How Did You Get Here?

This morning I had an interesting predicament.  I was looking through the forums as I often do, when I stopped on an article about old games.  I thought back to over a decade ago when I joined these forums, and attempted to remember what it was that brought me to this site. I can't remember what it was that brought me here! 

Many years later I'm still here, obviously, but I would get a kick out of the internet search that brought me to this site.

Do any of you remember what it was that brought you to mmorpg.com?

    What brought me here was simple: the lack of official forums for most MMOs, I was tired of VN boards and reddit hadn't been invented yet. Now it's just habit :)

    I joined in 2004 when I was playing SWG. Think I was looking for advice on templates and someone in my guild pointed me at this website. However, despite joining in 2004, I didn't really start posting here until 2012/13 I think.

    Same here, only with EQ1.  I even lost the original Mendel name on this site due to changing email accounts so I couldn't recover (or change) my login password.

    Someone mentioned an MMO that I had never heard of and I was curious if there were other MMOs I had never heard of, so I did a search and this site came up. That was in 2009.

    As a reader I was an often visitor prior to that too, but if you're asking about the actual register/posting, for me it was 2010, posting a shot of the Shire :) 
    (I believe it was a LotRO screenshot contest around the anniversary...)

    Interesting, 2012... now I wonder how I registered 2 years before the first post...

    I had been reading this site for years, often just checking up on MMO's, and the like, seeing what was out there.

    As for the forums, well truth be told, originally only joined the forums to get some free stuff for Trove.

    I think I was looking into Age of Conan, and stumbled upon this site, or may've been earlier than that even, not sure.

    I was looking up online games many years ago. And I love single player games but I wanted more social interaction. So my searches brought me here.

    I was playing lineage 2 and did a search for news and found this site. I then was curious about other mmorpg's so just stayed. 

    And, since most of my friends don't play video games, it was refreshing to actually have people who would discuss video games.

    I think this was the same for me. Had to have been L2 or WoW news and I came here and saw people talking about MMORPG's and just joined in and didn't leave.

    @op: I am here since 2004 and it was the only reliable source of mmorpg info. Not anymore.

    If ARK Is mmorpg i dont consider this website my primary mmo info.

    This isn't even my true form.  I had another account prior to this one.  But I think I came here after being on VN and SWG.

    I first came here circa 2004 under another account name (whose password I have forgotten, and that is connected to a cancelled e-mail). It was to promote a SWG guild I was in. I guess I made another account and stuck around - for 15 years lol.

    After several years of playing EQ Iwanted to see what other mmos there were. Been going in and out ever since.

    Went all the way back to see my first comment from 2010 (thread was about Age of Conan and how the game was best levels 1-20): 
    "Absolutely. My gf and I drop WoW to try every new MMO we can, and we did for AoC. We got so hyped while playing the beta, we pre-ordered collector's editions and couldn't wait to play the game. And it was pretty great until level 35, then we looked at each other and said, "Dammnit, back to WoW."

    Mind you, WoW is a fantastic game, but we've been tired of it for many years already."


    Yeah, at the time we were constantly trying each new MMO, but we always went back to WoW. And tbh, if Shadowlands looks good and Diablo 4 puts diablo back on track we might deign to forgive Blizzard their shitty 2019 BS and the fail that is BfA.

    Early on in my MMORPG "career" I normally frequented popular fansites for L1, L2, and Shadowbane, VNBoards for DAOC natch.

    WOW was the first game which I spent most of my time on official forums, but around 2005 I typed MMORPG in Google and it brought me here.

    I created my first account then, but forgot my PW and lost access to the email. 

    In early 2006 I created a 2nd account which my primary email address is still tied to but again, forgot the password didn't bother to recover. (Was too busy raiding in WOW)

    In Sep 2006, with BC on the near horizon, my time in WOW was coming to an end so I created this account, finally wrote down the darn password and have stuck with it to this day.

    Oh! HEEEeeeere! :lol:

    I was getting frustrated with EQ. It was around 2004 or 5. Back then, I'd surf the net by just typing words".com" for giggles. This was before Google, mind you. I think Webcrawler or Yahoo may have been my search engine of choice.

    Anyway, looking for more MMORPGs like EQ, I just typed in Netscape's address bar "MMORPG.com" and found myself here. I lurked awhile to see what the site was all about. When I had something to say (go figure!), I created my account :)

    Just think, I might never have made it here :)

    Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
