While I'm glad for the extra polish, there goes my potential vacation plans.

Sigh. The releases just aren't lining up with when I'd like to schedule time off this year. I guess I'll have to schedule time and use that to tackle my backlog.

It was the reason I bought a ps1, and the reason I spent the next decade...ish playing primarily on consoles.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

I'm glad companies are still willing to push games out for polish. I would much rather have a functioning game that has limited bugs than some rushed out piece of garbage.

Well, I was looking to take one early year, one mid year, and one late year vacation week. April is much later than I'd like for the first, and I could use a good stress release after my hellish 2019.

I may do the exact opposite thanks to this news and make it a February vacation.

i have been enjoying the 6 or 7th replay of FFX and never really liked FFVII.Cyberpunk not on my radar at all,i see the cheap gimmick that game is.
i am sure SE won't need our money, they will sell a lot of this game when it is done because it appears to be the all time favorite among gamer's,not mine though. The characters/personalities and story in FFX is a bazillion times better than FF7.I don't think i have even got 1/2 way through FF7 on my may tries, the game is imo not really that good.

Matter of fact,i would endorse FF3/5 way before 7 or even 8/9 are better.

Same here. My vacation resets in April and I don't usually go about using my very limited time early in the year like that. Was going to use (or lose) the rest of my days this year for this but alas - it was not to be. Still, we should be happy they're putting in the extra effort. It's single player anyway so maybe time off isn't all that necessary since we'll be waiting plenty of time for the next entry.

Be sure to plan your play time after the release and AFTER the bug fixes/patches. Why take time off to play when you can't even play?

I've asked myself that way too many damn times...and I'm sure I'll ask it again when I get stupefied by hope.

    Gut Out!

    What, me worry?

    Interesting point of view!

I played FFX for the first time last year (the remaster on PC) and didn't enjoy it much at all. I found half the characters really irritating, the storyline bland and generic, the actual design of the game was extremely linear and the combat pretty boring. The twist with the main guy (I'm a dream??!) was unexpected but then had no bearing on the gameplay.

I did enjoy being able to swop characters in and out of my group during combat, that was definitely an improvement on previous entries. However, once I figured out how XP was shared (or, wasn't shared more to the point), it then just became a bit of a drag ensuring every char got at least one hit in per encounter.

I also enjoyed the progression mechanics, whilst it was still very linear you could at least make a few decisions along the way that had significant impact on the toons. For example, I sent Kimari down the thief route rather than straight combat, which turned him into an interesting support character (like my captain from lotro).

My main disappointment with FFX though was that 50% of my time was spent watching cut scenes. It made it feel like I was just in some extended, interactive movie for 35 hours before the "real" game could begin. I absolutely fucking hate that style of game design, it drives me nuts. Story is not gameplay, so any time spent doing nothing but watching a story is a waste of time. It was only when I got towards the end of the story that the game opened up and I could start the typical JRPG gameplay of properly progressing my character, exploring the world at my leisure and stuff.

Thats not unique to FFX though, FF13 was the same way (20-30 hours of linear storymode shite before the game opened up and gave you something interesting to do).

Even FF7 was a bit like that: the first disk was split 50/50 between playing it and watching it. However, the first disk was only ~6 hours long and disk 2 onwards had a better ratio.

FF7, to me, is still one of the best games ever made. The story is still relatively generic but a cut above the usual (I don't rate any story in any game though, so this is high praise from me!). But, it's the gameplay mechanics that I loved. The actual combat was great, so much deeper than the majority of RPGs out there. That said, with age and experience comes the understanding that FF7 was too easy. It was perfect difficulty for me when it released and I was a kid, but it is too easy as an adult and when it gets easy, it gets boring. I also liked the progression mechanics (materia leveling up) simply because the progression wasn't restricted to a specific character. I liked that I could make cloud a healer, or mage, or physical attacker, depending on the materia I equipped him with. Made the game so much more flexible in comparison to its successors.

Now, with that said, I don't really care about this remake. I've watched some of the videos, read the dev blogs, and it sounds like a bungled cash grab. They've made too many changes to the mechanics for it to appeal to the original fans like me (specifically, the shitty action combat they've dumped into the remake), plus the episodic release of the remake just puts me off.

However, the remake could be a way to introduce younger kids to the story of FF7.

Once all the episodes have been released and I can buy the full game for £40 or less, I'll probs give it a go.

They will release on Xbox and PC as soon as they have ported it for the simple reason you can't micro transaction with Playstation as easily. It will also help sell people on 2 copies of the game.
