I remember thinking,"Wow! This game is incredible. I can't even imagine what MMORPG games will be like 10 years from now!"

    15 years later...

    Junk.

Depth and complexity has been replaced with "dailies", cash shops, and linear sass. What a depressing list above...

Wow, the choices are pretty slim with most of these options this year. LOL @ Astellia for being in so many different categories despite how bland it was.

Lol, seeing Astellia in the biggest disappointment category and best mmo category. I should vote for it for both just for lulz. It was a pretty bland over all year for new mmos this year though. So many re-releases.

Everyone have fun with your lists, and try not to take this too seriously like a certain other thread.

    Anyway, my votes:

    Biggest Disappointment

Anthem. Awesome gameplay and visual customization are held back by lack of content, a poorly designed and stingy gear system, lack of enemy variety, jank ass UI, glacial load times, and a poor narrative.

    Best RPG

Fire Emblem Three Houses. My love for this game cannot be overstated.

    Best Battle Royale

N/A. But wrote in Tetris 99, on creativity alone.

    Best Ongoing Game

This is down to Warframe or Path of Exile. I'm going to give it to Path of Exile because they do a better job of appealing to both casual and hardcore fans than Warframe's approach of everything is easy (but here's a massive grind no one asked for).

    Most Improved MMORPG

The Elder Scrolls Online. I'm still not a fan, but this game went from utter trash on launch to something people actually like.

    Most Anticipated

Oh boy, this is disappointing. I'm going to say Crowfall, because I'm a backer, and I haven't had my fill of faction PvP in a long, long time.

    Best MMO of 2019

Lol! Not League of Legends, I mean I laughed out loud.

Very much agree, it's just a popularity contest anyway.
    My take on the list:

    Biggest Disappointment
N/a (mainly because I skipped all on the list)
    I wouldn't call it a disappointment, was more of a letdown: Neverwinter's Mod16.

    Best Battle Royale
We're here mainly about MMORPGs, right?

    Best RPG
The Outer Worlds, since I haven't played Disco yet, but I hear high praises on it too.

    Best Persistent Online Game
We're here mainly about MMORPGs, right?

    Most Improved MMORPG
I guess it's about changes, updates and expansions, so I'd say LotRO.

    Most Anticipated MMO/Persistent World
I've left the hype train years ago, so I don't anticipate anything. I just hope my old games will stay for a few more years.

    Best MMO of 2019
I'm pretty sure there wasn't any this year (several years now, actually) *
If it's about most /played, it was LotRO for me.

*ed: I know Astellia was an MMORPG of 2019, but it's mediocre at most, plus if there's only one entry it ain't really fair to give it a "Best of" title...

If someone went back in time to 2000-2004 and said this is the height of mmorpgs - nobody would have believed them

I think people forget how small the MMO market was back then. In 1999 I remember being online when EQ1 broke the record for having the most online players at one time. It was 500k. Ya that how many people were online gaming in 1999 at any given moment. Having 200-500k players on a MMO was huge and a big money maker. Now MMOs have millions of active players. As for how many people are playing games online now, I could not even start to guess. It would be easy to say 10's of millions at any given time. In the early 2000's, you had just a small handful of MMOs to pick from, now... hundreds. MMO's didnt even have end game content when they first launched. I remember playing WoW at level 60 at launch and only content was raiding capital cities. Now we get upset if at launch there is not 6+ months of end game content covering many types of game play. We have it so good you cry babies dont even get it.

Personally, best MMO of 2019 is WoW:Classic. Because reminding studios of what made this genre mainstream is most important. Not awarding studios for making more of the same bland, cash grabby products we've been made to suffer for the last decade.

WoW:Classic was an utter chore to play for me. What WoW :Classic really reminded studios is that they never need to make a new mmorpg again. They can just relaunch the mmorpg from the beginning and call it "classic" or "legacy" or what ever and ppl will fall for it.

AoC Apocalypse = Biggest Disappointment hands down. Single digit player counts, not being updated lately, and most importantly, NOT THE GAME WE BACKED!!!

You seem confused as to how Classic came about. It wasn't some ploy by Blizz. In fact we had to do a massive PR campaign to get the game. They didn't want to do it at first, and only the passionate community managed to convince them.

Only category I feel able to answer is most anticipated: Camelot Unchained.

Biggest disappointment? As with most recent years, biggest disappointment is a lack of new MMOs

Best Battle Royale? I don't play any of them, tried a few and they seemed super shallow. Unsure why this is even a category.

Best RPG? I've spent soooo much time searching for a new RPG to play this year and haven't managed to find anything. The trend for the last few years seems to be focusing more and more on story, which I hate. It's rolePLAYing, you have to be able to play the role, the gameplay of the role is key. Story is not gameplay, so any RPG focused on story tends to suck in my opinion. So, only RPG I played that was new to me was Witcher 3. And it sucked. Only roleplaying element in the game that I saw was some decisions I could make during quests, rest of the game was just open world hack'n'slash adventure game.

Best Persistent Online Game? The very question confuses me. Do you mean best persistently-online game? Or best online with a persistent world? From the choices presented, I'm assuming the former, in which case I don't really care. Why would I care if something is always-online? Its the gameplay and multiplayer that matters in an online game, not the fact that it's online.

Most Improved MMO? I don't play any MMOs any more, so can't comment. However, my experience of MMOs in the past was that each new expansion made the game progressively worse for my playstyle. Given that there were no new AAA MMOs released this year, this means that in my opinion there are no contenders for this award. But, as I said, I don't play any so can't vote from personal experience.

Most Anticipated in CU as said above.

Best MMO of 2019? It appears I've made the decision that none of them are worth playing, so can't really vote. Except maybe SWG pre-cu which I still jump into every now and again on an emulator. Hopefully next year I'll have been able to play Crowfall and CU so will be able to legitimately vote, maybe even New World (though, didn't enjoy the alpha so cant imagine ill enjoy release).
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

erm, can you then name a game that is actually considered a good roleplaying game? Because that is the type of game I usually play and they all have story. All of them.

So clearly there are some that don't. Or else you aren't actually playing "role playing games."

I'm not sure how you can even for a moment call the Witcher 3 not an RPG. It has multiple play styles (with the main three being bear school heavy attacks, cat school light attacks, and griffin school mage-focused). It has story decisions with real consequences. Romance options. Multiple endings. Everything that defines a good RPG is there, except that it trades custom characters for a preset one with a well-told main narrative. And for my money, that's a fair trade.

I don't think enough has been released yet, but GW2: Icebrood Saga is absolutely awesome! Totally loving the story, strike missions, and the balance they have been doing. Looking forward to more!

Hopefully it will be fully fledged out over 2020 to make it the equivalent of an expansion like they have said. Hopefully they cam stay the course and keep delivering.

I mean they can absolutely deliver on the content end to match an expansion, but the important part of an expansion is features.

Unless they intend to drip feed elite specs over living story updates (risking players getting made because their class wasn't first, second, or third in line) or lump them all into a random one, I don't see how the loss of expansions can be made up for.

Most anticipated list was a bit thin but Camelot Unchained is it for me as a write-in.
