We finally have a glimpse at the MMO being made in the Magic: The Gathering universe thanks to a new trailer unveiled at The Game Awards 2019. Magic Legends from Perfect World puts players in the role of the universe's Planeswalkers in this Action MMO.

    It's MMO based off the card game



    It's a reskinned Neverwinter with an even more intrusive cash shop.

    100% sure it'll have crazy loot boxes and p2w but the only thing I really care about is if it's fun.

    I find it weird everyone's already at PWE bashing and lootboxes... is it that much easy to step over the fact of "Wizards of the Coast’s strategic card game has transformed into a [...] this epic MMO Action RPG"?
    You're really ok with that, a dumb action mmo Magic? :)

    Otherwise yep, probably what Rex said. It indeed looks (on the trailer) like an upgraded version of Neverwinter, but no surprise there, all of their games sits on the same engine.
    And since D&D also belongs to WotC now, I'm sure they don't mind some D&D assets in M:tG either.

    Cool. Does not hurt to sign up and have a look. Will just be a few gibs wasted if it is fail.

    Regardless, I'd want something more singleplayer, even more grounded if I dare to say so myself. A good adventure on Ixalan or an over the top epic on Theros or a good, juicy murder mystery on...Fiora(or Innistrad / Ravnica).

    For your second part: the best digital version (imo) is still Meier's Magic, twenty-something years ago, and not just because it helped me putting down "real" Magic and with it spared me a metric ton of money :)

    It was what you wrote, a single player adventure/rpg, while being loyal to the IP. No wonder you can't find it anywhere (legally, I mean), it had all the cards (of that time), endless replayability and deck building, play against a friend or even held a tournament, now just checked and web says it even had an over-the-net feature too, (I missed that, maybe wasn't available here), and what's most important: all included in the game. No mtx, no lootboxes, no "game as service" crap...

    Sure, for the actual Magic play they have MTGO now and it has a nicer UI - but it doesn't have a singleplayer storyline, with an open world...

    It's a trailer,doesn't do anything to give us much of a glimpse.My most disappointed game of all time is STO.I was/is a big trekky fan and seeing the shambles of a game that producer put froth gives me zero hope that this will be a quality game.
    I do not expect a world but more of a cutscene/still map storyline,in other words another CHEAP effort by a developer.This is more about licensing a BRAND name to help sell a weak product,i am not expecting much at all.

    Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    Yeah, no thanks. They show off a cinematic, then ask for an e-mail with no other game details made by Cryptic. I can hear the "Digital Microtransactions Manager" laying out his long period plan of "engaging users into the microtransaction ecosystem" in his corporate presentation.

    Sounds like it will be PvE heavy with co-op so i wont expect any PvP.

    I don't understand why people would think this game would be different from Perfect World's other games.  If there was a genuine shift in how they design their games, wouldn't there be some evidence of that happening in their games?  Any news of that happening?  No?  Of course not.

    Perfect World + Wizards of the Coast's Magic: the Gathering = perfect storm of lootboxes.  Do people here know of booster card packs aka the original lootboxes?
