP game. Amazon never said though.

And with individuals being able to live within a "company" settlement that suggests something more complex again. To me there is a hint of empire building. And an active PvE enemy as well.

Guns, swords and a hint of magic were shown .... and people assumed a North & Central American 16th century sort of setting. Now we know its nominal 17th century but that the land is eternal and has been attracting people for centuries - that idea gives a fairly unlimited scope for what PvE mobs might be found. Who knows what weapons Atlanteans wielded ....

Do we really "know". Have Amazon revealed all. Still not sure. A part of me thinks not.
