The numbers of players were so low that Nexon didn't see any point in hosting the game anymore.
While the game devs are doing the typical PR spin - that everything is OK for the other regions and that what happens with Astellia KR has not implications on NA/EU - is pure BS.
The real question is how much life is left in the NA/EU version - in Korea the game didn't even last a year.
Well how would it even work if the developers were the team in Korea? Would publishers elsewhere be capable of making content? I don't know if I've ever seen that in a game released elsewhere, usually it's by the main dev team and the other teams just localize it.
The Korean version was published by Nexon, so Nexon could simply decide to stop publishing the game. They seem to do that with a lot of games. The Western version is run by Barunson, who also develops the game. I don't see Barunson pulling the plug unless the company shuts down entirely.
I'm just waiting on Quizzical's thesis on how the western version is perfectly fine and how this occurrence doesn't influence it any way....then I can give him a lol again.
The game was doomed before it even launched in the west. As many have pointed out.
My beef with Astellia and other failing games from Korea is simple - they bring it to the west without addressing the issues that are causing it to fail and just are after western $$$
Well we tanked in Korea let's sucker western players into giving us money - we wont fix anything just add more genders and translate to English... go go go
It's super shitty and needs to stop, if your game is tanking - fix it first, then bring it to other regions
Very well then, what would you call "fixing" the game? The Western version certainly fixed the pay to win aspect of the Korean version. The only thing that's obviously broken about the game as it is now is that it's unfinished. The endgame is a placeholder, waiting for them to finish the content and raise the level cap. The storyline similarly just stops at the end of Athlon, and is waiting for the three main story zones promised for next year to finish it.
Always with the same line too "to ensure a better player experience and to make sure there is no pay-to-win, we are going buy-to-play." Every eastern game coming to the west always say "no pay-to-win." By saying "there will be no pay-to-win in this version" that's admitting that your first version is pay-to-win /smh.
Well yes, the Korean version was pay to win. The Western version isn't.

I'm curious on your opinion as to why Barunson doesn't just self-publish in Korea? And its supposedly getting released in RU sometime next year, are they publishing that as well?
If only nexon had used whatever funds they use to prop up random poo games to make Mabinogi 2 (or severely update Mabinogi) (not counting vindictus which I know takes place in the same world).
It remains one of the best sandboxes to this day and a hidden gem... With super dated UI and visuals

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
Not surprising. I tried the game a bit during beta, I found it to be just average, it wasn't terrible, but nothing amazing, although the launcher was pure garbage. There's just too many online games out there these days, and they can't all survive, so at this point, painfully average just doesn't cut it.
Yeah, putting people on the same servers when they're on separate continents will work soooo well. /facepalm
This game was dead on arrival.
Why developers/publishers still haven't learned they can't release yet another generic MMO and not fail is beyond me. You have to be part of a big franchise or be UNIQUE (change the mold) and F2P. It's not possible to succeed otherwise anymore.
It is a shame. I knew after reviewing it that in its launch state, it would have a hard time gaining an audience. Despite the low review score, I always hope that the game(s) learn, grow, and evolve over time. That's what an MMO is supposed to do, but most Korean studios don't make these kinds of stark changes after release.
I kept the hope alive for Bless, and I was hoping Astellia would make enough changes to decrease the tedium and garner an audience. I never relish seeing a game falter. I hope the western version can still manage a miracle.
it made my day when it shut down, nexon already knew it was going to die asap so they just threw the game out right after lost ark just to grab cash from livestock (aka not very intelligent people lol)
