This game is so empty; it's like the empty of empty

So I remember playing the beta of this a few years ago and kind of liked it. There were plenty of people playing from what  I remember and It seemed like a decent shitty f2p MMO. So feeling a bit nostalgic I downloaded it, logged in and did not see one single person. No one chatting, all cities empty. I though maybe I was disconnected from the server, but nope, the game is literally dead as doornail. Normally I I question why f2p mmos get shut down while I'm sure there is at least a decent group of people playing who enjoy it, but with this one I ask How is it still in existence?
