Contrast his behavior with one of the classiest dev leads Mark Jacobs who I've never seen blame anyone on his team for CU's delays or issues, always lays the full "blame"on only himself.

IMHO It’s a sign of total and utter lack of self confidence. It’s obvious that he is in over his head and it’s been obvious the whole time. He could be a good idea guy and he appears to be a good programmer. But in my opinion he has demonstrated that he is a really bad leader and project manager. Not everyone is cut out for the top spot. The longer he tries to push this square peg into the round hole, the more problems we will see with the staff and overall project progress. He should do himself a favor and step back and hire someone with experience as a leader and keep himself in a creative/ lore role.

I'm thinking perhaps this might be why AshKain was brought on board recently.

How is this predatory? The players who chose to spend money are all consenting adults with no mental issues; I think...
Definition of predatory
1a: of, relating to, or practicing plunder, pillage, or rapine
b: inclined or intended to injure or exploit others for personal gain or profitpredatory pricing practices
ex·ploit
verb
/ikˈsploit/
make full use of and derive benefit from (a resource).
In my opinion, this is intended to exploit others for personal gain, and not in a reasonable sense that reputable businesses gain from their customers.
sooo...McDonalds?
99p for a burger doesn’t seems predatory behaviour. If anything, they should increase their prices so people will avoid getting fat on burgers and fries.
I don’t think COE behaviour is predatory either. Whoever has $10k to throw at a game can probably afford it... and people with mental issues don’t have that kind of money.
It's a combination of both tbh. People with the cashflow to spare are one part of it, yes. But the other part are obsessive people with mental issues, who put themselves into serious trouble by doing this. Using money they should have spent elsewhere to avoid mountains of debt.
There are some articles on the subject out there. Mostly in connection to mtx/loot boxes and how these companies prey on those people on purpose.

Interesting related story, CCP recently introduced a company sponsored gambling / raffle system which has many similarities to the private ISK gambling houses they shut down back in 2016.
One user reportedly had lost control and spent $17K on these systems back then so he asked CCP to provide an option to permanently disable gambling on an account which they apparently did.
So yes, sometimes people can't contain themselves, and taking advantage of such behaviors is clearly predatory.
Legal perhaps, but still predatory, most vices generally are in one way or another, they cater to the weaker side of humanity.

Way back in the day, that's why Vye was brought on board. Caspian was a train wreck at the start. Always leaking shit, saying stupid crap all over the place. There is a screenshot on reddit, about Caspian saying back in late 2017, how the game would come out in 2019. Facepalm moment right there. At the start Vye very much did help matters. She kept him in line nicely. Then something clearly changed and he went back to his old ways.
Just from him bringing up his personal life and his own hardships, to customers. Again a WTF moment. Much like him complaining about having to work during his holidays on another discord, that happened to be filled with CoE community members.
His problem is very clear, he thinks the people within CoE discord as his mates. Talks with some of them, basically everyday, for hours on end. So now we have this situation, he shares stuff he shouldn't. Then takes it to heart when people use it against him. Yet he never learns and this crap happens over and over.
So the solution? He clearly can't control himself and/or doesn't see anything wrong. Someone needs to straight up tell him how he is acting and why people are reacting in that way.
"Well, let's just say I'm not in a great place right now. For those looking for updates to: When will the game be finished?
This is massive news!! What have they done in the last year? Spent all that time to finally change their launch date. We need to give SBS a hand right here. It's not like people have pointed this out to them for the last year.
So if we break it down. Takes them one year to do a 5 minute job.. umm.. carry the 1. CoE will be out after the sun blows up.

IMO It's predatory SBS will happily accept your money knowing they cannot deliver the game AS PROMISED
Remember all that cloud engine shit? I forget the name of it now. But they had this plan to farm out the engine to a thrid party to use a distributed computing system. Then it turned out the whole thing was scrapped. A bit of research on that 3rd party's site showed it wasn't really designed for gaming and SBS had planned everything based on the SDK that was discontinued. This raised some eyebrows, but the believers still persisted.
Yeah, this whole thing is a scam.
I don't think it started out that way. I think they were just totally incompetent and got in way over their heads. Now they are running in circles trying to cover themselves thinking they can rob Peter to pay Paul.

This "update" didn't break the website though. Gotta crawl before you can walk...
Has anyone heard of a way of getting their money back, after backing this project? I'm wondering if contacting Xsolla and Kickstarter would warrant some type of results, due to SBS stating that they would release in 2017 (though realistically that was impossible). This is a serious inquiry and I know a question like this would start some kind of debate in the CoE forums, so here I am.

I've previously contact kickstarter and its a no go, Xsolla would be similar I would bet.

This has been discussed to death. The end result is that Kickstarter makes it clear that you are backing a project with no promise of success, so you have to do your due diligence before you invest. The only requirement that Kickstarter has, is that they use the money towards completing the project.
Their Success or total failure of a client is of not consequence to Kickstarter, and they will not refund your money if you invested it in stupid people that had no idea what they were doing.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.

Just yesterday on the COE forums someone claimed XSolla not only refunded their "friends" pledge, the person still has access to their account/ items.
I imagine a bank chargeback might work considering the recent take down of the 2019 release date from the forums (the 2nd delay) with delivery now unspecified.

Kickstarter will not help you. It's an agreement between you and SBS.
I think your best bet of getting SBS return your money would be their Kickstarter promise (taken from their Kickstarter page) "Soulbound Studios promises to: ... Publish & update our schedule on the CoE website"
If you've backed through Kickstarter you could e-mail them complaining that they're in violation of their Kickstarter agreement to update that schedule and give them some timeframe (eg. one month) to publish updated schedule how long the delivery of your Kickstarter rewards is estimated to take.
Then if they fail to publish updated schedule, you could inform them that you're terminating the agreement because they continue to violate that agreement, and refund must be provided within 14 days.
Something like this wouldn't be a good bet, but it might be better than trying to complain about the missed 2017 release date 2 years after they missed it.
